  1. Classed components is great. However if the components are turned off (ie you placing only studs without the finish materials) it is difficult to align the component your working with the visible component from say a wall below.

In general this make it difficult to layout with the visible components since your always having to work with the overall thickness of the wall, not what is visible.

My WISH is that you could layout the walls, using the alignment tool with which ever component is actively visible.

  2. 2008 Vectorworks I am placing doors in walls and they keep showing a double line in the wall. The threshold option is deselected and I can't seem to find any other option in the settings to turn this off. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  3. NNA position is pathetic, and is a lame manipulation to get people to upgrade. As a firm we are very disappointed with NNA position. Upgrading an entire firm is not a cheap or easy process, and NNA should show the same loyalty that its customer's show to it, by supporting leopard.

  4. I was just at BIM world looking at all the great BIM products out there. Will IFC objects be able to be imported into Vectorworks as editable objects? For instance doors from a particular manuf. - will they be able to be opened at a certain percentage or will they be just static objects?

Recognizing that more and more products will probably be produced as either Revit BIM objects or IFC BIM objects, and not Vectorworks BIM objects, I hope that Vectorworks develops good Interoperability for these objects. I noticed that Vectorworks has adopted IFC standards, just not sure how editable they will be.

  5. I was just at a architectural conference and Revit was on display.

The key feature they were showing off was their dynamic / multiple views of the model. For instance you could see the plan and the elevation at the same time. If you modified a window in plan you immediately saw what it looked like in a elevation view. It was very cool.

I WISH Vectorworks had this function. Is there some fundamental tech./ design reason that Vectorworks can't do this?

  6. I wish VW could have a split screen mode where you can have a sheet view, and a model(design layer) up simultaneously. AutoCad provides this through dynamic viewports, and the ability to have multiple views of an model up simultaneously.

Currently VW has only static views of a model. Whereas with Dynamic views, you could manipulate your model and see the results in a sheet's viewport dynamically-instantly.

This would significantly help design in plan and elevations concurrently.

Interested to know if VW has anything like this in the works.

  7. I am having the same problem! There seems no way to adjust the ceiling grid relative to a start point - that is at least clear.

There is dialog box with starting x and y but it not clear how this works and its not mentioned in the manual.

If I am missing something please advise. I am assuming that VW has not address this issue by the lack of response to the previous message.

  8. We are working on an apartment project and would like to workgroup reference unit plans into an overall building plan. Unfortnately it seems that we can only workgroup reference the unit plan once. If we unlock it can copy it multiple times then when we open and close or update the workgroup reference we are left with only one copy of the new unit plan - Very frustrating.

As an old AutoCad user we could make multiple copies of xrefs which were then ALL automatic updated from the referenced files.

Any help on making multiple copies of a workgroup reference that are dynamic would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks.
