  1. bc, Not needing anything specific, just tried to get Katrin's option a shot. What I did was: ->Create VP ->Edit annotation crop ->Insert a VW break Line (on a angle) ->Drew a polygon following the breakline ->Delete breakline ->Exit viewport crop What I would like is for the breakline to be an actual visible line and the rest of the crop invisible, using Katrin's method. BTW, no negative reflection on Matt's tool - it's great.
  2. Would the curtain wall tool be usable in this case? I mean, create the facade as a curtain wall, recessed mullions for the joins, and various different opaque glass textures for the coloured panels? I haven't delved into VW curtain wall tool yet personally... And if you wanted to add an earth hatch under the ground line - did you end up finding a solution on how to do that on the DTM, or would you just Vectorworkaround it using filled poly?
  3. Thx Benson, will experiment with the image mask shader. Probably should read: I tried to create a fence on a transparent background in PS, saved as a .png (which does support transparencies i.e. software supporting png's fully will import a logo on a clear background instead of a white background), tried importing into VW as an overlay on a viewport. What should have been clear was in fact white. That was the intended meaning behind my statement that VW doesn't support transparent backgrounds.
  4. That's it. After seeing that render, I'm going back to work at Sainsbury's!! Looks great.
  5. Do you mean opacity or a true transparency. JPEG's do not support transparency. How would you create such then? I'm thinking if you had a 3D poly with a chainwire tiled transparency applied to it then you should get the result that Christiaan wanted.
  6. That's a bit harsh Dworks...I'm trying  If you have a chainwire style texture that would be usable in this instance I would like to know how to create it. I tried, but couldn't get it right.
  7. Problem is, VW doesn't support transparent backgrounds in it's textures. Otherwise, you could create a tiled texture, with only the grout showing and everything else transparent. But alas....I don't think that can be done. I did the fence in 10 mins in photoshop.(shame about my VW skills though ) Only prob with this is that you would have to save the view and fix in photoshop and not within the viewport itself. Bear in mind though, that it's not unusual in our business to touch up our images post render.
  8. Hi BC, This post (quoted above) was specifically related to Katrin's technique. I should have quoted Katrin in my post above - sorry. I'm currently using PanzerCads breakline solution, but I can't get Katrin's viewport crop solution to graphically work the way I want it to.
  9. Not sure if this would work but: Measure the area (panel) between each post to obtain a scale. In Illustrator or photoshop: Create an artboard with the same scale & transparent background. Draw a grid using the pen tool and appropriate thickness. Med to dark grey may work best. maybe reduce opacity to 70%. When happy, save as .png (png's support transparent backgrounds) Place that in viewport and resize to fit between posts.
  10. Then you will have the whole crop showing as a line. What if you only wanted to see the breakline, but the rest of the crop you wanted to be invisible?
  11. The solution now shows one stair object with a landing and a slab to extend that landing, a better solution to look good in plan view and 3D is draw the landing as one slab object and draw one stair to it and one stair from it. Problem with that approach is that if you raise the ceiling level then you have to fix two flights of stairs. I like VW's stair tool for control of risers, treads etc but I think what it lacks is the ability to edit/change single components of the stair object, such as the landing in this case. (can do this easily in R___t). Another example of when this type of editing capability would be beneficial - if you had a curved or chamfered tread on the bottom step.
  12. If you modeled that bit as a slab you would have an extra line showing in plan, no? It would be better to have the ability to edit the plan profile of the landing. I couple of extra options to the custom stair tool for the Platform-U option would achieve this.
  13. I still have no idea why this happens
  14. Perhaps a limitation/failure of the auto classing feature to properly assign annotations to classes. i.e. a truly intelligent global setting that allows the user to pop all drawing labels into a specific class
  15. How about this as a fix: Couple of caveats though: 1) The hatch drop down expands to a DECENT size 2) This hatch list is editable i.e. only need a few hatches to appear in the drop down 3) Ability to turn on/off hatch display via OIP
  16. Matt, works a treat, thanks. Thanks to everyone who replied. SOLVED!
  17. Another thing, if the DTM's class attributes uses a hatch and i switch to a top/plan view, why doesn't the attributes mapping tool not allow you to change the hatch's scale?
  18. When I create a section viewport, the drawing title bubble for the viewport takes on the attributes of the DTM's class by default. Why is that?
  19. OK, I've downloaded it, but how to install it? I believe you would use the workspace editor, but the editor doesn't seem to allow you to create a tool from scratch, rather just to edit the existing workspace. Does the .vso file need to be copied to a folder perhaps and then use the workspace editor?
  20. Not quite... Overiding the class in the section viewport applies the hatch through the extent of the view range All graphical elements in 3D for the site are controlled via the DTM's graphic attributes. The class attributes which the DTM belongs to only controls the 2D appearance of the model. But no hatch control...
  21. That's plush! Exactly what I had in mind, except to have the ability also to include manufacturer, type, etc text options as well.
  22. QfanatiQ, I should elaborate a bit more, is there a breakline available which hides whats behind the breakline. I seem to remember there was a plug-in available which allowed you to draw the breakline and you could then adjust a rectangle (which is just a rectangle with a white fill and no lines) to cover over what you didn't want to see.
