The screen flicker problem reported to NNA some 2 years ago and still not fixed in 2009 and its recent update. Whilst recognised by NNA as a bug which flickers the screen in XP and Vista they forgot to fix it in 2009 and say to now fix it would break the system.
The temporary solution, which is not fully successful, is to keep the object info pallet fully open at all times.
As said previously, NNA should be concentrating on getting the basics right before advancing the system every year. This is a health and safety issue, affecting those with epilepsy, and should not be sold without that warning. Up to now I have strongly supported Vectorworks but not now as I am very disappointed that a problem identified over 2 years ago has still not been fixed, we were mis sold 2008 by NNA as they claimed it had resolved the problem, have not been kept up to date with investigations and, to be frank, do not believe that such a bug would break the system, especially as the system goes through some fundamental changes each year.

Not sure what extras you got on the UK version 2008 as we do not have anything to compare it with, but it includes uk metric resources such as armitage shanks, ideal standard, jeld wen, British standard doors, etc - not much really, especially when compared to the extras you get in say NZ.
Also the Engish is not even English but American - so you have to be carful with those zzzzzzzzz!

From the latest announcement it seems that there is a lot of localised versions of 2009 in Europe but not in the UK?
Also can 2009 open / convert all older versions of VWs?

Well my card has settings for autocad, archicad, etc - but not vectorworks.

What is the best graphics card for VW?
Got a 250w 256mb ATI Fire GL V7200 garaphics card at the mo - is that good?
Is there better / more compatible?
Is there any VW links to advice?
Thinking of the card on a new Dell pc we are getting.

But NNA and CU do NOT provide customers with bugs / faults. I get plenty of emails saying how good VW is, etc but nothing about the bugs. There should be link in the dispatch email we all get several times a year. Perhaps its because the list would be too long!
Also I have informed CU about the flicker bug a long time ago and they just referred it to NNA.

If there are errors or bugs, which may cause inaccurate information or time wasting, but can not be fixed then NNA has a responsibility of telling its customers and suggesting possible work arounds until the problem is solved.

The area calculation tool with curves and arcs was demonstrated in a VW 2009 promotion I went to - it was said that it speeds up the area calculation process, etc. Which I thought great but whilst they said how fast and efficient it was they did not say it was inaccurate.
As an architect if I make mistakes then I get sued.
There is no point delivering new tools if they do not work and you have not fixed old tools / bugs.
You might be 'buying work in progress' but they never say that at demos or on the box. If that is the case then the updates / corrections should be free and a new version not released until they have sorted out the one they have sold you or give you the new version for free.

My bug is my bug is not fixed in 2009 - NNA have confirmed it. I want it fixed in 2008. I bought 2008 as the bug was suppose to have been fixed in 2008 but it was not and has been forgotton to be fixed in 2009.

I have a bug for years, given a high priority to fix by NNA, and they have forgotton to fix it.

We have been sitting here quietly for a while [which is rare for me] waiting for a 2008 update to rectify the screen flicker bug. This was reported well over a year ago, strong debate was held here and files sent to NNA. The screen flicked badly and we were failing health and safty rules in the UK, especially as an employee has eplipesy. NNA advised 2008 would resolve the problem so we update all pcs - but it did not resolve it. NNA eventually recognised the problem and the temporary work around solution suggested was to keep you object info pallette open until the next bug update sorted it out. This was fine in the short term but it does take a lot of the screen up and we can not minimise or have auto hide without the flicker. The bug was given high priority but nothing has been done about it and I find out yesterday that it was forgotton in 2009!
I suggest an urgent 2008 update is issued to resolve this problem.
We are certainly not paying out more money for 2009 upgrades to all our pcs unless this basic bug is fixed in 2008.
Sorry to sound so annoyed but I am annoyed!!

Sorry been a way a while, sitting quietly [which is unusual for me] and watching, but this woke me up.
Sounds good, but not sure what it all means, however at the end of the day it depends how much it will all cost. We were planning to stick with 2008 for a long while but whilst this sounds good if it means expensive licences and new pcs it will put VW out of reach

Given up on the batt insulation tool as it is not a hatch and can only be used in large scale details. Just use the standard check insulation hatch that comes with VW even though it is not the recognise symbol for insulation.

I would like to add a few points:
1. There is no UK produced user manuel.
2. The manual dics that came with the upgrades do not work [as reported previously]
3. The help link is not up to date.
4. Both manuals and the help link are poorly written and not user friendly - why do you think most users come here first for advice?
5. The movies are great and I think should be expanded.
6. Training is most probably the best way of learning and NNA, like other businesses, offer this for free by trainers who get involved on the basis that users will appoint them for further training.
If I were NNA, a once every 6 months ad in BD [uK architect's mag] does not sale the product to new users but tours with demos and free training, backed up by good, easy to understand help links and movies does.

That still takes up a 1/4 of my screen and normally I am running several programmes at once and so takes up more space as the window is reduced. I can not work with such a reduced window and live with the flashing which is a real pain.
NNA please do not treat this as a minor promblem and sort it out ASAP.

The bug is to do with the window and door objects which we find blink or flash as well, especially the first time on opening the file and first opening of a window or door.

Also they should follow standard architectural drawing conventions.
For us in th uk that would be in compliance with bs1192.
For instance, why are door sizes not structural opening sizes rather than leaf sizes and windows the reverse?

Had the same problem.
Mkae sure you have all the old versions of VW deleted. For some reson upgrading VW does not override or get rid of preious versions.
The object ino palette has to be docked and kept open fully. This is a real pain and it takes up half you screen area but until NNA sort out the glitch this is the only option.

Found them now!
Still none on walk throughs or fly overs and creating a movie though.
Also it seems, from our initial research, that they relay on a 3D layer model and do not work in vps. Now I know that its perhaps not the correct way of doing things but up to now we have not felt the need for a 3D layer model and just create our different 3D views in the vps.

Unfortunately NNA are not too concerned about it - if they were they would have fixed it by now - over 2 years is a long time. The more that report this bug the more NNA will take notice and hopefully solve it. And it is a VW bug - NNA have acknoledged this - its not your hardware.
We could get more screens but to be far we would have to buy an extra one for all 5 people - who already have big screens - they do not have enough desk space and at the moment I can not afford to spend out to cover something NNA have forgotton to fix.
NNA do not seem concerned about their moral obligation and legalality of the health and safety issue.
