  1. I have never done that before. Could you elaborate? Thanks! Edit: Figured out how to make a focus point, but it is really tedious to have to do that to like 50 lights when I just want them to point up. Also I can't figure out how to hide the focus point symbol (don't see it over in classes) so then I end up with a bunch of little focus point symbols all over my drawing. Is there a better way possibly to do this? Thanks!
  2. Hi all, I am trying to use a Par 38 symbol to show uplighting around a room. However I cannot get the symbol to orientate correctly in 3D. I can't get it to have the base on the ground and point straight up. I have played around with every rotation I know about, but I can't figure it out. I can get it to point straight down, but not straight up. Seems like all I would have to do it change to the 3D rotation 180 deg, but when I do that it doesn't work like I think it should. Is there something I am missing? Thanks!
  3. When I use the flyover tool, I can only manipulate one layer at a time, when I need all of them to act in 3D together. Is there a way to get all my layers to behave together? Thanks!
  4. Nevermind, found it! I guess I have to use the truss tool as opposed to the symbols that come with Vectorworks. Appreciate the help!
  5. Is there a way to say that I would like object A to be x-distance from Object B and have it do it automatically without me having to measure it? Thanks!
  6. Where do I find the hanging angle? All I can find is the rotate angle. Thanks!
  7. I have attached two screen shots to hopefully illustrate what I am trying to do. I am drawing a truss plot, and in 3D I want to be able to view the legs of the truss standing up, but I don't know how to do that. Can someone possibly show me the step that I missing here? Thanks so much!
  8. I know this post was a while ago.. but I just found it and now I need to know how what to do with the symbol once you get it? I can't figure out how to get into my library and have access to it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Hi there, I am trying to draw a stage plot with some truss, but I can't figure out how to draw it so it is correctly viewable in multiple views (top/front/right etc). In top view I would think that the truss would only look like a square since it would be extruded down, and then in from front view you would be able to see the whole stick of truss. But I can't figure out how to do this. Maybe I have things confused but could really use some help. I could sketch out what I am trying to do if that would help anyone. Thanks!!
  10. Thank you. How do I find out what units the DWG is in?
  11. I am trying to import a .dwg file, but I can't get the scaling to work out. I have click don even single size possible and none of them work. The drawing is either gigantic or way to small, and then when I try and drop symbols in they are the totally wrong size as well. I usually don't have any issue with PDFs, but the .dwg is making it difficult. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
  12. Here are two screen shots so you can see what is going on. Thanks!
  13. Ok, I cannot figure this out. I tried making a texture but I cannot figure out how to apply it, plus it looks like it is tiled, which is not what I want. I have been trying to figure this out in VW help, but it is anything but helpful. I have now spent hours on this seemingly simple project and am getting so frustrated Could someone please act like I am a 5 year old and walk me through this, because clearly I am missing some vital step that I should just know, but clearly don't. I really really appreciate the help here, but I am stuck by own lack of knowledge of certain things that I am sure would make this process go by so much easier. Teaching myself VW is rather difficult and slow going (yes, I would take classes if they were affordable). I think my client is just going to have to use their imagination on this one as I have hit a wall and can't seem to get around it. Thanks again for your help guys. I will try this again at a later date, but for now I have other projects I have to get finished today.
  14. Benson, In regards to the layers, the setting for Show, Snap, Modify Other Layers is not in fact, allowing me to modify other layers. I still have to go up and select each individual layer if I want to modify them. For example, I have each box on a separate layer (I am sure there is an easier way but it is the only way I could get them to sit on top of each other) and let's say I need to move them all up a few inches on the screen. Normally I could just select them all with the Show, Snap, Modify Other Layers on, but it is not letting me. I have to select each layer and shift each box up individually. This is not the first this has happened where suddenly I don't have control over the layers like normal, so I am not sure what is happening to cause it. I will try making my images a texture and seeing how that works. Thanks very much for the input.
  15. Peter, Forgive my ignorance, but are you saying I would need to draw the images myself? That seems a bit difficult. There is no way to just convert the image file to 2D polylines? Basically I have just imported JPGs, and if I had to try and draw them myself as 2D polylines it really would not look very good. Any thoughts as to why my layers are acting strange?
  16. Cannot seem to figure out how to make the image 3D. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks.
  17. Thanks Peter. I don't know how to attach a file here otherwise I would and show you the logo. But they are basically just silhouettes of cheerleaders doing various jumps. Nothing too crazy. I will attempt to make them 3D. As for the layers, it is weird as I have it set to Show, Snap, Modify, but it won't even let me modify the other layers. Not sure if I accidentally click some weird setting I am unaware of....
  18. Hi there, I am have three boxes that I have stacked on top of each other and I want to put logos on each side of the boxes. How to I attached the image files to the boxes so that when I change the view on them the images rotate with the boxes and don't just end up lost in space? Also, when I render, how do I render all layers at the same time? Thank you!
  19. Hi There, I have a projector in my drawing and there is a particular image I want to project, but I cannot figure out how to create this new image from my .jpg file and save it in my VW library. Can anyone help me with this? I would give you all my computer specs but I am at work and don't really know them. I believe I am on MAC with OS 10.6.8, Vectorworks version 2011. Thanks!
  20. In the attached file is what it looks like when I am in a right isometric view. My truss looks like it is on the floor, When really it should be standing upright. Should I have drafted it in Front view as opposed to top view?
  21. Ok, found the lights. They were stacked on top of each other. It think the issue lies with the 3D portion of the truss. I notice if I go to an oblique cavalier 45 projection view, the angle of the truss does not change, it is still flat. You can see it in the PDF, the legs just show up as lines in the front view. Any thoughts as to why?
  22. Thanks Teresa! Will give that a try. Am hopefully going to be taking the Vectorworks classes during their next session.
