I have had a similar problem. The master file has randomly shifted location, so when I reload the references (including survey file with correct location), the content of the master file is stranded far, far away in space. I have an entire drawing set of sheets in the master file, and now the viewports on every single sheet are empty and must be recreated. This is absolutely unacceptable performance from Vectorworks. If anyone can help, I'll be most grateful. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. In the meantime, I spoke with VW tech support, and they had me do the following: 1) turn off quartz imaging, change 2d conversion res to low, change default compression to JPG 2) update to SP 2 3) send them my system profile 4) re-boot in safe mode 5) turn quartz imaging back on, change 2d conversion res to high The problem seems to be solved now.

Thanks for the suggestions, Will. No, this is not new - it has been a chronic problem since I started using VW about 5 months ago. Hmmm, "repairing permissions"? - not sure what that means, but I'll look into it.

Whenever I attempt to switch between different files (EVEN BRAND NEW, COMPLETELY EMPTY FILES), there is a very long lag time (like 30 seconds). I'm experiencing other bugginess, crashes, slowness too, but this is the biggest drag on productivity. Any suggestions? THANKS.

YES! Slow performance, frequent crashes, general bugginess - serious drag on productivity!

Thanks! Yes, I figured out changing the hatch color and removed that part from my original post. Still wish it were easier & less convoluted to edit hatches though! Too bad about patterns. They look cool (some).

PATTERNS with no background.

Thanks, All. My polyline is 40' long. Offset distance is 15'. The drawing has a few references (survey, arch plans). I tried copy/paste into new file and it offsets there (good suggestion!). Turning off snaps didn't seem to help, but thanks anyway.

Please help: I cannot offset a polyline! I select a polyline, click 'offset' (by distance mode), and click to either side of the polyline. I always get the message "cannot offset. choose another offset value." Offset by distance does work for lines, circles, etc., but not polylines. Many thanks to whomever can help.

Two questions re PATTERNS and HATCHES: 1) How can I create a pattern with no background? 2) How can I create a hatch that is NOT based on an existing hatch? I am trying to create a simple dot hatch -- black dots, no background -- for a diagram. Thanks!
