  1. In using this newer service pack update 4.1 I'm noticing the Snapping setting going off more often than normal. My default text setting are changing for some reason. I'm adding text with no issues, then starting the next test note, the font, size, bold, & alignment has changed. I have reset this many times & it keeps changing. Then this morning, I opened a file I have been working on all day & printing the 4 sheets with not problems, now is crashing just about each time I send a drawing to the printer. I have now sent a crash log to tech support & no re-installing an older service pac version.

  2. I also just realized that when cycling thru the different selection modes, which I made the "Q" keyboard key to cycle thru them, once it selects the new Transform mode, the 3D re-position mode stays on when selecting the Disabled Interactive mode. So now I have learned to select the unrestricted mode to turn the 3D re-position mode off. There needs to be a better way of turning this off. The reason I programed the "q" key to cycle thru is to reduce the number of clicks of the mouse & less hand movement.

  3. I just also found out with no object selected & selecting the "Disabled Interactive Scaling" & then double clicking on a blank area of the design layer the 3D dragger is automatically turning on. So I'm guessing the VW programmers really like this new feature & is making it the default setting for the selection tool?

After closing & re-opening VW it is now working like before, we will see how long this last.

  4. Now when I select the "Disabled Interactive Scaling" selection mode, to move a grouped objects this 3D dragger is turning on & getting in the way of centering grouped objects. I do not see why it is turning on with "Disabled Interactive Scaling" selected. there is no reason for it. I need to see if I can remove that feature in VW Preferences.

  5. I'm getting the same error message when exporting files to dwg. But I am able to open the dwg file with Autodexk TrueViewer with no problems. Only new update was with NVIDIA graphics card driver update I did this morning. But is also first time in exporting to dwg.

  6. Before when I would drag copy an object to the edge of my screen it would automatically move the  page in the direction I'm moving the copy to. But now it stops at the edge if I'm holding a constraint, so now I have to stop & change the zoom to move it where I want. Don't know if there is a new setting for this in VW2024.

  7. I'm having major delays after installing the service pack & even with the new 1.1 pack. Weird thing, after clicking the icon, either the short cut of program folder icon, it is taking 51.72 seconds before I see anything happening on my computer, then when seeing VW starting it them take a total of 2 minutes & 16 seconds to open fully.

VW2023 on this same computer starts to open immanently & takes 1 min, & 14 seconds to open fully.

I can not figure out why the delay of anything happening after clicking on the icon

  8. I'm having issues with long start ups. It is taking 52 seconds before any see any signs of VW starting to open after clicking on the Icon, then a total of 1 min. & 45 seconds to open fully to a default file. I'm going to start making my new default files in 2024 to see if that helps. If not then a new re-install

  9. Can the View Bar be customized?  I like the compact mode & with the PINed items I've turned off there is space available to make each are wider. Also can I rearrange the order of areas so I can move the Layers & Classes towards the left & Views towards the right?

Never mind Kevin, just got the continuous nurbs surface by using the loft tool, totally forgot about using it, now trying to get your image on it.  Thanks

Now I was able to get your image on the continuous nurbs surface at 20' ht. So I can see playing the the image input size & the rendering Mapping setting to get the correct position. Attached is my file showing the continuous nurbs surface & your textured image. Thanks again for the help!

Kevin, attached is your file with my tries in creating a nurbs surface from a extruded rounded rectangle. I've tried many other ways but kept getting separate nurb surfaces for each radius/curves area & flat areas, not continuous. But I  was able to split a curved rectangle & make a extrude with the curved part at each end for this is what we are going to use because to 360 one would be to expensive. With this extrude I was able to apply your textured image on the surface including the curved ends.

But still would like to know how you created the continuous nurbs surface that you sent me, that I can not make happen. So attached here is your file with my extrude with image & a rounded rectangle that is were I have been starting from for you to show/explain how you got to the continuous nurbs surface.

    Thanks!

Everything is easy when you know how to do it 🙂.  Either program can make short work if this task without technical difficulty.  Post the file, the desired texture. And a sketch of your intended outcome.  This will make it easy for one of us will help you out.

alternatively, there are lessons on Vectorworks University which will show you how.

Jeff, do you remember the name of the VW University lesson for this? I've searched each one last night & still can not find anything for this. Thanks

@Dubman yeah, you can't extrude a nurbs curve directly.

