  1. Hello All,

So as the over-long title says, I'm trying to teach myself Vectorscript. I am looking for a way to get the script to only apply to objects that are selected prior to running the script and would then apply to each object in the selection.

And / or, how do I retrieve handles from selected object only. I assume if you could do that you could add them to a list??? and do something with that??? (as I say I started trying to learn this yesterday and the function reference list is somewhat overwhelming!)

    Thanks for your time.

  2. Mitch,

More likely its me explaining things poorly!

So in the first example I would indeed be looking to edit the curtain wall (by double click the wall). I can then use the add frame tool to put an additional frame element (mullion if you like) in the larger curtain wall. My problem is I can't see a way I can accurately position this new element of frame. If, say, I would like it 2700mm above FFL how do I position it at that height when there are no references around?

In the second example I would edit the remaining glazing panel and change it to "open" but would still have the above problem in positioning the additional frame element.

Not sure if that makes things clearer or just more confusing :S.

  3. Thanks Mitch, actually I was creating the panel right size first and then right clicking and inserting a door. Your way makes sense though for this situation.

Elsewhere I have found that I am either just adding a frame to break up some glazing or creating a hole within the curtain walling where I have no reference object. Any tips for those that sort of situation?

  4. Hello All,

This has been annoying me for a while, I have a curtain wall system set up with lots of vertical frames. I now need to manually add some horizontal frames to allow for doors etc.

Using the double click to edit the curtain walling and the add frame tool how on Earth do I position the horizontal frame at the correct height?

Any tricks tips or methods would be gratefully received.

    Thanks for your time

  5. Thanks Alan,

I have had a play with the curtain wall tool and created something that works quite well. It would just mean removing the cladding component of the wall and sitting the curtain wall in front of it.

This two wall approach will be awkward at this stage when things are moving around quite a lot but it looks like it could be the way to go later on.

  6. First of all its worth noting Im at a relatively early stage of a project so walls etc. are likely to move around a fair bit.

So heres the thing; I need to show on the elevations + sections a wall cladding system made up of full height 600mm and 900mm wide cladding panels arranged in a random order.

I tried to accomplish this with a surface hatch applied to the walls but I can't get the randomness this way. Is my only option to draw lines on the faces of the walls or model individual panels? Both would be pretty annoying when it came to change the design around.

    Thanks for your time.

  7. Thats a real shame, I know Revit has a system in which the grid lines are basically invisible 3D planes running through the model and whenever they are cut they display grid lines and bubbles. Something like that would be ideal.

What is the general protocol then, add it to the annotations layer?

  8. So, Im sure this must have come up before but I have to ask anyway. Is there a reliable way to get gridlines in viewports?

I'm really hoping to not have to draw them in the annotations layer as this could lead to some serious inaccuracies. Something 3D in the model itself would be ideal.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks for your time.

  9. Hi Sharon,

As I understand it, the above recommendations should work if the hatches are 2d.

If they are part of 3d textures that you have applied to wall objects you will not be able to edit them individually in order to align them I'm afraid.

You will need to create a separate texture for each level and adjust one to make the line up. You do this by editing the texture, click edit surface hatch at the bottom left and adjust the x and y offset to suit.

    Hope this helps.

  10. Don't know if this has come up before but just a heads up; if you export a dwg whilst you have cropped DLVPs the export is very strange. It has extra layers and drawing offsets and becomes pretty useless.

Removing the crop on all DLVPs solves the problem. Just thought I would share what we have found.

    Thanks for your time.

  11. As above really, Im trying to detail over a section viewport in the annotations layer but can't stop going cross eyed looking at the hundreds of lines on show in wireframe render mode.

Is there a way to maintain hidden line mode when you edit the annotations layer?

How does everyone else deal with this problem?

    Thanks for your time.

  12. Hi Jim,

So a colleague of mine has started a second block for this project in a separate file with similar location settings and is having all kinds of graphical issues. i.e. the kind you would expect to see if it were too far from the origin.

With that in mind we will most likely move both model to the origin and manually position them in a site model. Can you advise on the least disruptive way to do this?

  13. So I accidentally pasted the objects into a template that had a similar origin set up but the objects appeared fine.

I then pasted into a blank template at 0,0 and the also appeared fine. But also the main model now seems to have cleared up, it sort of comes and goes. Could it be a memory problem perhaps?

Does the "Centre Drawing on Internal Origin" actually move the geometry to the origin?

  14. Sorry Jim, not sure I am permitted to share the file.

I was hoping it was something someone had come across before and there was a setting I should adjust. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case though.

  15. Hi Jim, thanks for the quick response.

    It happens only in OpenGL.

I have used the "centre drawing on internal origin" tool to bring all the geometry within a reasonable distance of the origin. Its is currently about 50m from the internal origin.

  16. So I have a problem with disappearing faces within this model. Its been present since I started and is really rather irritating.

The problem is this, every so often faces on extrudes, PIO and doors will become invisible. They are still there and simply editing the item in question appears to be enough to refresh it and bring back the faces. Its just a bit annoying and its now happening to a lot of items.

I have attached a screen shot to highlight the problem. Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks for your time.
