  1. I restarted and that solved the issue. It freaked me out because I had done a lot of work and feared a corrupt file.. and like I mentioned it a was an inherited autocad file and a bizarre one at that.

Thanks and hope you are having a good weekend.

  2. I switched from my design layer to a sheet layer and the drawing area went black.

I can drag over the drawing and the end points of object will "flash". If I hold down middle mouse button to pan background is white again and I can see viewports and title block.

what could I have possibly done to create this situation?

Okay a little more info. If I zoom way out from 100% to 4% then the background is white and I can see the image.

When on design layer I tried to edit a symbol and something similar happened.

See attached image. What I wanted to do was ungroup the symbol but that option is grayed and not available.

This is from an autocad file I inherited. I have worked with it and printed from sheet mode or sheet layer before today.

  3. Yes since I can't really edit them the way I need to, I have to redraw them.

I'll try the 7th mode, usually I use the 2nd for this task.

Jim, your suggestion is perfect a "fixed end" edit mode.

    Thanks

  4. I need to modify a 2d arc. I want one end to remain fixed, but the other end and arc center point will move based on where I want the end to be. The radius is not important to me. It is for a lighting / power plan. Clicking on the end allows me to extend or shrink the arc. Please not the 2d reshape tool:(

  5. I've inherited some acad drawings. All walls are drawn as lines. Need to stretch a wall with door to new location 12" from original. No stretch command in VW. Reshape tool is probably the one to use, but how do you use it?

It is a frustrating tool. I select objects I want to reshape (really a move/stretch) then the tool, then the lasso, then move ….. well this was therapeutic…It worked!

    Nevermind. LOL.

  6. So I have received a file of .dwf's that need to be converted to pdf.

I was able to import but the text was mis scaled. Text is way oversized for the drawing, even runs off the page. I was able to convert text. Interesting it came in as 2187 point size. I can change it but it is very tedious…line at a time.

For trial I tried to export or print as pdf and nothing printed. Blank page every time.

    Any clues?

  7. So I had one created with my logo, lifework and data records or fields but I did not put my logo and stamp separate classes so that I could turn on/off. Also need to change the logo. So to edit this I either ungrouped or decomposed it, made my edits saved it with a new name but it is all parts and pieces. If I select all and create symbol will the fields be editable or do I need to create a new data record and associate text with the record (might be saying this wrong).

I think I just need to start it over, but I would like to learn how to modify it.

  8. It wasn't rotating like it should have. I suspect it had something to do with the file I had imported. It was the same survey file discussed in other topic. After re-importing I was able to set preferred orientation. Still can't figure out the 2000+ point size for the text. I suppose it has to do with Acad's method of sizing text.

Units of the drawing. So 3/32" text (10pt or 12pt. I think) would be 22.5" at 1"=20' scale. Actually having been trained that way I'm having a hard time converting to points. I like not having to convert based on scale of drawing….it will just take a few projects..

    Thanks,

    John

  9. Hi Peter,

I re-imported and set units to feet and that seemed to resolve the "measuring" issues. I then started looking at the text in the drawing. It is all there and all legible, however what is probably a 10-11 pt. size font is 2172.0 points!

So yeah, I'll turn off everything except some crucial geometry and go from there.

    Thanks,

    John

  10. Does everyone hate dealing with surveyors autocad files?

I imported a single .dwg file into my VW file. Didn't change any standard settings.

All seemed to go well. Geometry, text, graphics all in tact. Layers converted to classes. Viewport was there. (wish I knew how to crop it …. sure it isn't too difficult).

I set my units to feet as most surveyor files are in feet, but then the line lengths were 1/12 of what they should be. I changed units to inches and a property line for instance is 122.25" long instead of 122.25' …..so I know i'm getting close.

Any tricks to work with these files?

    Thanks,

  11. I feel your pain. I am able to crank out 2d drawings rather quickly um err, using brand "x" software. But I was tired of lines and arcs and generating sections and elevations is quite labor intensive. The tools in VW architect were very appealing. I love doing plans with the wall tools and associated file tools. I struggle setting up the model correctly so that elevations and sections are correct. For me I think it is a matter of investing more time. Right now my work load dictates that I be productive every minute of the day and then some. So my investment is gathering dust!

I was just glad to hear someone else was in a similar predicament.

There is a lot of help available here on this forum.

Hope it goes well with you!
