  1. Hello - I am trying to come up with a U-Shaped cantilevered staircase in the below configuration but I want to avoid the stair being in front of the window. Is there a quick way of determining the geometry without having to play around with the settings several times over? Model attached. Note the final level (not shown in screenshot) is including the 'SLABS' classes - model attached if anyone wants to play around.2024-04_Wick House_MODEL.vwx 2024-04_Wick House_MODEL.vwx
  2. Thanks to all for your comments. I've started using @Tom W.'s approach of using the wall tool, trying to simplify things a little. See attached model (Design Layer (NEW GF PLAN - WALL TOOL)). I have created the first set of windows by essentially tracing a to scale elevation (Original Plans PDF) and have duplicated these across the bay window by saving the window as a style. Given the house has lots of different sized windows, but similar/same 'style' (e.g. mullions and transoms, Georgian sash), is this the best way to do this? There must be a better way for me to be able to resize each window individually? 2024-04_Wick House_MODEL.vwx
  3. @shorterThanks. How would you approach this then? Creating polygons and then individually modelling Georgian sash windows and resizing based on the existing aperture? In my case, the 3D model doesn't need to be perfect. I will be using it more to take viewports of specific perspectives that I will then 'render' in Photoshop. This said, the floor plan itself needs to be perfect and reflect the reality of the house. I don't want separate 2D / 3D models. I want one model that I can toggle between 3D and 2D (Floor Plans / Elevations).
  4. Thanks Tom. I'm struggling with using the wall tool because I go around the perimeter. Then I select each 'segment' and input the thickness, but then that thickness goes beyond perimeter line, i.e. from the central line the wall gets thicker 50% either side, rather than just 100% on the inner boundary line. Not sure if that makes sense. What am I doing wrong? Agreed, not the easiest project but hopefully if I get one floor sorted I'll be able to duplicate most of the work. Thanks
  5. Hi there, I am needing some help with a project I am working on. I am struggling to know how to 3D model the attached building. This floor plan shown originates from an architects' plans which I have re-traced. Because of the 'trickiness' and complexity of the building (lots of indentations etc) I thought to initially extrude polygons in order to create walls etc, but given the number of windows in the house / potential future level changes I thought it might be better to use the wall tool and then insert Georgian sash windows. What would be the approach you would take? I have tried to use the wall tool but when it comes to setting different wall widths for each section I am having a nightmare. Any advice would be more than appreciated. Attaching model if anybody needs to see it / show anything in particular. Thanks! 2024-04_Wick House_MODEL.vwx
  6. All - thank you so much. very much appreciated.
  7. I'm trying to curve an extruded panel around the corner of a bar - How am I best to proceed with this? 2024-03_D5 Model.vwx

    Thank you so much all

    Curve

I have created custom windows using a combination of solids but now I am needing to 'curve' the windows around the top of a wall. I am not sure whether creating the custom windows this way was the best way forward, but I was struggling to achieve the look I required using the 3D windows settings. also attaching the model itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. p.s Relatively new to VW! 2024-03_D5 Model.vwx
  10. Hello, I am struggling to figure out how I will design a steel framed (e.g. Crittall) structure such as a conservatory or green house. Does anybody have any tips, or steps that they would take themselves. I am attaching a reference image (note the glazed 'walls' and roof). Many thanks.
  11. Hello, I have created an intricate flooring design using a combination of 2D shapes and 'filling' these with colour. When I set a viewport, the 2D shapes lose their colour, whilst 3D objects have retained their colour. I have checked the document preferences and 'black and white only' is unchecked. What am I doing wrong? See images of Design Layer vs Sheet Layer (View Port). Please help! Relatively fresh to VW and I would ideally like to take this viewport, export it, and then trace overlay in Procreate to render it. Thanks.
