  1. I was having trouble getting 2D objects to appear in a viewport. I was using the standard method of create viewport from the view menu. No 2D objects were showing, then I tried again and it worked. I can't tell what I did different. Anyone know the magic that makes this happen?
  2. Christiaan, Can you explain this further?
  3. Henry, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not an architect, so I'm new to all of the walls and symbols stuff. I did kind of think of your solution on my own last night as I figured out how to make a cut out in a wall using a symbol that I created from an extrusion. I am very familiar with creating 3D objects, so I could create the window I need, but thanks for the offer.
  4. Jeffrey, Thanks. I'd say my windows are cottage style.
  5. Got the auto join turned off now. Thanks. So why is the length of a wall that's perpendicular and between two other parallel walls measured from the center of one parallel wall to the center of the other parallel wall instead of what the wall would measure in real life?
  6. I'm trying to draw oriel windows, at least that's the name given to them by the window installer. They are double hung windows where the sashes are not equal heights. My lower sashes are 2/3 the height of the entire window, and the upper sashes are 1/3. Is there a VW setting to change a double hung window to look like mine?
  7. Why is the length of a wall that's perpendicular and between two other parallel walls measured from the center of one parallel wall to the center of the other parallel wall instead of what the wall would measure in real life? Also, how can I stop a wall from auto joining as it touches another wall?
  8. tguy, Are you saying that I could draw each layer with a zero Z, and then change the Z's in the layer organization window so the layers would then "stack" correctly when I use stack layers? If so, this seems the easiest way to do this.
  9. Thanks for the help folks. I need to mess with my drawing and test some of the ideas presented in your responses. I am using Stacked Layers with my house drawing, so in that regard I know that using the appropriate Z value for each layer is necessary.
  10. So where does one typically start with a Z setting of 0"? Is that the top of the floor of the basement, or the top to main floor's floor, or somewhere else? I don't do this Architect stuff often, as you can tell! I've been learning by drawing my house. I'm not sure what's going on with my Z and Delta Z settings in my drawing, but I do see I set them both at minus 7'7-1/2" which is the height of the basement ceiling.
  11. Should I draw a 4" thick concrete basement floor inside or outside of the perimeter and interior walls? This is causing me trouble with setting the wall heights. I would think the block walls are outside of the poured floor, and the stud walls are set on top of the poured floor. How do I set the wall heights so the tops of the walls are in the same plane?
  12. Thanks Jeffrey. Half the length of the wall is furred with 2x2s, the other half is furred with 2x4s set the 3-1/2" way for depth. So do I break the wall in two and make each section with it's unique components, or is there a way to make this as one wall?
  13. I've drawn my house using VW. The basement walls are 12" block. During my remodel, I built 2" furred walls in part of the basement, and 4" walls to cover the block on other parts. I have windows and doors in the block walls. What's the best way to add the 2" and 4" components? I assume I need to split the block walls and add the different components to the split sections. Any other ideas?
  14. I ran my installer again and it gave me the option to install the libraries that I did not install during the initial install. It appears as though no change was made to my application or settings. Now I have all the libraries.
  15. Peter, I don't have Kohler folder on my drive. I believe it is on my install disk, but I don't want to reinstall my entire VW which is what it appears will happen when I run the installer. Is there a way to do a custom install of that library?
  16. I'm looking for more VW symbol plumbing fixtures than I seem to be finding with my VW Architect. I need a 30" x 60" tub and a 60" x 60" corner whirlpool tub. I've looked in the Defaults libraries with no luck. Where are they? Are there some resources on my install disks that don't get installed with the program?
  17. I work with sound on. The beep is Apple's system sound named "funk." I can't get it to beep now. I don't know why it does beep sometimes.
  18. Sometimes when I switch viewports my computer beeps. Any ideas why this happens? I wonder if VW is trying to tell me something.
  19. Pat, That's it! Thanks. I think I knew that once, but I forgot. If I only could remember all that I have forgotten!
  20. How do I increase the resolution of my viewport rendering? I have background rendering set to Final Quality RenderWorks, and foreground rendering set to Hidden Line, and it looks pretty chunky.
  21. Can someone please post a VW 2009 perspective view, hidden line rendered, EPS exported file, of a cube, sphere, hemisphere, cone, and cylinder. All objects on one page is fine. I just want to see how that file imports into FreeHand since I do a lot of that. Thanks. Mike M. sent me a test file and it worked fine. No more need for example files. Thanks Mike.
  22. Arliss, Thanks for the info. It happened again yesterday. I will take your suggestion about laying off Cocktail (the program, not the vodka... thank goodness!) I will check to see if Cocktail is changing the permissions. I've been using Time Machine to restore the previous uncorrupted workspace. That works nice. Could someone from Nemetschek tech support possibly chime in on this permissions business maybe causing my problems with my workspace?
  23. It's happened to me on 2 different computers, so I think that would eliminate the hardware as the problem.
  24. It happened again this morning. I restored to the correct location and that worked. The question remains... Why does this happen?
