  1. working on a foundation. I have a 6" conc. wall 22" tall that forms the perimeter of a square building. I have a couple of openings on one side for overhead doors. The top of the conc. wall will be 6" above my floor slab. In plan view I want to be able to show the transition. How should I "cut away" or block out these openings. Much like inserting the doors in the wood portion of the wall. The wall gets blocked out at the door opening. Do I insert doors at these locations? So there would be repeat doors on top of each other. Seems like it would create a disaster somewhere. How do you veteran VW users do it?
  2. I don't use multiple spaces and I don't know what Expose is. It could be that my thumb is heavy on the space bar while depressing middle mouse button for panning. I'll see if i can make it happen on purpose.
  3. Relaunching finder does nothing. there must be some combination of keys to unlock this behavior. Twice already today. Of course when in a hurry! Not fun.
  4. maybe this is the issue i have with window sills. default global attributes & "use at creation". To be consistent one would opt for checking "use at creation" in class settings - yes? For other reasons one might leave this unchecked, attributes need to change in a given class or whatever. What about default global attributes? This is controlled via the Attributes Palette, correct? Hmm. I just made current a random class. "D-1", pen solid black, no fill, no hatch. Att. Palette all "by class". Inserted a window and the sill is yellow. I have no class in the entire file with a fill of yellow. How is this possible?
  5. when placing a window in a wall i prefer to have what appears to be the window sill in 2d plan view white or no-color, no fill. it seems random but sometimes this works just as i hoped, many times the sill changes to a fill of any color. i check my current settings - no fill. check class settings, no fill. so obviously what everyone in the construction industry views as a window sill must be called something else by VW engineers. HOW do I prevent the sill from filling? Or must it simply be filled as part of some other unexplained function of VW?
  6. thanks, I wound up just turning it off in preferences. too bad it is not an option in the walls dialog. seems useful to me, but maybe others display demo walls differently. different layer ?
  7. I am working on a reno/addition and need to show demo walls. I like to use a dashed line to indicate the demo items. I have a section of wall to be removed and have created a custom wall as desired. But I place it, it wants to auto-join to existing walls to remain and I don't think I want it to be joined to them. How do I "un-join" the wall?
  8. I think there is a keystroke involved maybe at same time I click the mouse. Just wish I could undo instead of having to completely quite VW and restart to resolve it. I have no bluetooth going.
  9. My problem was that I somehow was not inserting the door into a wall. What complicated things is that I have foolishly placed a line as a reference for the location of the opening since no other reference or inference point existing. When the mouse got close to the reference point (duh, I was clicking on it to set the point at which I wanted the door opening) but oh no can't do that. You have to set it then move it...I got it figured out!
  10. I often have trouble getting the jambs to show in 2d plan view so I usually give up and cut the wall to get openings. time consuming...frustrating. Currently working on a house. All classes are visible, all layers visible. Insert an opening and I get 2 little 'x's. One at each side of opening.
  11. thanks Tim for your kind response. What you described is how I had set things up and that is why I am surprised by the results. I will look at my text styles....I have used one with a white background before.
  12. So I obviously don't understand how VW works. I was just placing a dimension and the text around the dimension turned out shaded. (happens often) so i look at the attributes palette and see that I have 'fill style' set to by class. i look at the current class and at dimension class both have 'fill' = none. So there must be some other location where one controls the fill of object that I am unaware of. Where else should I be looking to control the fill?
  13. I've asked this before...and I know it is a beginner / stupid question, but Where are the settings that control the color of the sill of the window? Notice one is white or no fill and the other light purple. The windows are inserted in wall, on first floor design layer, in windows class. Class settings are "no fill" line color black. The sills class which is not checked by the way has the following settings: Fill - none, line- solid, black. Why do I have to fiddle with the dang sill in every new VW file? Sometimes it is red sometimes gray...where is it controlled?
  14. So I changed to a different mouse. And the same behavior. How do you get rid of the data bar and restore the menu items without quitting VW??? I get rid of the data bar by going to the 'gear' and unchecking, but the menu items are still gray and I can't work.
  15. Hmm. I'm in the U.S. and I think the UK naming convention is more appropriate. I never used nor heard of "swing simple" to designate a single leaf door.... Glad you found the work around!
  16. If I turn the class of the viewport off the crop goes away and so does what was in the viewport. The tick box "crop visible" is unchecked. The viewport is in the "none" class. The line is a pale grey. On this particular sheet I have two viewports and only this one is the problem. I deleted the offending viewport and re-created. No border visible now.
  17. Jim, This is still happening. I played with the data bar & edit group but that really isn't the issue. It starts by seeing the hand from the pan command. If I esc then the data bar presents itself and menu items go grey. I can still draw if using only tool buttons. keyboard commands do not work, not even erase key. I have to completely quit VW and restart to restore functions. More info; it seems to happen when panning by way of the middle mouse button.
  18. sometimes my viewport border prints. I don't know how to make the rectangle from viewport crop invisible. it seems to have same settings as other viewports. ideas?
  19. Using this tool to add detail to a deck. It will only show full pieces of decking. Is there a way to cut or trim or slice or dice the material to suit?
  20. Hey, what happened to Tekton and Garamond fonts? Is there any new hand style fonts that are decent?
  21. Similar question; I have a project that the building plans are one scale but I need to add details at of course a different scale. I like to keep all in one file for ease of printing /referencing etc. Is it normal/practical/standard VW practice to just have a different layer for details? And how does one normally handle enlarged portions of plans. I have 1/8" floor plans, but need a few 1/4" views for toilet rooms, and stair plans.
  22. Ahh, groovy, cool. Thanks Tim.
  23. Maybe a wish list item. Can the text leader go back on itself. See image. In tight places it would be nice.
  24. so through some strange and random clicks of the mouse and maybe keyboard I end up with this next to cursor arrow. see attached. and all of the menu items are gray and non selectable. I have to quit VW and restart to undo what I did . Ever see this before?
  25. I have a few objects that are colored (lets color A and color B) i want a new object with Color B but since VW doesn't label colors one has to go to the palette and hope you get the same or place the colored object the eyedropper it. Is there an easier way? I want to basically eydedrop a color before placing the new object.
