  1. Patience improves VW's attitude imensely. Not that we should ever have to wait, but reserved caution goes quite a way to reducing them.

I am not used ot using a program that does not respond to normal use.

This is the only program I use in my profession that I do not feel is professional but has potential (in it's output for graphical representation).

We struggle on and hope things will get better.

    .

  2. Not doing themselves many favors.

Surely it is/would be good for them to invest in a seated person firing back and reporting back to their R&D.

Not looking for a VW company reply to every question.

It is a good thing we have the forum in such a guise that I or anyone can reply and give an answer where known.

It is just my experience that VW is hard (for me anyway) and whiel there are many workarounds, it is good to have a source of a real answer.

I am not sure I am explaining myself well.

In short, not looking for a closed VW employee answer only, but them showing an interest, actively. VW has left me often feeling a bit of a burden when I have followed their official routes, to the point where I do not. I am very grateful of this forum and do hope I will be able to contribute as much or more than I gain.

  3. Given that we've found a marked increase in the stability of v2012 over previous versions I would recommend upgrading to v2012 and then trouble-shooting from there.

I don't think there's any justification in asking for more stability when the version you're actually using in production is no longer being developed.

I feel no part of VW is being developed to prevent issues, just cramming more in.

You are right of course. But I am not Mr IT in the office and can only pester. I am told a lot of the issue is our tests on current projects suffer more greatly in 2012. There is a look at a slow change over for new projects. But the crashing is considered an issue.

  4. We all have Mac's, they are all pretty much similar spec and we all have the same software updated to the same level.

Our network is stable (pretty much).

One of those things I think. I am not sure we will pinpoint it, hence my desire for a stable product.

It has got that bad that this is why we are looking at other products to the point of putting in this plan. This could be 100+ seats they loose in the not too distant future.

  5. What a strange issue.

I am sure you are, but when you are OVER the line you desire, you are clicking when STILL, yes? And not floating our cursor up/down and inadvertently selecting another?

Does it always change to the same different line (you do not want)? Or is it totally random?

Does it ever select the line right and stay right firs time?

Does it happen on all your drawings?

    Some drawings?

    Just one drawing?

If more than one, do they have anything in common? Perhaps imported third party information or is it always a fresh new document?

Sorry, I think going ot be a lot more questions to begin with unless anyone can offer up something. I certainly cannot replicate this (but I am in 2011).

I know others will ask, if you an upgrade to 2012.

  6. Been told we are on the latest SP that VW offers (he just checked in case).

We have several projects that it seems to crash on. These have been started on VW2012 a fresh and have a mix of just our own information and projects that have got external (dwg converted referenced) information.

It really seems there is a massive difference in the office. I now rarely crash 2011, but the guy next to me, similar project size and configuration crashes typically once every other day 2011 and it seems we are not stable on 2012.

It is not ideal, but our workaround is the autosave set to x number of commands. I touch wood I stay stable, I know all too well what it is like.

Further more we can find it is not just file specific but mac specific as well. I can work on a file, but another user will crash, or similarly, a file tends to crash on whatever mac. As strange as it sounds, it would be better if there was consistency with when and how files crash.

  7. Do I understand correctly?

You have a Dash Dot Line 1

But at some point this changes to dash line?

You then need to change this back to what you had originally, this being dash dot 1?

If I am right, are you importing in other information (I see your nor importing a dash style)?

Is it asking you, Do you want to replace style with....?

Does this happen when you are working or when you save, shut down and then open the drawing?.

Also, why do you need to try all dash styles to find the one you want if you only work with 8? They do look different?

    Can you post screen shots?

    .

  8. So is this a VW official supported board or an independent board?

I will certainly stick around for as long as I am using this program.

Meanwhile, for who ever does do teh running, setup/configuration of these forums, they should dip into the Autodesk and see the folder structure. Or even independent set up CAD forums that address a whole host (bar VW it seems) of CAD software.

Typically, I am one of the many asking, hopefully be able to start to offer answers sooner rather than later.

  9. We have a version of 2012 running to see if there are any issues. Apprently the roll out is delayed as it is just as unstable as our 2011 install.

Is there any expert in depth look into installation and comparisons on systems, mobo's, etc etc? (again, i know there is often such research with Autodesk). Even is only US based support, have we got table comparisons of platform, cpu, graphics card configuration and their stability?

