  1. We are a small Architecture office using OS X. We type all our note files in Word and paste them into VW. In order to retain our formatting we use a feature called copy as picture that is only available in Word 5.1 (and earlier?) This has saddled us with Classic. Classic is a bit of a resource hog and I understand that Classic will be abandonded at some point.

I wonder what other Architects using OS X are doing for notes. Please share.

  2. I considered your point about work flow. If the one machine goes down, we lock up. Our backup plan is to print to PDF and send prints to our reprographic service (something we already do with big jobs, as it is actually faster when printing sets of 6 sheets or more...even factoring in delivery time).

We expect color could become standard in the next 4 or 5 years...at which time we will look for a color solution.

  3. Looks like this question went over like a lead balloon.

We have opted for a KIP 3000. Two rolls, electro-photography (think Laser), scanning and copying. Does not print in color but does scan in color (send color scans to reprographics house for color prints). We tested some of our beefiest files and they plotted from our Powerbook (OS 10.4) using Vectorworks 11 in about a minute (from the time we pressed 'print' to the time we held the print in our hands). Most files take closer to 30 seconds.

We do not yet have a machine in our office, but I hope to post updates in about 3 or 4 months.

    It runs about $16,000...I think.

  4. We are a Mac office looking for a new wide format printer. Our needs are as follows: (2) rolls (D & E size paper), B&W (we do not need color, but will take it), fast printing, OS X compatible, less than $15,000 (preferably way less).

We are looking at some toner based printers (KIP) but the drivers for the mac are pretty weak. The print quality is sharp, though.

We currently use a pair of HP 430 DesignJets and they are much too slow for our needs, plus print quality is not as good as we would like.

I would really appreciate any recommendations. Really!

  5. "If you want to return to using the postscript loop you can use the terminal to set a default that will tell the 10.3.x print system to behave similarly to how things used to be in 10.2.x. Be aware that altering this setting may well affect all printer drivers on your system, and it may cause adobe acrobat to fail to print in certain circumstances. So, to make your legacy apps produce postscript, similarly to how they behaved in Jaguar, enter this command at a terminal prompt:

    defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.print.apple.pictwpstopdf YES

To return to the default "correct" behavior in Panther enter this command:

    defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.print.apple.pictwpstopdf NO"

    This has worked for me.

  6. The diagonal line problem can be solved in 11...

    from my archives...

After some searching around on the GIMP site I found the following information that fixes the problem.

"If you want to return to using the postscript loop you can use the terminal to set a default that will tell the 10.3.x print system to behave similarly to how things used to be in 10.2.x. This has worked for me.

  7. Yes, my viewports are vanishing as well. I saw another thread about this problem and they mentioned that the saved sheets scripts did not pull up the saved views either. I found this to be true.

I am using VW 11.0.1 with OS 10.4.3 on a Dual 2 gig G5 with 512 megs RAM. This problem only occured after I migrated to this new machine. I was using 10.3 on a G4 400 with about 700 megs of RAM and never had this problem.

  8. After the second time this happened to me I decided I needed to get some help from you folks.

I have a file that has lost about 15 saved views on it. I recreated them by looking at an older version. This process took me perhaps 2 hours. Now I found that the same thing happened again. To put this mildly, this is NOT cool.

I would love it if Nemetschek could help me out, more likely I will get some tips from the users, most likely I will get some sympathy but no advice. Please prove me a sceptic.

  9. We are having problems with our cloud tool attributes. When we set the max and min billow radius and billow ht. they revert to some default value. The setting we use are .01, .01 and .1 (respectively). It defaults back to 1/8, 1/8 and .1 (I think). Any ideas why this is happening?

  10. We have a lot of legacy note files (general notes, construction notes..any large amount of notation) that we have composed in Word. We have found that we are unable to use anything newer than Word 5.1 to import text and keep formatting information. I wonder how other people do this sort of notation.

    Mac 10.3 and 10.4. VW 11.

    Thank you.
