  1. OK. We trashed Norton at the server-level, in favor of Trend Micro PC Cillin. Cost is 0 for 30 days. Then it's $30 +/-. This has ended our issue, but I'll bet that Nemetschek will be struggling with this unless they can get Norton to address the problem. We decided against freeware, thinking that an actual company would have the best commitment to the updating of virus protection. [ 04-07-2006, 04:32 PM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  2. Nate, Thanks. This suggestion doesn't seem to work after trying the fix at the local and at the server level. (You didn't say if both locations needed to be addressed.) Also, I assume There is a missing step four: Turn off VW. We do not have Norton Internet Security installed. I would still like to know if this issue has been replicated within your tech group, or are we just testing others' suggestions who aren't VW users.
  3. Is it possible that the people I've been in contact with at Symantec are wrong? Has anyone actually found a fix, or are they assumptons that we are hearing in this discussion group? How prevalent is the problem? Is it limited to Norton Antivirus 2006 and some recent virus definition, XP server, and VW v12.0.1? I would assume that the Nemetschek people are very concerned with this, since each app sold, and expecially each new sale, may be unable to work on a network that has antivirus protection. 4. Yes, Identical 'fixes' were done on both the server and on the Vectorworks computer. And I spent several hours with Norton chat, and just got off the phone, live. Verdict: Turn off internet worm protection. There is no fix. An option is to get different antivirus protection, which, if it's doing its job, would behave as Norton does. Another is to stop the VectdorWorks network pinging. The latter seems to be the most expedient solution. [ 04-06-2006, 03:12 PM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  5. Nate, If only it were as 'simple' as that. Installed VW on the server. Set Antivirus to permit VW. Still, the server blocks my computer. [ 04-06-2006, 09:35 AM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  6. I spoke too soon. The .exe file resident on the server seemed to be working, but didn't. A call to VW tech support was of little value, except to acknowledge that there is a conflict between Norton Antivirus and VW. A chat with Norton ended by having me do a three-hour online scan, which proved nothing. Two rules to permit VW did nothing. It seems that if VW is aware of the issue, then it would be wise for them to share with us users the workaround. Otherwise, we must stop using either VW or Norton, and you can guess that it is unlikely that Norton will be one abandoned. Assistance would be very much appreciated.
  7. I can confirm that it is VW that is causing the server to block access, at least on our system. But, with all due respect, you could say that Norton is causing it. This apparantly all started with a new virus definition that somehow defines VWs pings as an internet worm. You can put a copy of the VW.exe file anywhere on the network server, and ask Norton to permit it, and the blocking and internet worm messages go away (knock on wood). Let's hope that Nemetscheck doesn't regard this as a license violation. [ 04-04-2006, 08:05 PM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  8. Christian, I don't work with Michael. We are having Norton worm warnings on a number of machines and with the VW machine being cut off from the server. But, this morniong I have yet to fire up VW, and have yet to be cut off from the server. Maybe getting warm? George H., The only thing I can think to do is install the VW .exe file on the server so that it can recognize it. The server can't access my program file folder over the network, because of an apparent Windows inability to share the Programs file folder over the network. This suggestion hasn't been mentioned, so I don't know how otherwise to block VW (if that is, indeed, the problem). I'll keep you posted. [ 04-04-2006, 12:03 PM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  9. Christian, Please look at my enrty just before yours. On a PC network, program files on client machines aren't accessible by the server, since, the message says, the program folder can't be shared, because it contains system files. Therefore, without installing VW on the server, is it possible to block VW from the server?
  10. Well, yes, but then you have a lot of one liners. Maybe there's a way to consolidate text that has eluded me...
  11. Is it possible to sever the Keynote database relationship so that the Keynotes are simply text? I want to take these notes and consolidate them remote from the drawing on which they occur.
  12. To allow (or block) VW with Norton, the server has to browse for it. If VW isn't resident on the server, and it can't access program folders on networked computers, how can VW be identified?
  13. And the Right-Click preferences toggle doesn't work?
  14. Set the plug-in parameters, and used the eyedropper tool, and then the option eydropper paste tool, and the window picks up the fill color, but none of the parameters. File being emailed. Thanks for the quick response.
  15. I should have refreshed too. Interestingly, setting the eyedropper preferences almost picked up the parameters, but not quite - it left off one of the sills. (It's difficult to tell which is interior and which is exterior.) Fiddling with the parameters fixed the problem. The only other issue is that applying the eyedropper parameters caused each of the windows to flip it's position, so that I had to go back to each window and flip it one or more times. 16. I have 15 or twenty PIO windows created in v11.5, all the same, and am now trying to edit them, because some of the lines are missing (jamb returns), and when exported to AutoCad, the drawing looks incomplete and a bit inept. (Sill class is on and Ceiling class is off.) Now in v12.0.1, I've tried editing a window, and after much clicking and trial and error, the window looks sort of ok, but not perfect. This is not a construction document, and the windows are existing conditions so they just need to look correct. Here's the question: With one in a 'sort-of-ok' condition, is there a way to dublicate the settings from one window to the next twenty?
  17. Ion, I agree, and I have been harsh.
  18. ionw, Showing the door jambs in the RCP isn't wrong. Naturallly, you ought to be able to do anything you want. It's just that RCPs are way down the list of things that would logically drive graphic defaults. You gotta agree with that (even if you are from CA). No way is exactly the right way, we just ask that it be made KISS.
  19. Is this published somewhare, or is it left to the user to figure this one out, trial and error?
  20. RGyori, I hadd not thought of that, but none of the break settings eliminate the wall/threshold lines. jnr, turn off the sills class and the door swing disappears! We should all send personal emails to Robert Anderson about this, because of some arcane connection he thinks doors have with reflected ceiling plans. I can't fathom the logic, but it appears that NNA knows better than the architects they serve. I've given up on that one, but would like to figure out how to get rid of the sill/threshold lines (since they don't always exist, and tend to graphically confuse the drawing).
  21. Wow! ArchiCad is even worse?
  22. I've blown yet another 30 minutes trying to eliminate the threshold lines from a door inserted into a schematic-level plan. The threshold box is unchecked (you have to drill down deeply into the tool dialog boxes (that's plural) to even find it). Anyone know how to make this work? The Help resource is of no value. How much time is it appropriate to spend searching for an answer to something this simple? Again, this tool really, really needs to be redesigned so that it is easy to use, so you don't need to make many decisions to get a simple representation. 23. I need to enter a stair at the schematic level. I've read the Help manual and watched the video. I've made several abortive attempts. After 15 or so minutes I ended up with a portion of the stair rising the wrong way. Is there a Platform-R? Or only the Platform-L that's shown in the little "Browser?" And I need to add an el at the end of the stair. After another 15 minutes of mostly trial end error, mostly error, of editing, I had to hit cancel, so of course everything I had edited that was correct was ERASED. This tool, like the door tool, produces deep frustration, and, I might add, anger. Why make it so difficult? There could be (are) three widely-recognized levels of detail: 1. Schematic, for quick entries of graphic info. 2. Design Development, where scale and dimensions really matter, as well as some detail and finishes. 3. Construction Documents, where unlimited detail is possible. It serves no purpose, except to waste time, to require detailed decisions in order to produce schematic drawings. 24. But what Mike suggested is truly simple: Double-click on the viewport, select crop, in Attributes, select None (for line).
  25. I vote for a complete redesign of these tools. Does anyone agree or disagree?
