For stone wainscot that is basically what I do. But it is a little cumbersum subtracting for each and every window or door that cuts into the stone. Especially when there are lots of windows. I'm just looking for a quicker way to apply it.

Is there a way to add a component to a wall, but make it a different height than the rest of the wall?

You are right Kevin. I've been looking for an Automator script that might handle this problem. Or another program. No luck so far.

Has anyone had any luck using Automator to convert "batch printing" to .pdf? I just had to convert 30 pages "time consuming"

Thanks Jan15, You are right about the regeneration time. That part is time consuming. I too, like working with sketch-up. I do construction drawings in VW and find that the 3D is a side benefit. A benefit I can use as concepts and hopefully be one step closer to having a start on my construction drawings. I'm just curious as to my views on how to use VW effectively. My goal is to use all the tools available to me and efficiently use my time. I appreciate everyones views on this subject. Since there's many ways to "skin a cat". I'll keep doing what I've been doing.

Peter, I tried to do the concept in sketchup, it seemed to be wasting time when I could already have part of the work finished in VW. The draw back would be if the work didn't produce a viable (working) project. So my concern was if there would be less wasted time using Sketchup as opposed to VW. There is added time to importing Sketchup to VW and converting items to usable VW objects. Thanks for your input.

I would like to know (a general concensus) on using Vectorworks as a concept tool rather than Sketchup. I generated a 3D conceptual model in VW. with Renderworks for the first time. My client was impressed and bought the whole project. My question is two fold. Could I acheive similar results in sketch-up and then transfered the information to VW to start the working drawings? Secondly since I did my concepts in VW and don't need all the rendering information (furniture, etc.) should I start a new set and import only what I need from the concepts?

Thanks Robert, I have changed it to none. I made a class for it inserted it and it disappears to an invisable class. To see it I have to turn dimensioning back on. I endded up putting all of my dimensions in another class and left the 3D in dimension.

I inserted a 3D female into a floor plan. The class says "none" yet when I turn off the "Dimension " class the figure goes with it. Is there some way to move the 3D figures out of "Dimension"? Or did I miss somthing? Thanks

Ed. I have to admit you are always at the cutting edge.

I just started using speakable commands with my G5 imac. It works terrific. I no longer have to take time to remeber the key commands to get the program to do those things I don't use every day. Is anyone using this free seldom used benefit from apple? It seems to be alot better than I remember and it works great with vectorworks 12! A few more commands and we probably won't need a mouse to draw.

Actually We solved the problem. I couldn't of solved it without your help thanks again.

Thanks Kevin, I think it helped a little at least now it says its spooling. Then (print Dialog)the it just goes blank when it reaches 100%. Slow progress? Mike

Ed. I think youre right about that. I thought I set this up just the same as it was in Panther. I dont have a printer server. The plotter is connected thru the eithernet. It looks like thing just keep getting worse. I can't seem to find the right settings for this. Thanks Mike

Does anyone have information on the difference between stting up my HP750c on Panther and setting it up on Tiger? We just purchased Tiger transfered everything from panther and cannot get the plotter to work. We used the same information (although the driver set-up is alittle stranger) and the print dialog says the Network host '192.168.0.2' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds...." I'm looking for a way to send colleagues drawings to red pencil online. So they won't need special software to do this. Is there a service that you know of?

Thanks EJ. I figured it out. I had to recreate the screen in a different view and it works fine. It has somthing to do with the centering of the object.

I created a Shoji screen for a restaurant that we're designing. I changed it to a symbol and placed it in the center of the wall we needed it on my design layer. when we look at any sheets withe that viewport the screen is aprox. 3' outside the wall. Is there somthing wrong with the symbol? It even does this if I 3D view it on the design layer.

I'm sorry VW 11.5 on what else.. MAC OS 10.39

The upper cabinets in my kitchen were rendered yesterday, today their without. I've tried every thing from class render to object render, changed styles and the like. Still can't get the uppers to render again. The base cabinets work fine. I can turn rendering on, off and change on them. What happened? I've tried all the different renderers and they still come out grey.

We have all of our drawings (arch D) set for the plotter. we print out proofs (tabloid) using a desk jet. To print proofs we need to go to page set-up and change the page size and reduce the drawing to fit (50%). It has become time consuming to print these pages and return to page set-up to make every thing normal again. If one of us forgets to change back then we waste more time. Is there an easier way to print out a set than to change every page back and forth. Anyone?
