  1. Thanks, i agree with change the naming stucture and thats how we originally had it, we had to change it though becuase after we create the pdfs we put them into Dropbox so all the team can view them on there ipads when out and about, but in dropbox on the ipad you only get a short about of the file title shown about 20 chars, so we were ending up with a menu in dropbox looking like - The Grove - De... - The Grove - Fl... - The Grove - Se... - The Grove - Ho... and it was impossable to tell which files which..
  2. Ive just started using Architect (been using Fundamentals for years). The main reason ive changed is to take advantage of the bath PDF export option, as you can imagine exporting 30 pdfs individually is no fun.. What i cant work out is how to name the files so that when i use File > Export > Export PDF (batch) it will leave me with the correctly named PDF. Our file naming structure is : Drawing Name - Rev num - Project Name so they come out something like Decor Plan - 1.1 - The Grove So ive setup the sheet name like this But when i export it by going to File > Export > Export PDF (batch) > Select the sheets i want > Hit Export .. i get left with files named The Grove.pdf Whats the correct way to do this ? I was thinking of writing the full file name under the 'sheet title' section, but then id have to write the Project Name in on each sheet, i thought there would be an automated way to append that to the end of the file name, so all id have to write each time were the Drawing Name and the rev number... any ideas ?
  3. Some times we like to re organize our design layers, this causes a problem with the viewports as they dont move with the drawing so we end up left with viewports referencing blank parts of the design layer. Is there a way to get the viewports to move with the drawings in the design layer ?
  4. Is there a way to set callout boxs, and text to automatically go into the class 'text', in a similar way that dimension bars automatically go into the class 'dimensions' ?
  5. At the moment were running 2008 fundamentals w/ renderworks, were also currently trialing 2013 which we like and are going to upgrade to, I have noticed that the 2013 version we are using is the 'Designer' edition, ideally we'd like to just change to fundamentals 2013 (dropping the renderworks as we never use it), but theres a couple of features in 2013 that we really like, but i wasnt sure if they were be available in the 'Fundamentals' edition or just the 'Designer' edition The features are as follow : - Dimension chained constrained mode / constrained baseline mode - Being able to click into the dimension number to edit the dim bar - Hierarchical class mode - to order / nest classes - Batch pdf exporting... File > Export > PDF (Batch) - Navigation pallet (Windows > Pallets > Navigation) Are all / any of those features also available in the 2013 Fundamentals ?
  6. Ive recently installed vwx 2008 onto a mac without Rosetta, it took me a while to figure out so i thought id post it here in case any one else needed to do the same. vwx 2008's installer uses Rosetta, and since osx 10.7 this has not been supported on macs, lucky though the actual program itself runs natively without Rosetta, so as long as you can get the install done your fine.. My approach to this was to dig out an old mac running 10.6 or earlier, fully install vwx on there, install the latest service pack, then go to the application folder, and copy the 'vectorworks 2008' folder to a usb stick, then transfer that file onto the other machine, drag the 'vectorworks 2008' folder into the application folder on the new mac, and there you are, you should now be able to run vwx 2008 sp3 on your 10.7+ mac. Another approach would be to already have a 10.6 (or downgrade to 10.6) or or earlier machine (which was your main machine) install vwx on there, then upgrade the machine to 10.7 or 10.8 as its just the installer that needs to run using Rosetta. Hope thats helpful.
  7. Is there a way to easily print and/or pdf multiple sheets in one step, instead of having to go to each sheet and do file > print separately ? Also at the moment to pdf (on a mac) im going to file > print > pdf, is that the correct way using the inbuilt mac pdf printer (you can also download these for windows). Or should it be done under file > export ?
  8. Is there a simple way to select all objects of a class, im aware i could turn off all classes, turn on the one i want and then select it, but i was wandering if there was a quicker way ?
  9. Thanks, that the "missing link" i was looking for. If i get a drawing from someone else with say 100 classes already in it (non organised), whats the best way to reorganize them ? Would i have to go through and rename each one using the - syntax ? or can you sort / merge in a easier way ?
  10. Thanks Christiaan, i was just looking else were on the site and i came across this answer by you - http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=185954#Post185954 specifically this image, how did you manage to get proper layer names under Drainage (i think thats what it is) instead of just 1,2,3,4 ect ?
  11. Ive just upgraded to 2013 and im getting to grips with what looks like the most useful new feature - hierarchical display What i cant work out is if ive got a 'lighting' class with sub classes, how can i put more classes inside of it ? So far i can just duplicate the class 'lighting' as per the image below and the i get But when i try to rename 2, 3, 4 they leave the lighting class and form their own class. The other part of this im not sure how to do is add an existing class to another class, ie. as per the image below if i wanted to add 'lighting circuit A' to 'lighting' how would i do that ?
