  1. I have only one C: partition with 15Gb free space (that's what you meant right?) Or buy a new upgraded (Mac)computer to be able to do larger 'stuff'. If what you say is true Orso this is essential for my work. I've always been trying to find (and understand) optimal hardware setups (within justifiable price limits) for exactly this kind of work but have never really gotten a full understanding of what actually is important. (e.g. in a previous thread i read that 32 bit Windows doesn't use more than 2(3) Gb RAM ...ie. no use in buying a graphics card with 4Gb RAM) Now you tell me Mac has double the amount of max. memory than windows does this is precious info when deciding what computer (setup) to buy!!! Thanks!
  2. Is this true NNA, it would be nice to get some feed back from tech on this?
  3. Guys i'm getting confused here?! Are we supposed to be critical but no too critical or constructively critical or just not of something or of some people or at everything or one thing or ...?
  4. I'll certainly remember this Orso thanks, thing is i'm more worried about what happens when it's time for a large project (this was nothing advanced or large) i didn't even use 3D figures or hdri backgrounds, this seriously curtails my options if anything big should come up.......it's worrying!
  5. I'm trying to render (final quality RW) a model but keep getting an 'out of memory' warning, what kind of memory are we talking about, is this RAM, virtual, disk, something i don't know of or a combination, is my hardware not capable (time to upgrade)? Any help appreciated. The file is 56 Mb, not too strange. I've already removed a number of props and lights.......no go! HELP! The deadline approaches!
  6. To be honest i think it would suit VW and the way it is setup very well, better than Microstation. The thing that i remember i struggled with when i first started with VW was trying to understand (why) in 3d views the 2d was still present flat in the view and (why) in 3d views only one layer was in 3d (not automatically stacked). Though unique i have gotten used to it, but I think with multi-screen capabilities this setup would function much more 'naturally'.
  7. OK great! i wasn't aware that the wall kept the angle. You live and you learn.
  8. No it'll change, however section detail will not be generated from the model so I can fix that. Thanks for the input Mike, there wasn't really anything new or anything i missed, which in itself is a comfort I usually split into a drafting file and a model file when i get further into a project(usually the 3D model is less important after the initial sketching faze, the client usually gets the picture) so that both develop to show their respective info. It shouldn't be that way, but so far they (this again applies to all Apps i use(d)) don't provide the capability i need to generate 2D, 3D model and section/elevation drawings from one model (within time limits i can motivate).
  9. Another thing related to this, it's not so clear from the renderings but the plan shape is a trapezium meaning that the end walls will need to have angled end caps, do i use the pillar tool to achieve this and keep the top/plan view correct, or is there another way?
  10. No that's ok Mike, thanks for the offer but don't spend time on it (yet) i was thinking along the same lines just haven't tried it yet, i'll get back to you if i run into trouble . I wonder how the rounded wall parts will show up in plan.....i would like them too, i have to find a good function for them inside i.e. cupboards or bench etc. Thanx!
  11. Here's a challenge......i'll soon start drafting this villa and wonder what the best way is to get the 3D model and plan views to look correct. The main challenge is to get the round wall sections to show correctly in plan view while still being correct in 3D. Any genial suggestions?
  12. Yup that's it...that's how i worked in Bentley as well.
  13. This still means that only one view at a time is 'active', doesn't it? A good alternative for now, i admit, however i've become quite adept using the number pad which will have to suffice at present . I'm waiting full of anticipation for 2010!!
  14. Agreed, practically that's the way to solve this specific problem, however i personally like (hate not being able too) have options so that i can decide how something looks or functions. What we need is a way to have and create our own default options once, to be then used as templates for our own/countries specific needs. Another example is the 'generate sections' function (this applies for all CAD apps i have encountered) i have never been able to generate sections to look the way i want, in any App (this is not only lack of competence ) Both the ability to control what parts/classes/objects are shown and how/if they merge and line thickness control options are greatly inadequate. Bentley was fairly good at this however, a couple of years ago at least, but still far too complicated and time consuming to be effective/usable.
  15. I appreciate the suggestions guys, really, but i was thinking more along the lines of being able to draft in any of the views at any time....ie hopping from plan view to 3d to elevation (if these happen to be open)....that's not possible with DLVPs. The DLVP solution is good if you want to have an overall view of what you're doing but doesn't deliver the flexibility I'm looking for....we'll see what the future brings. Thanks again.
  16. I don't want this. I don't want to have to walk my CAD program through every little step holding its hand the entire time. It should just know what the real boundaries of a room are. I shouldn't have to explain everything to it. I just want to get on with architecture. Not by default, but as an option, eg. what happens when you want a space to pass a door ie 2 rooms as one space then you want it to not count that specific door/threshold inbetween.....(just one eg. for starters). Just imagine you have the space tool the way you described earlier and come across this 'specific' situation...i can tell you there would be quite a few you's in your post about that..... I think these programs should be intuitive by default but abundantly flexible in options. The classic example in all CAD Apps is the stair makers, remember a couple of years ago we were all ecstatic when they first appeared only to be frustrated because 80 percent of the stairs we draft happen to be slightly or greatly not standard and we couldn't make them with these new tools because they were not flexible enough and didn't offer the options we needed..... The important thing is not a limited amount of options but that when you need to change them the options are presented in a clear, understandable and easy to find way.
  17. You can toggle through the different (multiple)selected objects at the top right of the OIP-shape dialog by using the arrows, don't think you can (de)select from there unfortunately.
  18. Guess i could put in a wish on the wish list forum for multiple drawing areas/windows for a single file
  19. Don't DLVPs assume the same view as the layer they are in? We can't have DLVPs of a layer in the same layer.....
  20. Good point! However it would be good if one could determine what elements are to be followed or not.....
  21. Is it possible to open several views simultaneously in one file? I would like to work with multi-screens and have for example plan view and 3d views open simultaneously while i work.
  22. Now that's a beaut! it's been mentioned before. One single file format. That really would simplify things . . . . . . Doesn't specifically have to be one file format, just compatible. ie in Bentley and ArchiCAD you can just open a dwg file edit and save it as dwg again.......all PIO info is lost of-course....
  23. Of what i recall i believe it was, but remember it wasn't me who said it , like i said i like to play Devils Advocate sometimes. In that function I was just trying to explain certain heated reactions to some of your posts by 'normal' users, i guess much of what you post here is mainly aimed at the engineers, a lot is over my head at least, but i firmly believe that because i am a normal user, my gut feeling is as important.
  24. I like to play Devils Advocate sometimes.... ...because i work with a very good, effective, cheap CAD App :)
