Peter, The building is not quite finished yet but I will send it when it is. Question is - how do I attach the image?
-
Here's what finally worked thanks to technical help from my distributor at Resolve Software Solutions Inc.:
1. Select front building elevation.
2. Make an arc representing the outside curve.
3. Make a smaller arc representing the inside curve.
4. Both arcs have no fill.
5. Draw and 'snap' lines to close the arcs at both ends.
6. Select both arcs and both lines and choose Compose from the Modify menu.
7. Fill in the polyline object.
8. Extrude polyline to create curved roof.
9. Locate the roof on top of front elevation.
10.Select isometric view and viola - a building with a curved roof!
-
The Unified Layer tool is in the upper right corner next to the Plan Rotation Option. Check the first, second and fourth options. You also have to select 'Show/Snap Others' under layers of the Navigation Palette for it to work.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, we Canucks no longer live in the igloos and longhouses of our indigenous peoples nor the log cabins or sod houses of our forebearers! The key word for designing warm, dry buildings is 'continuous' - be it insulation, vapour barrier or ventilation.
-
Yes, detail #2 with continuous insulation, is a standard detail for buildings here, particularly in Eastern and Northern Canada (where temperatures still drop below -30 C) although it's more common to build with steel studs and brick facing. Here on the balmy and wet West Coast it's more common to build with wood studs, which is more sustainable. Moisture penetration is a common problem here so the British Columbia Building Code requires a continuous vapour barrier on the warm side and a 10mm min. continuous capillary break between the cladding and structure so the building can 'breathe'.

Wes - Thanks for the step by step instructions. However, I only got as far as step 2 with lopsided results i.e. the 2D roof is floating high above at an angle different than the left sided isometric view of the house. Where is the SHELL toollocated? How do I attach the roof to the walls?
How do I attach my file to this email?
-
Thanks for sending the examples Wes and Vincent - they are inspiring. Although I have drawn the curved roof shape in section I am not sure how to extrude it. When I click on 'extrude' I receive a message "...objects selected were locked or are illegal". Is this because I used the round wall tool to draw it? What do I do now?
-
Hi Peter,
It's a shallow curve, 10 feet above the floor at the peak. I've already drawn it in section with the round wall tool but want to see what it looks like in isometric view. I realize it will be an expensive roof to build but I am doing this house design for practice.

How do I create a curved roof for a house?
-
I would try sending the wall to the front which would obscure the window slightly.
-
Shawn,
It worked perfectly!
Thanks, Alora
-
Shawn - I've downloaded GrayscaleMe and placed it in my Application folder but I'm not sure how to use it. I've tried dragging my colour coded VW pdf to the alias on my dock but nothing happens.
-
Thanks Kevin - it worked!

Is it possible to change of the size of the reference marker, or any other marker, under tool sets or do I have to create one to suit the scale of my plan?
-
To change hatches I can use Attribute Mapping tool on 'unstyled' walls and Modify > Hatch or Object Info on 'styled' walls - is that it?
-
Wouldn't Duplicate Array work just as well?
-
It was me. When I created the wall I had selected a 'styled' concrete block wall which obviously can't be modified.
-
I tried using the Edit Hatch dialog box yesterday and again this morning and it doesn't apply the new enlarged diagonal lines I have just edited. It's the same with the Attribute Mapping Tool- when I drag the marquee the hatch scale does not change. It must be me or my mouse!
-
I realize Stipple patterns aren't the same as Hatches (sorry for the confusion - I'm working on two areas of the same drawing). I can't seem to change the scale of the hatches using the Attribute Marquee or the dialogue box, as described in VW help, so I may have to draw my own hatches.
-
Thanks Peter. While I was waiting for a reply I discovered the Stipple Tool so I have managed to draw a decent concrete pattern. However I?m having difficulty changing the hatch scale for both a default hatch and a hatch attribute. I?ve tried the Attribute Tool and modifying the hatch with the dialog box but neither works. Any suggestions?

When I upgraded from VW8.5 to 2010 I was hoping to find a wider range of patterns. Instead the Attributes Palette seems to have the same regular patterns. What I am looking for is the universal pattern for concrete, i.e. random dots and triangles. Are irregular patterns available or do I have to create them myself?
-
It turns out it was a wall component which I deleted under "Object Info". ( This is the first time I've answered my own question!)
-
I transferred some drawings from VW 8.5 to VW 2010 and all is fine except for my grey concrete walls which have a white line running through them. How do I remove the white line?
-
Thanks Pat, that did it.
VW 11.5 to 2011 (yes, really)

I upgraded from VW8.5 to VW2010 a few months ago and have been able to transfer my 2D files from my old Mac G3 to my new Power Mac with no problems.
