  1. Hi Everyone,

I've watched a lots of tutorilas about VWX site modeling, but when it comes to real work it never seems to be so easy. Now I'm working on a projekt where I have several pools in the middle of a curved form hardscape. Around the pools it should be flat, and towards the edges slight downward slope. Beside the hardscape there's a curved grass covered slope with different downward % on each part of it.

    Hardscape:

First I wanted the site model to align to my hardscape so I used hardscape surface modifiers: stakes on  some points of it (just like in the picture I attached). In 3D view some parts of the hardscape were on the rigth height, some stayed on zero.

Then I tried to use grades to draw the needed heights and slopes in the middle of the hardscape.  In 3D everything stayed on zero except that particular line where the grades are.

Pad modifier (with texture bed hardscape setting) gave me the best result, but there I could only set 2 different slopes, which doesnt give the exact result what I need.

Is there a good solution for that?

    Grassy slope:

I used a 3D polyline to represent the upper and lower edges, and it works, but I had to set each vertex height manually. Is it the right way to do it? Or is there a  better one?

    Thank you

  2. Hi,

I'm a totally new vectorworks user, until now I've been using allplan. I have couple of questions regarding site modeling. Sorry for my english!

    1.

I spent couple days to figure out how to correct the site model if it doesn't generates the correct slope (contours) form.

I have site survey with enough data, but VW doesn't draw a straight slope edge where it should be, but a zigzag. In allplan I could draw a line which showed where I want to put the edge between the slope and the flat surface.

I tried to edit the existing contour lines but it takes hours to correct them one by one.

I tried to use the grade tool, which worked quite well, but in a VW video the instructor told that we shouldn't use site modifiers for the existing site.

So whats the best way  I can  correct the slope edges on the existing site model?

    2.

Is there a way I can modify the x and y coordinates of the site model points? In scupting mode I could change only the Z.

Is there a way to make the triangles and the verticies of the site model visible in top view?

    3.

Sometimes I have to work with more earthworks phases:  existing site- phase1- phase2- phase3-...

I thought I'll make separate layers with surface modifiers for the different phases .

But how can I create drawings and calculations for the earthwork between 1nd and 2rd phase? How can I tell VW that  the phase1 should be the existing site (which one was the proposed before) instead of the original existing?

Should I create a snapshot for each phase? Is it for that purpose?

    4.

I was noticed that there are some site modifier conflicts, but I couldn't find the yellow rectangles in the drawing. How can that happen?

    Thank you for your help!

would you consider the wall tool for an edge or border, such as metal or wood headers ?  you can get lengths to the edging in a worksheet - putting the border on a separate class allows you to control the graphic appearance and easily manage its visibility - this sounds like a lot of extra work, but provides control and management -

    Thank you, I'll try this.

  4. I want to draw different kind of pavement borders which ones can be also listed (reported) at the end (name/type and length). The hardscape border isn't good for that, because I can't name them, can't list them, and sometimes there are different kind of edges around  the same surface not only one. Which tool would you recommend for this purpose?
