new sheet layers will take their page layout print setup etc from the current setting (from the file menu) so if that is not at 0,0 then the new sheet won't be either

generally I always (even on design layers) try to leave the page at the origin, or at least put it back there after a temporary print (same as leave the scale at 100%, otherwise throws out saved views etc - better to have a temporary sheet layer for test prints that you throw viewports onto and change the scale etc there)

it always pays to check the print setup and the print area after creating a sheet - make sure print area is on One Page

double click on the move page tool, it will recentre the sheet

just open up the layer dialog box, check it as grey, and then it shows but can't be snapped - at least in VW 11.5

is it possible to lock an object at the back?

I know you can send it to the back, and then lock it, but any new objects then sent to the back end up behind it.

I'd like to be able to lock an object so it was permanently at the back so when new objects are created that need to be behind everything else except the back one they can be sent there without disappearing.

Presently i can have to go thru several objects sending them to the back to get the right order.

I know I can send backward, but with many objects created in the meantime it can take ages to get to the right position.

I'm a frayed knot. Tried all that first.

all the symbols and the classes they were created in have disappeared from a drawing. the classes do not show up in the main list, and the symbols don't show up in the resource browser, yet when you try to bring in one of the missing symbols from the symbol file it asks to rename the class and to rename the symbol, because they must still be in the drawing. And if I go into claasses and try to create a new class with the same name as one of the missing ones I get the message that the name is already in use

Any ideas how to restore them?

I've found that the problem was that the pad polygon was not rectilinear. I assumed any shaped polygon would work, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The manual just says they need to br "planar", which I take to mean having no depth.

But triangular shapes for example don't seem to work.

I'm trying to modify a sloping site, but all I get from my pad is a narrow band that is cut out along the perimeter of the pad, and in the middle the existing site pokes up. I've got the existing model switched off (BTW, any simple way to do this? I've put it on a class that is turned off, but is there another way to do this?)

The end result looks like a trench dug along the edges and back of the pad where it is below ground level.

[odd menu icons]

I have odd icons showing up in the Text - Style menu, so when I choose for example bold I instead get the tool that the icon represents.

This has happened before in the Window menu, so instead of switching drawings the tool referenced by the stray icon is activated.

Changing workspaces just changes the icon and the tool, doesn't remove the it.

Any ideas?

I've had the following problem occur a couple of times now - I go to choose a saved view and instantly VW shuts down - not the long slow shut down it normally takes, it just disappears. When I restart it, all the pallettes have lost their position and are all bunched in the top left corner on top of each other (still the same Workspace) so I have to re-configure the screen.

Anyone else seen this / any ideas on prevention

I kept having a similar problem opening files with odd text flipping all the time, then I noticed this had been turned off

I've found Duplicate/Multiple and Move by Katerina Panagiotakis free at Vectordepot better than Pt2Pt

for 9.0 but work fine in 11.5.1

[VW11.5: Globally change Class Visibility in Saved Views]

open up classes, highlight the class (nonplot in this case) and then click on the Saved Views button. You can then choose all the saved views by selecting the first, holding down shift and selecting the last (or holding down ctrl and individually picking them), then choose the visibility.

[Problem with class visibility in viewports]

I agree with dgruber, I much preferred the old system, where you didn't have to create multiple note and dimension classes.

All pre 11.5 drawings now come out with their viewports missing info or not wanted info appearing.

In fact this and coupled with the crashing problems (though this seems to have been solved with the patch and a video driver update) means I haven't updated our other machines to 11.5.

If I do, i think we'll keep one running 11 just to be able to open older files properly. And change the attributes on the files to read only so they don't get accidently "corrupted" by 11.5.