What may prove to be easier for me to explain, is if you could upload your file in a 2022 version and I can sort things out for you, with some explanations...That possible? You can send it to me in a message if you don't want to post it here directly on the forum.

Yes Kevin, the file is on my office computer so first thing Monday morning I'll send it VW2022 version in a message to you. I know there has to be a way, I'm just not seeing it. Thanks!

@Dubman...This can be achieved 🙂. You do need to do some quick math so the texture repeats correctly on the image and configure the Object Info data correctly as well.

I created something close to what you showed in your earlier post, with a sort of rounded rectangle shape....

So....here we go...I attached a 2022 version file so you can better see how this was done.

    322973398_Screenshot2023-02-24at5_12_01AM.thumb.png.cd1520575d0c29a34d3efa94c0828871.png

If If you extract a nurbs curve from the top, or bottom of the shape you will get the overall length of that curbs curve.

In this case you can see the length of the nurbs curve is about 80 feet....

Then, in choosing the image to map to the surface, configure the length widget feature size to match the overall length of the nurbs curve....again in this case, about 80 feet...this way you won't get any overlap from the repeating texture..

** Make sure to use the texture mapping using the 'Surface UV' option...all the other mapping options don't seem to work very well.

Also, you will need to mess with the mapping options a bit...meaning the image may come in upside down and not mapped correctly vertically, etc, but you can sort that out in seconds from the OIP.

    There ya have it!

Kevin, what I'm having problems with is VW will not allow me to extrude an nurbs curve into a nurbs surface. VW tells me There were objects selected that were locked or  are illegal in extrudes and sweeps. I was fighting this before. I started with a rounded rectangle & then converted it to a nurbs curve, but then could not get it to extrude. So I must be making the nurbs curve wrong.  How did you extrude the nurbs curve? I understand the image sizing more now. Thanks

  16. Update, Jeff I could not find anything in Vectorworks University on this when searching for it but will keep looking since you say it is there. Thanks.

Elite Exhibits, no it does not repeat  its self, I actually have 2 different photos the Designer was having me place on the backing object to see how much backing we need from looking out the windows in a set house model.

Before I could try anything mew the production manager saw what we were doing & said no way could they afford a 360 backing, so we are no looking a 2 or 3 different backing locations & from my model had enough info to determine the lengths of each for the windows we will see out of to match the exterior location. But I will be searching the VW University for the tutorial & applying Kevin's info so I can learn how to do this in the future.

    Thanks again to you all!

  17. Thanks Pat, that is what I figured out too, just can get the image sized correctly as a texture & apply it on the continuous nurbs surface.  So at least I can get it on the flat areas. Sad thing is others in my office that are SketchUp users say how easy it is to do after I told my boss VW is like Sketchup on steroids.

    Screenshot 2023-02-24 080802.png

  18. I'm trying to add a photo image to a 16' radius by 20' ht. surface which was made from an extruded radius line. I can add the image to a rectangle between the radius ends. No where in VW Help is there anything about applying images to object on what type of object it need to be or how to add to a radius object.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  19. Update, today I started working at a production office with everything the same with this computer. Using their Wifi & printer, same crashing happens with VW SP3.

So I'll have to use VW 2022 until I can figure something out. VW 2022 SP6 prints with out crashing.

Have not gotten any replay from the 2 service select Support request forms sent.

  20. Update - completely uninstalled Vectorworks even every VW 2023 in the registry. Then downloaded the latest version & installed. Right after installing I opened a file & printed to my HP 7740 by Wifi. This time it made it thru the full printing & the curser turned to the busy curser, then back to normal. but the print dialog window was still open. So I clicked into a blank area of the screen & Crash! No warning just closes fast.

Before re-installing I tried printing from an older file & got same result, crash.

Go figure, I've just got a contract job that will last 8 months & hoping I can get this resolved before I start.

So far no reply from Service Select

Update - every time I run the VW installer repair for SP2 it keeps installing the 32 bit version & my computer is 64 bit, so not an option. Then I found in my download folder VW 2023 SP1 from my other computer, copied it into this computer, installed, same crash results.

Then I opened VW 2022 SP5 and it prints fine to both printers, so with my office computer I'll need to use VW 2022 instead of the 2023 version.
