  1. Thanks, do you know how i find what i already have in VW, i do not have admin ability to install anything, updates included. I am sure this would be fully up to date. But not sure. Windows (not that i know VW on a win PC) normally has ABOUT under help, there it tells you. Apple does not have anything similar.

Thanks for your continued help i hand holding me through this.

  2. Is there not a Belarc version for apple or something that does not need admin rights?

    Got something

    Machine Name: iMac G5

    Machine Model: PowerMac8,2

    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1)

    Number Of CPUs: 1

    CPU Speed: 2 GHz

    Memory: 1.5 GB

    Bus Speed: 667 MHz

VW 2008 - but how do i find any updates?

  3. I am not IT literate with apple macs.

How do i go about finding this info- tried looking before?

Ask IT support and they say its an apple, what more do you need to know!

Have Vw2010 but due to stability issues since having it office, we are all still using 2008 in most cases.

    Cheers......Q

  4. we have tried several times.

if the original file has a reference in it, it crashes. Even when we permenatly add the reference to file.

When the reference is not in, we get a warning it is cancelled and crashes.

When the reference is attached (and no longer referenced) no warning, VW just shuts down

    Any further suggestions?

    Cheers.....Q

  5. No, not made a difference. It appears that as we have groups on ground etc etc it likes to pick up those first. Grids are never an issue due to them being locked and most of the time is is local.

Very frustrating and makes working longer, but manageable.

    Cheers.....Q

  6. IT chap says we have no permissions set up for folders, if you can see the folder you can do what you want to it.

He is still stumped himself as to why this is not working.

Cant make it work on any machine, seems strange this has not been an issue until now.

    Cheers.....Q

  7. I will pass this on. But it does nto sound right as when we go back into the dictionary the word we inserted is in there (when doen manually) but not recognised by VW

And as mentioned (sounds like the above address's this) VW when learn is pressed it does not.

However, what i really want to do, is drop in a massive list of manufactures I already have, NBS codes, dimensions commonly used. With the system asking for a prefix first, means i cant do this. Might there be any way waroudn that as well?

Thanks for the suggestion. Hope to look at that later!

  8. Even got out IT guy stumped.

If i do a spell check, we seem to have a US based spelling system. Is there an option to make dictionary region UK?

When a word comes up - colour, it of course suggests color. If I select Learn, it still asks next time it comes across the word.

Looking on line, I found the dictionary and how to amend it, however, when we add this word in the same format as instructed, it does not throw it up.

I am following instruction as posted in F1 help - file:///Applications/VectorWorks%202008/VWHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?href=VectorWorks%20Fundamentals/01_Introduction.2.44.html#1165755 - yet no go.

This has also stumped out IT guy.

I have no idea if this might be a defining factor, but when the Mac is shut down and rebooted next day, file - recent files is empty.

This is not the same for office installed applications

As a dyslexic I am suffering greatly on this. Management know and have no real issues. But this is the first time I have suffered to greatly and I do not feel it is professional that I am putting out drawings liek this. I also do not feel it helps my ability to put myself accross.

PC based (admitadly) autocad systems have a word type (green underline) system. Word on the Mac has this as well, can i tei these rules in soem how.

Massive thanks for anyone that can help

    Q

  9. Yes, it is the way the drawing is handled, the things i am picking up are groups and things like a grid will be selected even if i am between (by a long way) grid lines.

This happens even if sent to back.

Thanks for the other suggestions of settings, will look at this (and how we set up drawn information) and see what difference this makes and I can make.

    Cheers.....Q

  10. The more i use this, the more i am struggling with typical every day quick things.

    Selection.

I have an object, line, selection of items selected. I then click on a point. There are three outcomes

    1. It picks up a line that is in close proximity but NOT part of the selection and NOT under my cursor

    2. It picks up something underneath (typically a group)

    3. I get what i want!

    These are in order.

My current workaround is to have my items selected and them move them some amazing distance away.

    I asked the office.

IF i have an item/selection of items if there was a key i can hold down that tells VW, DO NOT SELECT ANYTHING ELSE.

A bit like the shift key adds and subtracts selection, is there a key that says ALL ITEMS SELECTED?

    Thanks.....Q

  11. I am new here (job) and to VW, this is the IT's guy issue, do not know who to get Mac spec etc. Happy to post, but any remedy out of my control if it requires going past any IT set up.

