  1. Good point propstuff, reading more about viewports they are a snap shot of design layer, ie a design layer with things turned on or off and things added to it like borders, titles etc.

If you up date a design layer the view port will update as well yes ?

So I need to go back to the design layer and work with that yes ? and then save a new viewport.

It is funny because when I import a dwg it always comes in as a viewport and you cannot work with it so I have to go through the process each time of =

(right click > edit design layer/viewport > becomes a 2d symbol > convert to group > ungroup > and it unravels to editable lines?

before I can work with the line work, why is this necessary ?

  2. OK I have gone =

right click > edit design layer > becomes a 2d symbol > convert to group > ungroup > and it unravels to editable lines. Good

Trouble is the drawing I want to work with seems to be a sheet layer, ie it is a portion of the overall site, how can I convert this as the right click edit function only gives me the option to modify a design layer and this design layer ( which as described above I can convert now ) is mabe up of the entire site.

    Anyone understand that !

  3. Seriously: is there a single landscape architect who

    (i) does not know his/her plant material & region;

    Most in my experience !

Strong in hard landscape yes, but very often hopeless in plant knowledge.

  4. The tool is OK the problem is it is so unstable, 10,11 and now 12 has the same recurring issues. This call has been repeated for years - fix the core process rather than tacking on frills for a new release.

A number of VW users I know abandoned the plant tool and library long ago and made up their own symbols and data base.

To me it is on coincidence Landmark is the only sub forum with no dedicated moderator, ( not even a generic "tech" )and as a result so many cries for help go unanswered on the board, landmark seems not to factor too highly in the pecking order, I wonder how many have just given up ?

Has that changed of late ?

  5. The Plant Tool and database functions do require some improvements.

The plant tool and data base have been a mess for years now, upgrades add bells and whistles but fail to address core instability, nothing has changed it seems.

  6. Wooh........ you take your irrigation design to a new dimension. [Eek!]

Me, I put a bucket under the tap, measure the flow rate and divide by nozzles..... nexxxxt .... [big Grin]

Actually scary thing is I can not recall ever ending up with a system that did not work.

My tip is always specify the biggest main line possible.

    Crude I know. [big Grin]

  7. Waste of time.

Do we insist students use slide rules ?

Do we insist students use a nib and ink before they are allowed to use a ball point pen ?

Do we expect a carpenter to cut a frame with a hand saw before he can use an electric saw ?

Put a frame together with a hammer before he is allowed to touch a nail gun ?

    etc, etc, etc

  8. I second that notion.

Also a more active input in the landmark forum would be appreciated, it is easy to feel landmark has been cut adrift from "VW central"

Posts go unanswered and to me there is very little connection between us the landmark users and VW proper.

As tvetter rightly said I too feel there is little understanding of the specific needs of us landmark users, in both the pure technical challengers of the software but more importantly an appreciation of "landscape design" as opposed to electronic drafting, one is very different from the other.

  9. OMG [Eek!][Eek!]

This is not the sort of stuff I/we need to read in a just released new version, especially one that claims big advances in the very problems outlined above, ie the place plant tool.

Why does each version have to be one step forward and 2 steps back [Confused]

Note: Marietta is no bunny when it comes to using landmark effectively whats more.

  10. quote:

such as changing object attributes started taking an unacceptable long time to complete.

This is excactly what I experience, it has got to the point where I can sense the slow down so I close down VW and re boot each time to avoid it crashing on its own accord.

When it does start to slow down the pf bar is ALWAYS right up there.