.We are mac based in this office.

  10. Thanks Mitch, just been pointed out to me by someone at work, i was logging on, in order to post back this find.

    Thanks for posting, greatly appreciated.

It would be good to have one place for selection, not two. But we have an answer all the same at this stage.

  11. Very true, but I have noticed there are a wealth of forums that appear to have company working professionals ready to answer questions.

This in turn helps them moniter issues, gather repeating issues, share and spread the fix to these if and where required.

My experience of Nemetschek has been rather lack luster and unwilling. I visited them at Ecobuild last year as I heard they were there and was continuously fobbed of.

We got so called expert training into our offices that simply turned into generic here is line, here is tables etc etc and when we actually got feedback on projects we were trying to use VW for in the office, we were answered with, package not designed to handle such large size projects. You wont get honesty or then further development from Nemetschek, understandably because they need more seats. But please offer realistic honest support.

There are many feature I like in VW and certain things are quicker and easier. But for me, I now simply like ot use it as a presentation/planning tool, not a technical tool in any way. As a result, the more I find other packages can do what VW does and also offers the decent technical ability, I and the office will soon be moving over (ext 2 year change and training plan staggered).

  12. Autodesk forums are brilliant and rarely does anything go unanswered. Working in tandem between VW and three Autodesk products, I can safely say, thanks to the wealth of expertise on the Autodesk forums I can find answers and on the few occasions I need to post, I typically get a reply back with an hour.

VW could really do with getting a a seat of a few to organise and be a voice of support on these forums.

Lack of information means people move away.

  13. I have used a variety of packages. VW is hard going for anything on a larger scale than a few houses.

I'd really appreciate the VW team doing some hard and deep R&D by looking at all other CAD packages and deciding what they want their package to be and make it work.

Getting a outlook to concentrate on and moving forward.

One think I love about VW is the auto save per X number of functions done. Believe me I need it!

    Crash Free Satibiliteeee pleeease.

    Thanks

  14. I have a large drawing where many people have worked on it. As a result, they have chosen to do opaque/percentage fills with no pen weight border.

These have also been done on different classes.

I cannot seem to find the option under Custom Selection to select all items that have the opaque/percentage.

I cannot imagine that this is not an option, but it is passing me by.

Before posting, i did start to try and select them individually, but due to not being able to select items through rotation when classes are over/under each other it is proving all very hard going for what should be a 5 second job.

A suitable professional solution greatly appreciated.

    Cheers......Q

  15. See the attached files.

The stake object under site planning will do this for you. If the 0,0 is not where you want it to be you can use the 'set origin' command to move the origin, and all the stake objects will update:)

    Hope this helps.

    John

Thanks, the pdf shows (in white boxes) what I am looking to get.

I cannot open the .vwx, I am on 2011 sp5, is this a 2012 file?

    Thanks,

    Q

  16. No, I am talking Northings and eastings for setting out a massive site.

Our Survey has been entered and has a north and east value. These properly relate to 0,0 in the drawing.

So I want to take a (co-ord command) and click on the corner of the building and it automatically says this is

    735,568

    352,744

If those were indeed the co-ordinates.

This needs to be done by the CAD package to ensure acuracy, as I have the N/E info, it can be worked out, but there is too much room for human error when doing it like this.

This is how I have set out sites and this is how we are being asked to do so by the contractor. Despite being on the forums for a wee while, I still feel very new to VW

  17. Mike, thank you.

The surveyor re-sent me the file in AC Lite 2000 and it opened perfectly - well, as perfectly as any AC file does, you know, zillions of irrelevant classes and other junk!

Get them to purge the file before sending it or do it your end.

Or create a VW code to purge out unused classes and objects upon importing into VW.

    Cheers?..Q

  18. No. We work with VW in the office. I work with AutoCAD for PJ's at home. I have looked strong and hard and conversions both ways with native files created from both.

Even on same drawings converted two or more times, they can appear differently in the received program.

While I can get a more constant look from Acad to VW I cant the other way around.

HOWEVER, when bringing in Acad to VW, no matter what is measured and how it can too often be slightly off.

Just recently we are struggling to get Mstation into VW and they are also suffering greatly visa versa.

    Good luck!
