  1. Now I am working in VW11.

I am starting to look at sending drawings as pdf to clients because getting dwgs printed is a problem.

I can not see any direct reference to exporting as a PDF in the manual. Before I do a search and start reading in detail any posts on exporting to pdf's here on the forums, is there anything relevant in the manual, ie is EPSF a form of PDF ?

    Thanks

  2. When I say modified I just mean hundreds of new plants added to it.

Am I likely to encounter any problems if I import the modified PRD from VW10 into VW11 ?

The current PRD I use in 10 has been greatly added to, will it happily replace the current PRD that comes with 11 ?

Is there any tricks I need to look out for ?

  3. New to vw11.

I am trying to place a "arch" drawing border into a drawing from the architect pallete button.

It needs to be ISO A1 which goes in the drawing fine but I want it to have the detailed title block found in the condoc borders.

I go to the issue manager to try and do this but when I enter details and then save it all the title block does not appear with the drawing border,

I have read the manual but can not find out what I am doing wrong, I had no problem doing this in version 10.

I have also tried to use the condoc border but I can not change its dimensions to A1 for some reason.

    Thanks [smile]

  4. I am feeling more positive about VW, its main functions seem to be settling down and the package as a whole is more stable, bells and whistles are pointless if the program is crashing.

I do feel Landmark is being left behind and for me it is in need of a major redesign, especially its main function the place plant tool.

  5. Hi Rick,

There has been lots of posts relating problems with VW and updating to sp2, (search for sp2 to read a number, ie - http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004039 and here - http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004182)

It seems there is definate compatability problems and I don't want to load sp2 if there is problems especially if sp2 is not needed.

Interesting to hear your experience though.

  6. 1. What is the latest on running VW 11.1 with SP2, has the problems been solved ?

    2. I have just loaded on VW11.1 should I update to SP2 ?

    3. Is SP2 necessary or can I happily continue to work without updating to it ?

  7. What I do think would be a benefit is that all these "best methods" of carrying out the VW fundamentals like "exporting tips to Autocad" or "changing line weights of plant tags" etc, etc things that come up regularly should be posted as they come to light and a new version of the software comes out.

This would circumvent many people having to face repeat problems all the time.

"VectorWorks 11 Important Information(Read only!!) " has no such pointers as yet at all.

  8. Well from a landscape designers point of view, who uses Landmark mostly I would say this, and I say this with the rider that I am no computer geek as was mentioned above.

The importing/exporting to autocad and Archicad has been a problem and in the end it is a matter of working out what is the most successful method, in other words initially it is a headache but can be worked around.

The landmark and most importantly and the most important function of landmark the place plant tool has been.... a challenge at times and on occassion down right frustrating, it has settled down by the end of the vw10 journey but as I have not had the courage to jump into 11 yet I don't know how it is going.

So in summary I would endorse buying VW.

ps. Something I would say and in support of this statement : "We are architects, not computer geeks"

I am the first to say I am no expert in computers but I don't believe one should have to purchase a sophisticated program like this only to find out one has to become a "computer geek" to work your way through some of the inherant problems with the software.

I am a landscape designer and as such I am an expert in designing with plants, not an expert computer geek and I don't believe I should have to become such, that is the job of the software and why I purchased a program like this.

One of the best things I have found about VW is this help board, without it I would have jumped off I believe, so "thumbsup" to VW for supporting us with this board and the techs that assist.

I also agree that a drop down of botanical names would be a much easier option than the present codes, when you have hundreds of plants it is impossible to remember which is what.
