  1. Very evocative lyric quote - have you heard the version by Me First & the Gimme Gimmes? Once heard also never forgotten.

Another thing - I'm not baring anything, particularly if the North Pole is involved in any way.

And, Australia is a group of islands off the west coast of New Zealand, so don't you go lumping us in with them, we more than pull our weight on these fora.

  2. Interesting that Archicad has no hangups about calling their new version 13! Oh, I forgot - 2009 was taken.

I am so looking forward to version 2010 - there's sure to be at least a restyled desktop layout, there will be new tools to learn and old ones to find, and undoubtedly there'll be a groovy new logo to round it all off. We really don't know how lucky we are.

  3. What on earth are you banging on about?

Neither the original poster or I breathed a word of criticism towards NNA or Vectorworks.

All we want to know from other users who are still on VW12.5 is whether it will continue to run on OS10.6. If you can give us a definite yes or no to that, great, but any other comments are irrelevant and unhelpful.

  4. Frankly, remarks like these last two are patronising, condescending, and distinctly unhelpful.

First, there's a recession on, and not all of us have the workload to justify upgrading Vectorworks right now, second, there's a difference between a $US29 OS upgrade and several hundreds to upgrade Vectorworks, third, the current VW is about to be superseded by yet another upgrade anyway.

All we want to know from other users who are still on VW12.5 is whether it will continue to run on OS10.6. If you are on some other version, kindly save your comments for users of that version, thank you.

I'm not answering your query directly, but:

They sound very useful tools, your guy is very clever, and I can understand why you would want to hold on to them. Other people may be interested as well, so there may be a market for them.

Your iMac ain't that decrepit yet. I think you can upgrade all the way to OS10.4.11 for free (Software Update on the menu under Apple) or you could upgrade to OS10.5 for a fee (OS10.6 is imminent). You might want to add as much ram as the iMac will accommodate, and consider replacing the hard drive with something bigger. One thing though, if you go beyond OS10.4 you won't be able to run Mac Classic OS9, so if you have any old files that require Classic, keep your present machine if you acquire a new one.

  6. Welcome to the forums.

It would help other users to help you if you could add a signature that outlines your relevant hardware and software.

You could try searching the printing forum - I'm pretty sure this problem has been covered there some time ago.

  7. I applied Font Book - there were some fonts with minor problems apparently, all with .ttf or .otf suffix. Does that matter? There do not seem to be duplicate fonts.

The one I use, and the Epson printer doesn't recognise, is Tekton Pro, an Adobe open type, so I am puzzled as to why it doesn't work with a .pdf drawing, unless it's to do with Vectorworks using it's own version of .pdf.

  8. That happens to me to when I try to print to my old Epson 1160 - the font defaults to Geneva or something like that. And I have an Intel Mac.

Epson's response was "You will need to contact Vectorworks to find out if the font you are trying to print will work with a the Epson 1160 inklet printer or if it will only work through a post script driver which the 1160 is not compatiable with" which was ungrammatical and not a lot of help.

Printing through Preview didn't work for me, and neither did converting to PDF, until I spotted an option - Adobe>Print>Advanced>Print As Image - then it printed with the correct font.

  9. Nice stair and drawing, and I agree with your sentiment, but in my country, your wire railings (parallel to the flight) are illegal, because a child may climb on them and hurl themselves over to their death!

We can only have vertical rails with a gap of no more than 100mm, because again a child may insert its head and get stuck!

Let me assure you though, it's not the children in my country that are stupid ......

  10. Who knows with the expert guidance found here, 30 days may kick the can down the road far enough to illuminate the virtues of VW for me....that?s my plan anyhow since there really isn't an alternative.

The thing is Daniel, we are all users here, with lives and careers and workloads of our own.

While senior users are extremely knowledgeable about the program and to my mind are incredibly patient with newbies who come steaming on to these forums demanding instant answers and who complain because the program isn't like the program they have tried before and presumably found wanting, it's a bit much of you to expect anyone to provide you with free training.

My advice: breathe through your nose for a while, and pay for some training.

  11. You can change texture sides in 2 ways:

    1. with the wall selected, click Reverse Sides in the Object Info Palette, or

    2. modify the Class - change sides under Walls in the texture section.

    2. is best if the wall has several components, ie brick veneer on the outside, plasterboard on the inside - you want the brick veneer texture to associate with the brick veneer component obviously. The left/right sides of the wall is to do with the direction you drew the wall, so it might need a bit of trial and error to get every wall showing textures correctly.

My apologies if you have already done this - restart your Mac, Repair Permissions, then open Vectorworks. Does the problem persist?

Is this a file that you started in v2008 and then converted to v2009?

  13. There are several promotions/competitions running here at any given moment, either through newspapers or trade journals.

As of today, one has an iPhone as the prize, one has a selection of iPods, another has a Mac laptop. None are offering any other brand of phone, or Zunes, or PC's.

Why is that, do you think?

  14. No one has mentioned hard drive capacity - could it be getting full?

I have seen on the Mac forums that it is a good idea to have at least 10% (15% better) free space, otherwise everything slows down and you see erratic behaviour.

If you have all your project files loaded, and music, video, email, etc, etc, it is easy to fill up what seemed at the start to be an enormous hard drive.

  15. Maybe - suppose Legacy isn't in the next upgrade?

First 2d/3d Section was in an on-screen palette, next version it's in the Workspace Editor, now we find it's in a Legacy file - I ask you, where to next?

I just feel with each upgrade we are being steered towards using VW in a certain way, whereas one of the things I have always liked is that there is usually more than one way to draw something. Good ol' 2D/3D Section is still a very useful tool - I still use it for working drawing cross sections.

  16. How do you copy a window or a door from one wall to another?

If you have several doors or windows that are identical, it's best to make them into symbols. Set the first up the way you want it, then go Create Symbol (tick Leave Instance In Place). The symbol will be put into the Resource Browser, and you just double click on it to select it, then click on the wall(s) where you want it placed.

  17. Pepsi

Once you get the doors properly inserted, you can also get rid of those wall lines across your doorways - you might have the WD-Ceiling class or thresholds turned on, or it may be that Trim & Sill settings need adjusting.

Another thought - do you have overlapping walls? Some of your wall junctions don't look finished.

It would be helpful if you could show a signature with your computer details and VW version shown.
