  1. Joe, I run OS 9.1 on a G4 and plot to an HP230 (old, found on ebay). I use Microspot Graphic Pack over a small ethernet network. It works more or less flawlessly (although the initial set up was frustrating). Unfornately there is no OS X support in the works for my older plotter, so until it dies I'll need to stay w. OS 9 or run in classic mode to print. PLC

  2. This may or may not be of any help, but sometimes I will send more than one file to ACAD people. For example, if my structural engineer needs my floor framing plan and my roof framing plan I will export each saved sheet separately and then send each to the engineer. That way they can overlay their stuff on each relevant plan. PLC

  3. A couple things come to mind: 1) Occasionally I find that I need to re-create a LINK (ie: select, unlock, delete and rebuild) for new layer info to be accurate. I'm not sure why. 2) Many times you will find walls or roof objects that have a "z" setting different from the layer which they are in. Check the OI palette. 3) Make sure that when you are viewing LINKS, only the active layer is visible. You may looking at some data twice. I hope this helps! PLC

  4. Carl, if I understand your question correctly, here is how to modify a saved sheet (which is just a custom layer/class visibility): Go to the SAVED SHEETS button at the bottom of your screen and select EDIT SHEETS. Then select the sheet you would like to edit. A window will open which lets you make visible (or not) any layer or class you wish, etc. I hope this is what you needed :-) PLC

  5. I know. I really liked 8.5.2! And 9 was really buggy until this latest release. Ultimately I've come to the realization that if I'm gonna use a computer I'm gonna have to budget $$$ for software (and hardware) upgrades. I guess I'm lucky to have (most of my) clients who understand that all this high-tech hoo-ha has value. When I email them a 360? rotating "movie" of their design (as a model) they get it! PLC

  6. Joe, I've been there! One way to tackle it is to use the 3D reshape tool to create a new vertex in the wall below the gable, effectively changing the formerly rectangular wall into a five sided gable end wall. Try it and let us know if it works. PLC

  7. What would explain the following behavior: All of my 9.5.1 files are giant sized, one, which isn't even anything more than a two story textured model, with a couple sections and elev's generated from the model is a whopping 37.3 MB's. When I "drop stuff" this file it takes a REALLY long time, but I end up with a tidy little 2.4 MB file. Much more manageable. My question is, first, why are the files so big, second if they can be compressed to less than a 10th of their original size what makes up the rest of the data, AND why can't VW's manage it's own files, automatically, in the same fashion? Wouldn't this be an elegant little thing? PLC Mac G4 450 DP/OS 9.1/VWALw/R 9.5.1

  8. Robert,

I downloaded your CLONE PIO from VectorDepot but cannot seem to figure out exactly how to use it. I've put it in my workspace in a tool palette (is that right?) and would love a brief "how-to". Thanks in advance.

(PS I finally took time to do the VWA CD tutorial and was very impressed. I learned a bunch of new tricks!) smile.gif" border="0

  9. Fred, G-window is not my creation. I was simply passing the info along. I think if you go to the DEPOT you will find the author's name and email and you can ask him about doors. Also, even though I haven't tried it yet, it is theoretically easy to create your own PIO's! PLC

  10. Fred, here's what I would do: I would make a set of 2D elevation view window symbols. You can also try the VECTOR DEPOT where there is a PIO called G-WINDOWS which will basically draw a 2D window for you and allows you to modify elements in an OI palette. PLC

  11. Raymond, You are probably already aware of this, but in the new version you can scroll by using the arrow keys WHILE you are drawing or resizing an object. I too was bothered by the different scrolling behavior but have now grown very accustomed to using the arrow keys. PLC

  12. Joe, sounds like you need a new boss! About 18 years ago, when my twin daughters were born I decided to "strike out on my own", first as a builder, then as a designer/builder, and now exclusively as a designer. Don't know what the market is where you are, but if you've got the itch you can probably make a go of it. Then you can go Kayaking more!!! Take care, PLC

  13. Joe, If you can, go to one of Janis Kent's seminars (improbability.com). The third day is all about 3D. But don't miss out on the first two days. I thought I knew it all and was very amazed at how much I learned. I'm not sure where you are located, but there is also probably a trainer near you (go to the Nemetschek main page and navigate from there). Once you get over the "learning hump" I think you'll find VW's an amazingly powerful, and relatively easy to use 3D/2D hybrid program. BTW, Nemetschek also has training seminars and although I've never attended I've heard only good things! PLC

  14. There is a way: create (or use) a layer that will only be visible in 2D (plan) views and in it put all the graphic stuff you need to show in plan, but do not want in your models. I have my own layer naming protocol so I do not use the VWA layer naming, but I'll bet there's already a layer in there (for text, or notes, or whatever?) that would work. BTW, I agree that the stair PIO need some real work, as do some of the others, but I like to try to visualize the glass as half full...PLC

  15. As a Mac user I have been able to easily create hysterically complicated roofs from some very strange polygons. There are many times however when the tool to use is "create roof face". In many ways this will allow you more control and also the ability to edit each roof surface should the need arise... PLC

  16. Hey Joe (what you doin' with that...). Okay. So my (admittedley very limited) understanding of physics says that everything in the universe is made of the same stuff. So that changing one type of wave (visual) into another (auditory) should be easy (theorectically). The natural extension of all this is that someday maybe we will travel through cable or through the air (like beam me up) to get from one place to another. It's exciting to consider, but only as a minor distraction. PLC
