  1. UPDATE:

Still not working correctly in this file, but i have now got it working in another file, i tried copying the element with the decals into the original file but they all disappear from view (although still there in the obj info palette), but the overall texture stays in place.

Is there a setting that hides Decals? or is this likely to be a file specific / program bug?

  2. Yes Alan, that's the one recommended by rDesign at the top, seems straight forward which is why i can't figure out what the problem is.

There must be an issue with the Attribute mapping tool or my installation of it, i've just tried in a new file, creating a wall applying a texture and adding a 'Decal', this time it worked-ish but then the background texture is stripped out in favour of a plain white.

Here's images showing the view with the Attribute Mapping tool on and off...

  3. Ok, having fiddled further with this, i have got the image to display, but only when the Decal 'part' is selected and i click on the attribute mapping tool - i can adjust it, but once i exit the attribute mapping tool the image disappears, have tried removing the base texture but no difference.

Is there a way to bring the Decal to the front or a stacking order?

  4. Unfortunately not the case, i have 'Left Decal' selected and the correct texture applied to that, as is created when going through the 'Add Decal' process - even if i start with the left face selected

  5. I have been having a major nightmare trying to get an image to display on a wall using the 'add decal' function.

Have watched videos and found another post (https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthr...true#Post209151) explaining it, but the Decal won't appear on my vertical wall face - it will appear on the top edge of the wall but not the vertical.

I'm sure it's something to do with the mapping types, but not sure what.

I have managed to apply it as a texture to a wall face but that's no good as i need to apply several images and the walls have doors and windows so using an extruded surface over the top is not an option.

The video showed a 3D attribute mapping tool which made this easy to drag the texture from one face to another - does this still exist somewhere?

  6. I've got a scene - a restaurant with lots of chairs and tables, pretty regular grid system of 'point' lights in the 3.2m high ceiling above and a few pendant 'point' lights but it's all looking a bit flat and the shadows are very subtle.

How can i get a bit more drama into the scene? Spot lights? Angles of lights? reflectivity of finishes? Less lights? any suggestions gratefully received

  7. I've just created a 3d light symbol with a point light source in, when i've duplicated the symbol across the space and render in open GL only approx 6 of 50 render with a light source. Any ideas ho w this might be?

Same thing is happening with other light symbols in the drawing

  8. Does anyone know why VW would keep re-rendering? I wait 30-45 mins for a final render and then when finished it begins again automatically, it did this 3 times in a row this morning (before i cancelled it) and i don't know why.

Would it be something to do with the display sleeping and what key is used to wake it?

  9. Can anyone advise me how i may achieve back lit lettering effect for the signage on the front of a shop.

I've tried applying an 'emit light glow' texture to the rear face of the letters and some reflectivity to the surface behind but get nothing at all

  10. I don't seem to be able to get the lighting right or something isn't working right!

In open GL my scene renders fine with nice dramatic shadows, but when i do a final render it seems very flat and with no shadows as if the light elements are not working.

Any ideas why this may be?

  11. Yes, i understand the process of drawing everything in 3D then create your sections and plans from the 3d model, this is how i am starting to work now, but i'm more interested in what's is the most efficient way of working so i don't have to keep going back and changing objects once i hit a stumbling block.

I have again come across another example to illustrate my point:

I am drawing a shop front, wall tool for the wall and windows all fine, but the doors do not conform as it the same frame detail as the window but the glazed doors extend beyond the frame to the ground unlike the windows which don't reach the ground so can't be done using the inbuilt tools (as far as i can see). I've then created this entrance element as a bespoke 3d element, but now i can't insert it into the wall, and i don't know of a way you can punch a hole in the wall unless it's an extruded shape and not a wall.

    Here's a pic of what i've done:
