    Quad core i7 - 3,4 GHz (6700)

    32 GB ram

    Radeon RX 580

expected worse, but time to upgrade anyway

pretty much same as my build/times - same cpu but Vega 56 and slightly less memory (24) - upgrade - only if you use for rendering I guess - rest of my system works fine with VW drawing/modelling.

  2. Thanks for this - very interesting. I’d recently worked out spec wise with geek benchmarks that the new mini m2 max was at least >2x faster than my current hackintosh (i7 6700 24gb vega56 8gb) which is a rule I try and stick to (upgrades need to be x2 better!🤣).

my test renders taken 31m…but rendering in vw is pretty irrelevant nowadays for me due to twinmotion. (Only do sketch B&W shaded or paper white renders with lines in vw since TM - or maybe its because VW is so slow at it on MY machine.)

but based on this table - m2 pro mini may just be what I need and looks to be a great balance £/performance - I only do private residential extensions (vw 3d/bim) and exports to twinmotion 3ds. (So nothing too big really (<400mb VW files)). M2 pro with 32gb (is therefore similar memory total to what I currently have too.)

only thing I’m weary about is the lack of native gpu raytracing for twinmotion (I’m currently doing final rendering on a rtx3700/amd 32gb Lenovo  laptop I bought for this specifically along with VR twinmotion at clients homes)…just weary of buying this and typical Apple making that only available to the newer M3/4....

maybe I should just take the plunge....£400 markup for 16GB!! maybe ill just get a used Studio M1 max then!😡

  3. They normally post snippets of new things through august.

im in a similar position, used VW for 22 years - not really sure whether I really need to keep paying the yearly subs - last year I did begrudgingly as I was enticed by the new redshift rendering and I thought door and window reveal/ closures were finally sorted (which it wasn’t).

vw 2022 crashed so often on my hackintosh I’ve not really used it for any major work.

so this year - I’m not planning on paying anymore - I’ll stick with 21/22 for the foreseeable future and save some cash. Sick and tired of being VW beta tester.

    The other way round.

Of course the PC can run Windows natively.

It is more that the Hackintosh macOS is kind of a hacked Apple OS running via Bootcamp.

MacOS isn’t really off at anytime - it’s just easyer to have another pc running /at same time. (dual booting- I don’t think I’ve used windows on my hackintosh in over 2 years)

mark - yes, fact that Apple restrict app updates to their os is annoying. (Mainly as I always end up loosing compatibility between versions eg macOS vs iOS/iPad - which tends to be the reason I have to upgrade macOS each year over summer holidays)

kvm for laptop and desktop - (to just use same mouse and keyboard) - I use an app called ‘Barrier’, as for monitor input switching, I’m not sure - putting one device into sleep may switch the connection between on devices if monitor set to auto perhaps?

  5. Just read through this entire post in a hope of knowing what m1 to be looking to get to replace my hackintosh…

….think I’ll just keep on using it for now! Just sounds like a big mess. I have very little faith in VW sorting out memory issues just like any other ongoing issues unfortunately. If I though I could keep working on VW2021 for next 6 years I might just cancel my VSS.🤣🤣

big sur, 24gb, Vega 56 with Vw2021 is working fine (2022 on the other hand - a load of beachballing and crashing to login screen multiple times a day)

Don’t see Apple sorting out retracing in TM anytime soon - and with lack of oculus vr compatibility on MacOS, I just bought a lenovo 3070 legion 7 and laptop with 2tb ssd and 32gb just to do TM 2022 raytracing and VR walkabouts with clients.

  6. They look great!👍🏻🍻 - unfortunately they won’t load as it states ‘illegal VW copy’  when trying to open on my legal VW…🤬  VW SHOULD BE GIVING YOU A FREE TRIAL FOR ADDING DECENT MODELS TO THEIR LIBRARIES!

    - why VW thinks stopping paid users from being able to use these types of files is beyond me!! - just making more work for the users who actually pay their wages!!!

will have to wait until I can boot into an old Mac OS which works with my ‘VW file validator’ app

  7. Yes, saw this posted earlier today…

ive been contemplating upgrading my hackintosh all day ( 11.3 from 10.15)….but then it’ sounds like Redshift is a seperate app unlike renderworks - so maybe I don’t bother and stick with twinmotion for the amount of 3d vis I have to do as a architect…

would save me having to work out how to move to opencore….

@neal-2002You can have a good idea of what's coming in Vectorworks 2022 by visiting our current public roadmap. You can see the Scheduled, In Development, and Active Research upcoming changes.

    I hope this helps. - Juan P.

Well if redshift and door/window reveal inner leaf wrap is in 2022 that’s fine - otherwise I think I’ll just hold off the vss - I ain’t in no rush to update/become a beta tester until at least sp3/4…

The first one will be at the end of August.

Hmm, so will have a day to decide if I should bother with continuing with VSS then….

.won’t be paying out any money without knowing what’s coming In This this years update…

  10. Anyone else had issues with part of VSS/Library furniture being missing?? had it prev with sofa/cushions and now the stool.

The has happened a couple of times to me now - latest was today when imported a vectorworks stool into my model - see attached (all classes apart from ceiling are on). And the item is above the ffl level.

  11. Just used the data smith export today and models are definitely importing better into Twinmotion - so thanks!

One big issue im finding -

Missing elements in my model - they are there, but material in Twinmotion is set to transparent and opacity of Zero..

It appears to be ALL materials in vectorworks which have Transparency set to 'plain', (even with opacity set to 100%) - but for some reason they're importing into twin motion at 0% opacity - Its only happening with items ive imported from eg 3dwarehouse which generally have these settings im finding.
