what that means is i share the library free with you...its a work in progress so if you see a fitting that is not in the library then you post a comment in Onshape making a request...then i will model it and add it to the library...but since i'm doing this for free I may not get to it for a few days...
-
so I have a library of ABS & PVC fittings in 3d...was thinking of making the library free to all...
the fittings library would be in Onshape. but you could download and import with ease...parasolids work the best as they keep the center snaps..
the library is not complete...you would need to post a comment in Onshape asking for any missing items...
since this is provided free then It takes a back seat to my main work
This is what an imported object looks like in VW
102 Reducer 3x4 HH PVC Import.vwx
who is interested?

sorry guys, it was not my intent to stir things up...I've been feeling like we are on this bridge that is rated for so much traffic and now 2-3x more traffic is on the bridge...
the bridge can be expanded and shored up only so much before a new bridge will be needed...

the biggest problem with the cloud cad paradigm is...
If I am vocal and say "The Emperor has no clothes"...will I be "de-platformed"? as I said before "you got me over a barrel" on that one.

just a different set of problems
That is actually true...
The issue is volume of stuff. at one time people could just have an outhouse in back and it worked fine...
but then we hit a critical mass & you need a septic system...then town sewage plant
Circuit boards became integrated circuits...now we have multi core
If we look at any system, they all have this cycle...a technology hits a critical mass then need to phase into something else.
This is a reoccurring cycle & has descended on the AEC industry...this is not about personal likes or dislikes...

Remember, I have 3 years of experience using a cloud cad platform...its been near flawless...
What happens is I spend a week or two in this cloud platform, then switch to desktop cad (this is not a VW issue, could be Revit etc) and things grind to a halt...
The current paradigm is physically not sustainable with the data demands placed on it.
Granted some cloud is terrible...I used O365 and its clunky...

they'll know immediately and they'll fix it right away.
right...when the desktop version has a problem the immediate issues are, is it the software, the OS, the hardware OR a combination of those things?
this has to burn up a tremendous amount of resources...

I don't see AutoDesk playing nice with Nemetschek and vice versa
i agree but it would be only ONE "line" back and forth vs all us users going back in forth...

this is not about what we like or prefer...this is what is happening. we are buried by a critical mass of data...

I love the collaboration thing, especially with cloud based stuff, but I will leave that alone for the moment..
I got Bluebeam Revu in 2015...today I have one convert in the company I do work for...ONE!
I got OpenBOM Teams and set up a much needed data base for a company...users? Zero.
Onshape (stellar product & the easiest to collaborate with) but try to get people to collaborate with it is pulling teeth...
Now, as for me and my team (the people that work for me) we collaborate very well with the above and use these tools to the full potential...
Sep outside my office and things grind to a halt...
Why? Why do people go to the GYM vs lifting weights at home? Why do people prefer going to a classroom vs home schooling?
I seems to be a thing with self-discipline...lifting weights or doing math at home is harder than going to a classroom where a teacher provides the motivation.
login into these collaboration tools and reviewing/checking is harder than having a goto meeting with me leading people by the hand thru the model...
I'm ok with this method...but its slower as we all have to sync our schedules...
I'm happy with the new Solibri collaboration thing...AND I DO GET IT...I want to email everyone and tell them about this...
But these are the same people who I have tried to get on board with Bluebeam Revu, OpenBOM & Onshape...
While I can use these in my office mightily...Solibri is really a "collaborate with those outside your office" program.
What is funny is that the one Civil engineering firm that did have Bluebeam Revu, still felt the need to email me the drawings even though we had a share project folder
in Bluebeam Revu...I kept telling them "just place it in the project folder I set up"
People like emails because people are more reactive than proactive.

Brownian motion
"the erratic random movement of microscopic particles in a fluid, as a result of continuous bombardment from molecules of the surrounding medium."
As we add more and more detail to the model (for BOMs, Energy audits, etc) then any updates to the "microscopic particles" causes the "surface" (sheets) to always be vibrating with new data (updates)

-
Also, the sheets (stored on Bluebeam Revu) are always outdated by a few weeks...so when we have a meeting I'm showing the model as everyone wants the latest information...Updating all these sheets every week generates a fair amount of time...
-
I'm getting one of those feelings that 50-60% of the time for a project is making sheets...
Also seeing this big time in the mechanical CAD world...easy to make a model but then to break it all out into part/assembly drawings then combining into a pdf booklet complete with bookmarks is a big operation...
If I could just export a model (Architectural or Mechanical) then have everyone build off that then...wow! That would be lightning fast...

The VGM Universe...Still impressed
in General Discussion
Posted
So I had to do some explaining of a subject matter and most people do this Power Point thing...
But I set up the models below and then place the images as shown...
Then I just did a walk thru talking and pointing to things as I went...
I just cannot get over how well this VGM universe works.
(3d Connexion Space Nav is a must)
All my meeting presentations are done this way...others talk about what is going on (talking heads) and some show sheets (pdf) but when its my turn I take everyone into the magical world of 3d. Well done VW
(I could use a better background. Any High Res available?)
