hi, often update my "latest" VW file by copying and pasting-in- place elements from a different version of that same drawing. That is, I might paste in a structural plan I've worked out on a differently named file (but that originated from the same drawing). I paste-in-place and it usually goes exactly where it should, but the process gets hairy when it doesn't. What makes this "shift" happen if I have not moved things around in neither drawing? Please advise

donm: I think you can get around that problem by making a DLVP and exporting to Artlantis from there... carpalmer

succesfully exported model to Artlantis 2, but its bundled some parts together, so that when I apply grass to the garden, it applies it to my walls too! I imagine I need to do some eadjustments to the model in Vectorworks? Different classes? Also, how do I make those adjustments and then update my Artlantis model? Brendanfella: Artlantis is a stand alone program, look it up in the web http://www.artlantis.com/ carpalmer

I've never have had consistent "luck" with "export to PDF" or Acrobat. I use Primo PDF by default, it's a free application you can download and works flawlessly, complex (heavy, with images, etc, etc, etc...)files and all... It installs as a printer and is very easy to use check it out carpalmer

thanks for most helpful input. MCH: I've been trying to figure out exactly what you are suggesting re. DLVP, could you help me out with a few more specifics? Have been reading up on DLVP, but haven't used them and still don't quite know what they're for... in our case I know we'd use them instead of Layer Linking, but don't know how. Do you create a DLVP for ea. layer and then somehow stack them? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Carpalmer

Just downloaded Artlantis 2 Demo & Plug in and exported a trial model from VW 2008. Here are some initial querries: 1. model is composed of 3 different layers, but they all exported "on top "of each other 2. in trying to apply textures (shaders) onto a window in model, it applied texture ALL of window, to all walls and to 3d poly used as site, however was able to apply a different texture to roof. Is this a class issue? How do you prepare model to accept textures to its different components? Anyone out there with a good source for Artlantis instructions besides site's tutorials? Does program come with decent manuals? thx carpalmer

how do u toggle the cursor so that it goes from "interactive scaling" mode (diagonal arrows) to "non-interactive" (cross hairs)? thx carpalmer XP

Renderworks produces rather basic renderings when compared to higher end rendering softwares (lighting - shadow, textures, 3 d shapes quality, etc, etc.), plus it takes FOREVER when you put more than a few (five?) light sources, I have never even ventured into radiosity... since some of my Custom Renderworks take over 12 hrs... I know about cutting down light sources, and other ways to simplify rendering, but some of the renderings are intrincicly complicated (ie: not a shoe box with one light source). I have been a user for over 18 years and have latest VW version and high end computer (Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 Ghz, 2.75 GB Ram), and I am now interested in getting better renderings. So what are the suggestions, Cinema 4D? What is the latest in VW / Maxon plug in? Just visited Maxon site and there's NO mention of VW workflow (although they have a demo video for Archicad and Allplan...) Also, since Nemetschek now owns Maxon, can we expect some technology transfers and SERIOUS improvements to Renderworks? Interested in what other VW users opinions and expectations on this subject. thx carpalmer

I put my windows and doors on a class that gets turned off on the Structural plan VP, but then just get an "interrupted" wall at the window opening. What I want to achieve is 2 lines indicating wall faces below, and not just a blank area where window goes. Is there a way to play with PIO class parts classes to get what I want? Tried with sills but didn't work... pls advise thx carpalmer

yes Michaels, I've brought this up about 6 months ago on this forum, to tech support and to the bug department, and nothing has been done about it... (except aknowledging that italics don't export to PDF) My logo is in italics so this was quite frustrating... I've now replaced it with an image. My export to PDF seems to have steadilly deteriorated, now failing to complete any export (just get bits and pieces exported...), so have to use a third party PDF converter. Anyone else experiencing this? VW 2008 SP2 XP carpalmer

I'm on XP and fairly profficient with Vectorworks, yet never used Alpha channels (have edited, removed backgrounds, etc.) Tried the PNG approach but it brought in some background (even though it was deleted in PS)... anyways, if you have it in you to share some more insight, I'll definately look forward to it. thx carpalmer

trying to use new transparency feature on tree images (imported jpegs) to dress up my bldg elevations, but can't get rid off white background around image... any work around? Masking? Elevations are 2 d / no rendering, just line drawings. thx carpalmer

anyone else getting partial exports (only bits and pieces export)? acting totally erratic, so end up using free ware (Primo PDF) and it works EVERY time... XP/ VW 2008 latest update carpalmer

working on drawing and windows show up differently in Flr Plan VP and Reflected Ceiling VP... I didn't make drawing, but seem to recall there was a ceiling setting for windows? Why are they different, where is the setting for adjusting view? thx carpalmer
