VW Cloud Render also seems to have really low quality settings. The curved geometry is unusable. Here is a comparison of what I get on my own machine and what VW Cloud Services sent back to me.

I tried your link for font conversion and it works great. Unfortunately the fonts still don't work with VW Cloud Services.....
Doesn't much matter anyway as all the curves in my viewports rendered faceted using the cloud rendering so the PDF aren't useable either way.

Yes, its not clear to me why VW Cloud doesn't turn on Save Cache Viewports if its not on and then re-save the file with the rendered viewports.

Thanks Dave. That's a great thing to know.
Based on that premise, it seems that Final Quality RW doesn't use a very high setting for curved geometry. I get a much better result with Custom Renderworks and its very high setting for curved geometry.

I actually really like the protractor. Is yours not transparent so you can see objects through it?
Its orientation is also affected by your Screen Plane / Layer Plane and Automatic settings. In Screen Plane the protractor is flat to the screen. In Layer Plane it is flat to the layer regardless of your view. In Automatic it switches to show you which plane you are rotating on. Very useful and necessary then.

Does anyone know what sets the resolution (number of polygons) of curved objects when they're sent to Cinema 4D using the "Send to Cinema 4D" command?
Some things are coming in feeling more faceted than they should be. I can adjust them for looks in Cinema 4D but I actually need geometry since I'm sending it to my 3D printer.
Thanks,

What's up with all the different Service Pack 2 builds? Its starting to get very confusing. Why aren't they each a new service pack with their own release notes? And if I look on Service Select there is only one Service Pack 2, which one is it?
I appreciate the updates and bug fixes, but I really like to know what I'm installing and why. There are no specific notes for Service Pack 2 (Build 176329) and Service Pack 2 (Build 177995) only the overall list for Service Pack 2.
Ugh! My brain hurts :-)

Its all secret information ;-)
SN = Sheet Number
SD = Sheet Title
Its a way to auto-populate the sheet number and sheet title based on the sheet layer information when automatic drawing co-ordination is turned on (Document Settings>Document Preferences>Use Automatic Drawing Co-ordination).
Its the main reason to use automatic drawing co-ordination in my opinion.

I agree with Michael, the split tool is invaluable.

You can likely get all of the surfaces flattened onto the screen plane by converting a copy of your object to NURBS, ungrouping and running the Unfold Surfaces command.

It only works if your viewport is rendered in hidden line. If it is, the lines will act as boundaries for the paint bucket mode of the polygon tool.

I'm having trouble with objects holding their "By Class" opacity. The objects are JPG images.
If I assign them to a class where all objects take on class attributes at creation and the opacity is set at 50% they initially take the setting. Then if I zoom in or out their opacity snaps back to 100% and they lose their "By Class" settings.
If I manually set them to 50% instead of "By Class" they will hold their setting.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Almost all my project files are over 100mb now that I work 100% in 3D and use sheet layer viewports for drawings....

This message has become all to common. Even worse the file often won't save properly after it appears.

The arrow colour of the section marker is determined by the object's fill colour in the OIP. Change the colour to black and the arrow will be filled black.

In tracing complex curved shapes, its often easier to rough it in and then refine it using the reshape tool. The various vertex types behave differently than many other programs and take a fair amount of practice to get consistent results.
When adding and subtracting surfaces, extraneous and overlapping points are often introduced, especially where curved segments meet straight segments.

If your ellipse can be drawn with the arc method, you could try using a curved wall for each segment.

Same problems as Christiaan.

I noticed this too. Very annoying. I submitted it as a bug through my distributor and would encourage you to do the same.

Nice model, though I would tend to agree with Guy that its not particularly complex. (And I was reminded how bad "draw edges" looks in open GL when I opened your file however.....)

Perhaps there is something in your geometry that the export routine doesn't like. If you create a simple file (ie. an extruded cube) will it export ok to IGES?
You could try posting your file here for someone else to try.
Kevin
PS. Maybe add a signature to your profile that describes your system and Vectorworks version. Click on My Stuff at the top of the forum page. Are you running the latest Service Pack?

I just did a test of the IGES export in VW2013 and it seems to work fine so its likely a problem with your file. A couple of things you could check -
- are you on an empty layer? I think IGES only exports the active layer.
- do you have 3D geometry? I think IGES only exports 3D geometry. 2D geometry gets discarded.
- you may need to be in a 3D view. I know this was true of some export settings in older versions and is probably likely if your objects are hybrid.

This thread has gotten confusing. If you use Command Shift 4 (Capture by Marquee), release the keys and then drag the crosshair to capture there would normally be no problem. If that's not working, that's a whole different problem.
You can certainly change the screen grab key combination on your Mac if you want to, but it shouldn't be necessary to solve the problem in the original example image.

Converting fonts for cloud services
in General Discussion
Posted
The font is ITC Avant Garde Gothic. I've used it as my only VW font for at least 10 years, which adds up to a lot of files. I have all flavours of the font from when I used to send out to a service bureau for printing. I never had any problems with it then, only now with VW Cloud Services.
On a side note, what Vectorworks really needs is a way to globally change all instances of an original font to a new font permanently. Font mapping is only a temporary work around and doesn't help me here.)
