    Thank you for the suggestion.

After Restart however, going on the Board site generated 2 cookies, which I deleted. Then my first first log-in failed as usual, but generated 7 cookies.

The 2nd log-in succeeds, whether or not I delete the 7 cookies.

Are you suggesting I set my Mac to deny all cookies?

I have refreshed my Browser as suggested, and had to Log-in again of course.

If changes are planned for the Board, could someone please take a look at why I have to Log-in twice before the Board accepts it? It was the same under the Tech Board setup as well.

  3. Welcome to the forums.

It would be helpful if you could include a signature with your system details.

For instance, if you are on the latest Mac, you won't have access to OS9 (Classic) which I think you will need to even open MiniCAD 7, so that may be your first problem.

Other forum users may be able to advise you how to upgrade once you can access the early files, but it could be that you can simply copy & paste between layers in each file.

  4. I just completed a uni project in which I had a spiralling circulation route which passes through the various zones- each at a different level within an existing building.

Ah, didn't we all do a Uni project like that?

Malte, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to split levels - you decide how to set it out, depending on the parameters of your particular design. Floors can be at any level within, above or below a layer - you can have a layer for each and every level, or you can have just one layer with all the floors set out relative to it, or (probably) something in between. It does get complicated with overlapping levels, and I would be interested to know how others cope with that.

In the case of an existing building, I would start with layers for each existing floor level plus the roof, because you have to show the existing for the Council and the existing exterior walls and roof will be easier to draw, then look to set out the new levels relative to those layers, which is how it will actually be built as well.

  5. I no longer have an A1 printer, but I want to draw in A1 and send PDF's to a bureau for printing.

However, I can't get VW to accept an A1 page size - it keeps breaking it up into A3 page sizes, presumably because that's the largest page size my present printer will do.

Does anyone know how to get VW to use a page size outside those of a plugged in printer?

  6. Maybe this is a class issue - I notice your Fill and Pen attributes aren't selected for Class Style, unless they show differently in v2009. It sounds like there is a over-riding class with white fill involved somewhere.

Is the truss in its own class, set up the way you want, including texture?

If you go into the truss group (double click, not ungrouping it) what class are all the constituent members? They may have to be individually classed and textured.

In your Attributes palette, with nothing selected, are all Fill and Pen boxes set to Class Style/Color? I use None as my default class, with the Fill and Pen boxes set up like that, then I change the class of an object once it's created, and the object then adopts the new class characteristics.

  7. Try some Mac maintenance - my apologies if you already know these .......

    1. Restart (I guess you've done that).

    2. Run Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk Permissions.

    3. Leave your Mac on overnight, or download a program called MacJanitor and run it weekly.

    4. Buy a program called DiskWarrior and run it weekly.

    HTH.

  8. My Mac has 1 GB of memory, which I'm guessing is not enough. How much memory is needed on the computer and/or plotter in order to print a file like mine? Is it as simple as buying more memory and plopping it into the hard drive?

It depends on your Mac - it may have room for an additional module(s) or you may be able to replace your existing module with say a 2GB. But they plug into slots inside the machine, they have nothing to do with the hard drive. Perhaps you should check with your Mac supplier to see what can be done with your particular Mac - it may be that the cost to upgrade makes a new machine feasible.

When you upgrade beyond VW11.5, you will need more memory (at least 2GB, 4GB better), especially for high end renders like your gorgeous illustration.

  9. I am drawing sections of a house in 2D (sketch plan stage) and want to show sunlight at midsummer and midwinter, entering the door and clerestory window on one side and crossing the side wall.

I'd like to be able to draw a filled shape for each and colour them differently, but they need a degree of transparency so the area common to both shows as a third blended colour.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how that might be done in VW?

Welcome to the forums. As you can see, there are some very funny(?) people here.

It is helpful if you put a signature on your posts, so we can see what system you are running.

You incorporate a basement level by using Layers. You can leave the ground floor layer as Level 0 and give the basement floor a negative level or you can start with the basement floor at 0.

  11. Welcome to the forums.

Please add a signature that describes your hardware and software.

You get WinDoor as part of the Aus/NZ package - you can draw most configurations with that.

If you have problems, email Julian Carr at OzCad, join Jonathan Pickup's User Group, or buy one of Jonathan's Archoncad manuals.

I don't consider auto-join walls a user error, I just don't use it myself because

    1. it's a hassle if you subsequently move the wall (you have to use the Heal tool as well);

    2. the wall as in CS1's case ends at the centre of the cross wall, so of course Fit To Roof isn't going to work the way he thought it would.

  13. One swell foop!!!! I love it.

I assumed CS1 had unjoined the walls. I don't T join walls as a rule any way, unless I have to join components.

CS1, I don't think it's a bug - the program apparently works to a higher degree of accuracy than 2 decimal places, as Pete A has described. Claiming something is a bug when it doesn't work the way you think it should is a Chicken Licken response that is a bit too common on these forums.

The thing is - did our suggestions work and has the wall sliver disappeared?