In previous jobs i have very quickly upset IT people buy finding answers and posing problems then solutions when they have been looking into it for some time.

I do not want to get involved but would welcome supporting the forum by including the information.

This was sent in an e-mail mid Jan.

  12. I am crashing about three times a day now on VW2010, 2008 also having issues.

One drawing in particular, i took into Acad and cleaned up and so far it has been fine. It was a VW drawing in the first place.

Still try the Acad forum, there is a plot/print section

    Cheers.....Q

  13. This is interesting.

I would have thought he might not be fully fluent in Acad, but then a message like this worries many people.

I have only had issues bringing dwg's in, never out.

Layers (classes) should export fine. HE should be abel to turn these things off himself and quicker than you can in VW if he uses the express tools. He can then make a map port to handle your drawings in teh same way each time AS LONG as your company follows the same classes etc

I have Acad 2010, if you are able/want to and can, post the file i can have a look to see if it is the end user or the file.

I am back on VW 2008 as 2010 has become very unstable. SO if file format different, save back to 2008

    Cheers......Q

  14. Bob-h,

Like this VW forum, there is an AutoCAD one, specifically run by Autodesk, but there is a wealth of expertise on their.

You will have a problem as Ac2000 is no longer supported, but the forums do have a section.

I vaguely recall having a similar issue that you talk of.

If your .bak is becoming corupted if you select NOT TO over write can you open a previous file (shodl have a set of .dwg's and on .bak. This way you loose 5 mins of course. (remember if choosing this setting to actively delete your previous old info)

You will ultimatly need o clean your dxf survey (assuming it comes in dxf form still?)

The new AC has a recvery feature, easier to use. Ac2000 does as well if i remember correctly. Do the good old F1 and look it up and or google it. I just cant remember.

    Good luck.

    Q

  15. In our training we were told undo can only go back as far as 12 (or 14) times.

I asked if this can be changed, i was told "don't know".

So, can i extend how many Undo's are allowed?

Also can i further set somethign up (if nto in VW alread) that seperates out undoing of

    Classes

    Drawn infromation.

There are times when I donot want/need to undo class information, but do drawn.

    here we go

There are many undo seperate functions in acad. I must admit, when these first came about i was not impressed. However, i have become a fan and utilised them often.

    Cheers......Q

  16. I am on AC 2010, not had that crash yet, BUT i am not on large buildings yet on this.

VW has been stable for me up until late last week, it would appear something has krept into a few of my drawings as there are a specific few that are troublesome.

That said, both AC and VW have been good for getting crashed files for me. They both handle this well so far.

With regard tot the above, how have you set up your autosave on AC? I would have it set as 5 mins, choose a location not on server, have it overwrite the last save and finally keep the option of deleting saves prior.

    Cheers......Q

  17. Interesting post. For some reason i am unable to reply to it and it is not locked.

I find it interesting how he comments on comparisons between VW and AC. Despite him giving the impression he is up to speed with AC, the way he talks about the move command and many others lower doen means he is not.

I would also liek to know what machine spec he did his review on. Our IT guy here has bought some new top notch apl's yet VW is proving to crash a lot more than it ever did before (which is pretty much never).

I am new to VW and even if i had been using it for as long as i have AC i would not draw comparisons in the same way the review did. Lets face, if you are a fan of one over the other, it will come out.

Best way as has been done before (but with more arthouse products), is give to a bunch of students who have no knowledge of any applications and give them something to produce.

I am gaining speed and ability in VW and despite only wanting a cross training platform, i would not dream of a comparison of use or users.

    Cheers......Q

  18. I agree to a point. This is for me, but also for others. When you introduce people to such things with a = chart, it seems less daunting, less stressful and makes the transition easier.

I am noticing alot of similar features, just labeled as something else.

I have been told, VW cant do some tings visa versa acad. I have yet to discover these.

It is likely to be a while and take some time. However, i am putting together my own cross training guide and i will share in due course.

I also do my private jobs on Acad and work as a consultant (don't like that word) who goes into offices and sorts out mass upgrading, licensing, migration, etc , so it will always be a part of me.

If anyone can help. Or even post any training (not copyrighted ones) guides. tips, hints etc, I and many others will be very grateful.
