  1. I am not able to replicate this here in a new blank test file.

Could you please post a sample file where it has occurred for you? (Saving before attempting the crash)

    Clarifications:

My procedure was to double click on the replacement symbol in the symbols pane followed by clicking "OK". The crash then occurs immediately after.

Could it be... my mouse? I use a Kensington Expert Mouse and have one key programmed for a double click. I experimented on a copy of the attached file and the crash only occurred when using the programmed double click. No crash when doing an old fashioned manual double click. Strange.

  2. I have experienced this in VW2013 and now in VW 2014. In a new file create two objects and make them symbols. Now select one symbol and replace it with the other, but double click the replacement symbol on the pop-up menu instead of single clicking. VW crashes every time.

Yeah I know that I should only be single clicking the replacement symbol but an inadvertent double click in any operation shouldn't crash VW.

On another note: I just got back from vacation (Istanbul rocks!), updated to VW2014, and wish to add my voice to the chorus praising the new level of board participation by VW staff.

  3. I first assume that the symbol was created at 1:1 scale and it is outside of the screen boundary. Go to View>Fit to Objects and the symbol should now be visible.

    If not ...

Make sure you are in Top/Plan view.

Check the class of your new symbol is set to be visible.

Beyond this I defer to others!

By the way it would be helpful to create a profile describing you VW version, computer and operating system. (MyStuff>Edit Profiles)

  4. Hey Bob,

Did you manage to find a solution to this issue? I just upgraded last night and have spent the last hour or so thinking I was going mad...!

    Adrian Tarrant

    Architect

    Sydney, Australia

    iMac/2.66 GHz/4 GB RAM/Mac OS 10.7.5/VWA2012 SP4 (OzCad)

While irritating it's not enough to deflect my attention from the deadline I'm on! So, no I haven't come across an explanation for this behavior much less a solution.

I will muddle on and report any insights.

  5. The moire effect is not something that Renderworks cause or can fix. There is quite a lot on the web about what causes it.

Hopefully with the advent of higher resolution screens (e.g. retina display) and software + video drive adaptation this issue may to some degree may be mitigated for at least on screen display.

    Time will tell.

  6. I upgraded to OS10.7.5 this morning and immediately noticed that the selection handles in VW12 had changed appearance. Specifically they are significantly larger and slightly off-center with respect to line or object end points. Furthermore the ability to differentiate between a wall end and start has disappeared since the small triangle at the start is no,longer visible... no matter the zoom level.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

    Bob

  7. Also note that as you hover with the cursor over the finish layers it will alternately highlight just the face or double lines of the wall finish. The cap formed will be different depending on which was highlighted at the moment of button release.

Also there is the option to keep the wall length unchanged when adding caps by unchecking a box in the tool settings box. Otherwise the wall will grow in length as caps are added.

  8. I've had similar problems though only rarely and only with files created in an earlier version, i.e., VW2011 and 2010. No problems so far when using VW 2012 to edit 2012 files.

My usual solution is to throw up my hands, count to ten and delete the offending text then re-enter it manually. OK if it's not a large block.

  9. Other things to try, that may or may not work...

If you have one, restart from your Lion install disk and use Disk Utility (from drop down menu) to again repair permissions and them run disk repair. If your computer did not come with Lion on disk you will need a 3rd party utility application ($) such as Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro or Drive Genius that can check and rebuild your disk directory, defragment hard drive, etc. Good to have one of these applications anyhow.

    or,

Restart, but this time before the chime sounds hold down the shift key (forces the system run background diagnostics and repairs). After a longer than normal startup enter you password when prompted. You will now be operating the base OSX without add-ons. See if VW behaves better. If it does improve, then there is some 3rd party add-on that is causing the problem.

Another restart without the shift key puts you back in normal mode.

Also, how full is your hard drive? If you have anything less than around 25% free it can cause slow system and application behavior. Free drive space is frequently used as temporary virtual memory.

Also, since you say that it is a long term problem, you might try re-installing VW.

    Hope some of this helps,

    Bob

  10. I have used 2 overlayed lines or polylines. Draw membrane profile and give it a black color and thickness suitable for the scale of the drawing or detail. Duplicate it in place and change the second object to white in color, select a thinner line and a dash style then group.

You will have to play around with the settings to get the graphic appearance you need.

It all would be much simpler with a "membrane tool".

  11. Mitchell,

I am experiencing the same problem as Terry. More specifically, the viewport hatch positioned with the attributes tool on the design layer will inexplicably shift after repositioning the viewport. In my case the hatch is a standard VW 12" tile pattern scaled to represent 6" tiles.

I'm in the middle of a deadline and don't have the time to reason it out so have reverted to using the hatch menu command.

  12. I feel your pain Andrew. My earlier posts in this thread not withstanding, I have since learned that VW had fixed it in SP3... sort of.

If you edit the keynote by double clicking the note instance in the Viewport Annotation edit mode then any change to the keynote will no longer cause spontaneous reformatting.

However, if you edit the note via the keynote legend by double clicking on the legend, bad behavior returns.

Why fix one instance of the problem and not the other is frankly beyond me.

    OK, back to work.

    Bob

  13. Don,

Furthermore, Smart Edge and Smart Point acquisition times can be adjusted in the Smart Cursor Settings dialog (just double click on one of the settings choices in the Snapping Palette to get to the dialog).

    Bob

  14. J. Lucas,

Thanks for your note. I again ran the same check, with existing VW 2011 and new VW2011 files. The Keynote Legend spontaneous reformatting problem occurs without fail.

I noticed that you are running windows based VW... perhaps the problem is platform dependent?

Could some one else running Mac-based VW 2011 SP3 check this out?

    Bob

  15. I for one can confirm that the following bug has NOT been fixed in SP3:

    VB-90023

Keynote Legend reformats itself after a New Callout is added

In short, the Keynote legend text indent value spontaneously changes to an arbitrarily large value when a note is edited.

I have bug submitted the issue... again.

  16. Assuming we are talking about Mac's...

Whenever I experience font weirdness with Vectorworks ?not often but can happen when moving up the version ladder? I open the system's Font Book.app and

    1. Quit VW

    2. Run Font Validation

    3. Run Resolve Duplicates

    4. Open VW

More often than not it clears up a host of font problems.

    Hope it helps.

  17. Hello Patrick,

    I downloaded the 3 double line tools and added them to my VW 2011 work space. However each tool fails when attempting to use them in either a new file or the included test file. I get an" Internal Error - general failure encountered during disk I/O operation. (Failure on attempt to open file)" and Vector script Error "Line #1: {$INCLUDE double_polygon.px}

Just thought I'd let you know.

    Bob

(I tried to attach screen shots of the 2 error displays but the I can't attach any file larger than 8 bytes?)

  18. Well I'll be. Living by the dictum "you learn something new every day" appears to be getting easier instead of the expected opposite.

Thanks Pat and bc... while it may only be a matter of degrees it appears to be more than a matter of degree.
