When I move them it changes their 3d orientation so the front of the light is no longer facing me, and I can't move the ones on the legs because I can't find where they go when I switch to front view. Also when I render it, it will only show which ever layer I have active, even though I have them all turned on and have it set to show/modify others. I just don't understand what I am doing wrong. It seems like this should be really simple. Thanks again for all your help!

Thanks! I can now see all of the truss, but the lights are still way below it. And even though I can now see all of the legs of the truss, I can't see the lights on those legs. The only lights that are showing up are the one ones across the top of the truss. I have attached 2 pdfs. The top plan is what it is supposed to look like. The second one, titled strange lights, is what is happening when I switch to front view. See how the lights disappear? How to I get them to be in their respectful place on the truss? Thanks!!

Hi! I have drawn a truss with some lights on it and would like to render it but am running into a couple of issues. To get a picture of what I am doing, the truss is 100' long, and 20' in on each side are two 20' legs that hang down. I have S4 Pars along the top and along each leg. Here are the issues I am encountering. 1. When I click to view from front view, all I get is the 100' truss and lights along it. The legs are nowhere to be seen. Do I need to virtually "attach" them to the corner block somehow? 2. When I look at it in front view, my lights are down below the truss, even though they are drawn on the truss. There are what look like intersecting lines of green, blue and purple and that is where the lights have ended up and the truss is way above them. 3. When I render it, I lose the truss altogether and just have the lights along the top truss, still nothing from the legs. What am I doing wrong? Would greatly appreciate any help anyone could give me on this. Thank you!

Hi Vincent, I had previously seen the post that you provided the link to earlier but still didn't understand. I realize this is probably very simple but it just doesn't make sense to me. If I have the scale at 1:1, why then when I drop in a truss symbol is it way bigger than the PDF? I really just need someone to sit down and show me this but I don't have that opportunity. I am in desperate need of some help with scaling. I have searched the forum for answers but I don't really understand the technicality of it. This is something that I just can't seem to get my brain around. I guess I also don't understand the difference between what it looks like on screen and what actually prints out. Here is what I am currently trying to do: I have a PDF that I want to get into my drawing. When I measure the lengths of things on the PDF it seems like the scale is something like 1"=36.5'. When I make my layer this scale, it makes it sooo tiny that I have to zoom in like crazy just to see it. Am I doing this correctly? I am afraid that when I go to print it out it will be so tiny you can't see it. Do I need to adjust the scale in a viewport? Will that affect the actual scale? Also, because the scale so small, any symbols or say, truss I put into my drawing are like 3 times the size of the PDF. How do I get these to be the same scale as the drawing? Do I have to do "scale object" for every single thing I put in. I would really appreciate anyone who could explain this to me like I am 3rd grader, because clearly the synapses are not firing for this particular subject. Thank you!! Also I seem to be encountering an issue when I render. I am using the open GL. I start off in my projection view, but then when it renders, it seems to go away from that view and all I get is a large beige looking rectangle. Any thoughts on what is happening here? Lindsey Vectorworks 2011 for Mac

That worked great! I don't know why it wont let me preview but once I skipped that step it let me do it just fine. I just can't figure out how to really change the angle. I am trying to create an orbital animation of my drawing, but I can't get the animation to work. I hit preview and it just blips and then nothing. This is my first time trying to use this feature and it seemed pretty self explanatory when I looked under the help section but clearly I am missing something. It is not locked as I tried clicking on unlock and nothing new happened. I cannot select it even when using force select. When I scroll over it, it kinda becomes orange like it is highlighted. i didn't do the drawing originally, so I don't know if the title block was drawn using VW Drawing Border. Is there a way to tell that? I haven't used this version before and I haven't used actual VW in a while, so thank you for your help and patience. Lindsey

My layer and class options are set to Show/Snap/ Modify others. I can edit everything except for the title block. Any thought as to what might have happened to that to make it un-editable? Thank you for your help. Lindsey

Hi, I have a file that was created in VW 10, that was opened in VW 2011. I cannot seem to edit anything in this file now. I have made sure all the layers and classes are turned on, but still it says object are unable to be edited. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thank you!! Lindsey