  12. Sorry ive just gone back to 2008 to try and find the issue, and it seems be my mistake, it works differently from how i remember it. But it brings up another question is it possible to duplicate a class's shapes when you duplicate a class, Instead of having to copy them and "paste in place" them into the new class ?
  13. Sorry i think that my wording might have been incorrect, when i say object i mean any shape - a square, a circle a group of squares and circles ect (is that correct ? i was calling them that because the panel that gives you more info on them is called object info.. ) What i meant to say in the question was when i duplicate a class (in the classes panel) i used to get all the shapes of the class also duplicated, but now when i duplicate the class only the class name is duplicated the new class its self is blank. Hope that makes sense cheers
  14. We've just moved from 2008 to 2013, and although there a several new features we seem to have made the switch pretty smoothly, the only thing we cant get our head around is when we used to duplicate a class in 2008 all the classes objects would also be duplicated. Now when we duplicate a class we just get a new class ie. "my class -2" but its just a blank class, with no objects inside of it. Any ideas how we can make it behave as it did previously ie. also duplicate the objects ?
  15. We've got 3 users running vwx 2008 fundamentals, we are about to add a 4th user but are updating that user to vwx 2013. We all share the files we work on, so one person might be doing the design, then the next viewing the drawings then issuing them for construction ect ect. So the drawings get passed around. Whats the best way to handle this so that we dont get an issue where 'this drawing was created with a newer / older version of vwx'. Ideally i dont want to have to save it as the newer / older version each time the drawing changes hands.
  16. Im running vwx fundamentals 2008, and some of our drawings are getting very class heavy, to the point were we are having to spend 5 minutes turning off tons of stuff to get the view we want. Coming from a Photoshop background, im aware you can put you classes (or in Photoshops case layers) in folders and then turn those folders on / off, at which point all of the folders children turn on / off. The grouped class structure could look something like this (below), so for instance with one click you could turn off 'Structural' and the walls, windows, doors classes would all turn off. Classes : Structural walls doors windows Furniture sofa chairs tables Notes / Dims dims construction notes decs notes Is this possible to do in Vectorworks either in fundamentals 2008 or later versions ?
  17. How can i change the serial number that i use for vectorworks ? Ive gone into Vectorworks > about (on mac) and come up with the following (image bellow), but the serial number is static, it cant be overtyped or changed, any idea how i can do this ?
  18. Is there a way to change a piece of selected text to all UPPER CASE or all lower case, in a similar way that you would change the whole block of text's font size, or colour ? If so can this also be done on the text in call out boxs ? - we are running fundamentals with render works 2008
  19. We use an L shape sofa symbol quite allot in our setting out drawings, normally with sofas we just change the object info to set the size, but with an L shape sofa, because its got two parts you want to be able to set the size for both of them, is there a simple way to do this ?
  20. Were currently using dongles for the license for our copies of vectorworks. We find them really irritating especially when using a laptop, for obvious reasons. Is there a way we can transfer our licenses away from the dongles to a normal serial number that checks against the internet each time you log in ? Background - we are running vwx 2008
  21. Im looking for a used vectorworks license (preferably from the uk). At the moment were using 2008 fundamentals which is fine for use so ideally we'd just be looking for an additional dongle. If any one has one which they'd like to sell please PM me. Cheers
  22. When you say referenced in one masterfile - do you mean that its just noted "please read in conjunction with drawing xxx" or is there a way to actauly reference it.. kinda like you do with hyperlinks linking one excel doc to another ..
  23. We have 3 designers all using vectorworks - at the moment all 3 designers are working on the same project. This presents a problem for us due to sharing drawings - we've resorted to have the drawings on a usb stick and who ever need the drawing uses the stick in their computer and edits the drawing. This is really unproductive as it means only 1 person can work on the drawing at a time, although it guaranty that who ever is using it is using the latest copy. Is there a industry standard / approach for working in a team were you all need access to the files ? We all use google docs in the office which we love as we call all dip into the same files, live. Is there something that can be done similarly in vectorworks ?
  24. We have made a template file with the following sheet layers - A1, A2, A3 these all also have corresponding template title blocks. But when in a drawing we go to sheet layers > new > import from template > pick the file > pick the template sheet layer we only ever get in the page with its print settings.. no title block.. Is there a way to get the title blocks to come in also ? Background - we use vwx 2008 fundamentals with renderworks
  25. When we get our files in from the surveyor they have a class called 'dimensions' which is fine. But when we draw our own dimensions no matter what the working class we are in they always go into the default dims class. Is there a way to change this so that they sit in the working class rather than default to a Dimensions class ? Background - we run vwx 2008 fundamentals with renderworks
