  1. ... due to lack of memory. After working for a few minutes in this file i get the error message "One or more operations was aborted due to lack of memory". I fear the file has become corrupted some how since this problem happens after a cold boot. The message repeats itself after almost every operation allowing me to work as long as I close the error message box. I have not experienced this on a constantly recurring basis before and never while working in plan view. Please advise. System info: Dual 2.2 ghz xeon processors 2 Gigs Ram Wiondows XP Pro Radeon 128 Mbts 9700 Pro Thanks in advance.
  2. another problem may be your video card -- I don't know macs very well but I have built enough PCs to know enough to be dangerous Ensure you video card is properly seated it also may have been damaged by static during sloppy assembly it could also be overheating -- ensure vents are clean and all fans are working you mouse should scroll if properly configured. good luck
  3. Joining wall cavities & dimensioning I am using wall cavities for the first time in a set of working drawings in order to dimension to the face of stud (in situations where there are significant gyp. and stucco thicknesses) Does anyone know either how to? 1. join wall cavity lines in a ?T? or ?X? type intersections and/or 2. know of a work around besides using small filled polygons to hide the unwanted lines. Thanks in advance.
  4. Sorry... 10.5.1 (the most recent) on Windows xp pro with architect and renderworks installed [ 02-24-2004, 04:20 PM: Message edited by: Vitanaut ]
  5. what is your end goal? do you want images in perspective or simple elevations? follow this URL to see an example of a model I did for the same situation http://www.x3z.com/iberian.htm
  6. Thanks Katie. HP acknowledges that this issue is on their side. They have no fix however... [ 02-03-2004, 04:44 PM: Message edited by: Vitanaut ]
  7. Why does the printed area change in size when shifting between Portrait and Landscape orientation? In Portrait mode the printed area is at least an inch wider than in landscape. i.e. Landscape 36.6" x 22.7" Portrait 34.7" x 23.6" Under Print Setup nothing else changes. The Paper size Arch "D". The Page print area Setup "One Page" remians the same. Thanks in advance.
  8. Select area by "current view" or "marquis" in the menu under Export/Image. Hope this helps. Greg
  9. Does anyone know of a Construction management Software package that has a cost estimating module compatible with Vectorworks?
  10. Bclydeb, Thanks for the input. I am surprised by your argument however. For every software subroutine and macro ever developed there was an ?old school,? solution that, at one time, was more cost effective. If people followed this line of reasoning we would still be using lead holders. Your argument was used when someone first tried to put a photo in a drawing. Until the function is demanded it will never exist Don?t make excuses for a program?s shortcomings. That goes for VW or any other program. My investment in this software is for the long term. Rest assured, in 18 months PDF will be in the pull down menu for importing objects. There are leaders and followers -- those with vision, who don?t know ?no,? and those who think they know and often say ?no.? All this discussion got me thinking... A relatively quick work around is to convert the PDF in photoshop to a JPG and import it as usuall. A 30 second process... [ 08-01-2003, 11:35 AM: Message edited by: Vitanaut ]
  11. Thanks Kevin. Without the full version of Acrobat though the only sure way I know is to print the PDF scan it and then paste it as an image file. At least a five minute process -- not acceptable. Any other ideas? Come on all you Power users.
  12. Can (and if so, how) a PDF file can be imported into a drawing? A lot of suppliers are using PDFs for their online tear sheets. Can anyone think of a simpler way to get the information in the drawings? Thanks in advance, Greg Vitanaut@comcast.net
  13. Anyone know of a way in VW to create the following (similar to edit mesh in 3dMax, transform bend, twist)? I want to turn up one corner of an extruded polygon. Imagine a paperback book lying flat and what it would look like if you were to bend up and lift one corner? Lofts? Nurbs? Multiple extrudes? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. What's the easiest simplest way?
  14. Does VW crash immediately when clicking on the shortcut, or does the application window start to draw, then crash- or does it crash when you go to open a file? Immediately. The second time you launch VW, when it works, are you launching it the same way you are when it doesn't work? The same way. Can you restart the machine and then start VW from the VectorWorks.exe in the VW 10 folder and have it work? No. The situation is resolved -- I did a System Restore (Yeah, Win XP Pro!!) to a month ago and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help.
  15. To clarify. The first time I start VW after turning on the machine it crashes. The second time it works fine except for a significant lag in the menus. I use a shortcut in the task bar in all cases and have for years. Thanks in advance. [ 02-25-2003, 05:19 PM: Message edited by: Vitanaut ]
  16. Every time I start VW I get a c++ runtime error and the program closes automatically. When I restart the program it behaves normally but there is a long delay every time I access a menu. System Info VW 10.0.1 (still waiting for 10.1) Windows XP Pro Dual 2.2 Xeon processors 2 Gigs Ram
  17. That was not the issue. Any other ideas??? Anyone, anyone, Beuller???
  18. Great idea (wish I'd thought of it) I do have my 3D video accelerator maxed out. I'll give it a try. Thanks
  19. Turning off auto save had no effect. IT seems to happen when I am online and drawing simple 2d shapes. Very frustrating. Also, I was in the process of moving VW10 from my Laptop to my desktop (Yes, one license was actually installed on more than one machine for a brief time) When interestingly, after shutting down and starting again (while both machines were connected with a crossover cable) Vector works 10 uninstalled itself (with no warning or other indication) After several attempts at first uninstalling and then reinstalling I got things working again but that's when the freezing started. I would gladly pay for another seat if there would be some kind of guarantee that it would reliably work. Oh, Did I mention that quite often (It just happened -- I am editting this post ten minutes later) I get a C++ runtime error when I try to change the color of a selected object. My system again: Win XP Pro Dual P4 Xeon 2.2 Ghz Processors, 2 G Ram, Dual monitor with a Radeon 8500 Video card. I am glad i am still within that 30 day period... 20. I really appreciate all of the thoughtful responses. After several experiments I discovered that the problem is diectly related to certain files. (Due to corrupt vector objects????) If anyone else is experiencing this I would like to confirm my hypothesis by having them open an old file that was OK. See if it happens. I now have a new set of issues to deal with in VW10. 21. VW 10 is freezing my machine. (PC WIN XP Pro Dual 2.2Ghz and 2G ram) anyone else experienceing this. It happens about fifteen minutes into the program. Set to default 20 undos.
  22. Katie, Thanks for the message. This problem occurs when my processor usage is below 25%. i.e. nothing running in the background. The file size can be very small (less than a meg) and it still happens. The only way to speed things up is to restart VW. I am not using any Nurbs and no solids. Just very bacsic 3D objects and walls. Any other ideas? [ 10-14-2002, 12:05 PM: Message edited by: Vitanaut ]
  23. Hello all, I am running VW 9.5.2 on Windows XP Pro and up everything has been great with the exception of a few crashes (one per three hours of Up time) a lot by most standards but livable. My machine is a Dual Pentium 4 2.2 Ghz with 2Gigs of Ram and a 4gig page file. It renders like the wind but lately the program slows to a crawl after about 20 minutes of use. I have undos set to 30 (reasonable I think --and used often). Everything points to a bug. Any suggestionis? There seems to be a problem in specific .mcd files? --Greg
  24. How about a wayt to interupt/cancel a rendering operation. More than once I have opted to reboot rather than wait for something to render.
