I'm having a hard time manipulating door hardware in 2014 (not that I really understood it in 2013). In a file that I brought in from 2013, I would like to change a door knob. But the door hardware options are no longer listed where they used to be. I'm assuming this is some library organization issue? But there are a bunch of hardware "set" options that all seem to be empty. Any help would be much appreciated.

That was it. Thank you!

Hey again,
I am using grayed layers to show a little site context in a second floor plan. I seem to remember seeing something where you could adjust the gray level for gray layers (mine is currently pretty close to black). Am I making this up? I can't seem to find it. Thanks!!

I'm going to update today. I'll email you if I find this problem when creating another symbol. Thank you!!
-
It is selected. I can insert all of my other symbols (including the toilet) into the wall. Oh well I guess it's time for 2014. I am excited to try the oval window tool!
-
No. It's definitely not in the wall. Might have to update today if that's the case.
-
I'm not using the window tool because I need it to be an oval. Can you do this with the window tool?

I've seen tutorials on how to make window symbols, but I'm still having a hard time with an oval window. I have built the symbol how I want it, but it won't insert in the wall. Do I need to make a wall hole component? That doesn't work any of the ways I've tried (drawing the oval in elevation or the rectangle in plan) so surely I'm doing something wrong or missing a step. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thank you for the reply!
The only render mode I'm trying to use (sorry, I meant to mention this) is hidden line. The problem with the "render gray layers transparent" method in hidden line applications is that the transparency allows things that would be hidden (wall components for example) to show through.
Are there any other ways to do this in VW without reverting to 2D drawing??

Hi,
I am working on a guest house. I have modeled the existing home and the guest house, on separate layers. In the viewports, both plan and elevation, I would like to make the existing home show up as gray. I use class overrides all the time, but the layer overrides don't seem to work the same way. ThankS!

George K,
Out of curiosity, were you able to get what you'd intended for your RCP as far as no door opening/wall split? I continue to see the jamb lines in mine, and would really like to not.
-
Thank you Majic. It is helpful to hear others' methods.
I agree that the jambs are a problem. I've tried putting them on another class and turning them off in this view but that doesn't work. I'm definitely still confused by VW's class system.

The rectangles don't seem like that big of a deal but we don't really want to change the way our construction documents look, so I guess we will have to continue drawing these in 2d? Does anyone have suggestions? Can we cut the plan above the window/door heads?
-
It's on its way. Thanks.

Thanks, Jim.
It is on but it doesn't show any difference. Is there a specific part of my window that is meant to be in that class though?
-
Do I have to go in and edit the classes of all my window components?

I am hoping to create a ceiling framing plan from the walls from the floor plan. I am excited to have figured out how to manipulate the wall classes to show just the wall core in dotted lines. However, I need to get rid of the gaps that show up for windows and doors. They are currently on the none class, which is off in the viewport shown in this screenshot. When I turn it on, I get the whole window (minus the glazing). I just want to see the walls continue, as if they are being cut through above the headers. How can I achieve this? Thanks yall!!

Never would have figured that out. Thank you so much Peter!

I have a section viewport showing the elevation of a house, and I'm having trouble getting it to look right in hidden line mode. It shows the site model's triangles with bold lines beyond the cut plane. I have changed the 3d display and style with no results. I have also tried to use class or layer overrides but nothing changes when I update the viewport. The goal is to have just the top line representing the line of the highest ground on the site, and the cut line. Please see attached photo.

Hey yall,
I'm curious about this statement Neil made: "I notice on loading the pdf it renders all the components to all the walls behind the facing elevations (surely unnecessary?!?!)" mainly because I have the same problem, especially in hidden line plan exports. It is a simple roof plan with but it exports all the hidden information. I can't find a setting to stop this.

I am using symbols that we've had for years to create an electrical plan. I have recently learned how to create a worksheet showing images and names of all the symbols. However, that includes ALL of the symbols I have in my drawing, including trees, north arrow, etc. I have all of the electrical symbols on one layer. Is it possible, in VW 2013, to make a worksheet list symbols from only one layer?
I saw somebody say that VW 2014 has a much better worksheet system, but for now, is there a way to do this in 2013?

That's a bummer! Thank you for your help Vincent!

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but I'm trying to apply just one hatch to a roof object for presentation in a roof plan but I can't figure out how to get it to show up without the bearing line. Is that possible?
Door Hardware?

That's what I can't do. On this list (that I've attached), the only thing that actually shows hardware is "Current Hardware Set." With any other option selected, the hardware disappears in the preview.
There are door hardware symbols shown in my current file resource browser. They appear on other doors in the file. I can't even switch between those much less add a new hardware set.
