  1. ...found it! Here's the link (strangely enough you can't find it in the support section yet??) http://www.nemetschek.net/downloads/fundamentals/2009/ServicePack.php?major=2009&servicepack=4&series=B&platform=WIN
  2. Just started up VW this morning and got a message that my version is outdated and that there is a SP4 available since June 4th, can't find the download on the homepage though...?? Anyone know anything about this?
  3. I tried installing 2009 on my personal laptop yesterday, but it crashes directly on start-up. (2008 worked fine). I tried installing it twice but no go. (It doesn't show up in the programs list under Start either.) Anyone know if it's just not capable? These are the specs: Acer Aspire 9503 EWSMi Intel Celeron M 370 1,5GHz, 400MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 100GB hdd 1GB DDR2 dual channel
  4. Anyone understand this: I have my 1st story in a design layer, from this layer i have several DLVP cutouts to another layer (my windows specs.). When i then remove elements from the story layer i.e.. several walls with windows, the whole windows specs layer disappears! Is this logical, is there some way in which the information removed from the story layer corrupts the window specs layer? Please help, if i didn't backup my stuff regularly this could have cost me a couple days of work! I mainly want to understand the problem (if it is not just a one time thing) to avoid it in the future.
  5. I have 3 floors, is there a (easy LOL) way to present this so that the middle floor shows in FQR and the other 2 either wireframe/15% opacity etc. The idea being to present the middle floor in context to the other 2 without the other 2 being 'in the way'? I guess the question is, is it possible to render different floors with different renderings in the same model. ie using for example DLVPs, SLVPs exref'd DLVPs/SLVPs etc.?
  6. Well there you go, i'm not as ignorant as i first thought, always a nice thing to discover . Thanks Mike
  7. Well, to tell you the truth i've never used nurbs curves (yet) but i would have done the same procedure as before to create the glazing bars as well.
  8. Hi Joe! I'll give it a try....it looks like its a semicircle in section, if so you can create a cylinder with the same height as the patio-width (draw in side view to avoid having to rotate the solid later) and then subtract a second cylinder which has a slightly smaller radius (ie creating the thickness of the glass) then split the remaining volume into the right circle segment and delete the parts you don't need = done, or (if it's not a circle segment) you'll have to create a polygon/shape which has the same shape as the glass section then extrude this (make sure the shape/polygon has a solid fill before extruding if you want the extrude to be a solid). Good luck
  9. Anyone know if there is a way to set a default line thickness-colour setup when exporting to dwg that applies to all?! I always seem to get a different initial combination when exporting, why? What defines this initial combination?
  10. Sorry Bruce, can't agree with you there, this 'wish', if realized, affects us all in some way, i think it is important for all to vent their thoughts/ideas/criticism about it. Whenever i post an opinion on this forum i do so mainly in the belief that the decision makers/engineers are registering our opinions and making well balanced decisions about how important we the users (and they) find certain issues and if (and how) they then can be included in future releases.
  11. Are you implying it went well or the opposite? As far as my experience goes there are very few apps that effectively exchange files (within my line of work that is).......importing files from 3DS or Sketchup are adequate but often too large, IFC is a start but still not really worth the time and effort. Agreed!
  12. Extruding the polylines was no problem for me, but then they are hollow containers not solid.....if you want them that way i'll save it for you and send it over, what units do you use by the way?
  13. Sorry Carl, i've tried everything i can think of (which is not so much) I even opened it in AC but... nada! Can't help you, please don't take my star away.
  14. Yeah that's what i mean but if you want some help with structure or landscaping etc. you get it free, easy to use and right there at you're finger tips. Sorry don't see the daftness...this is still exactly why VW heads the list in my book. It was an example of how specialization outside an architects field of competence suddenly can be part of his decision making in an early stage of design, without any extra education. This is exactly why Bentley Microstation beats them all, it does cater for all and all sides are properly thought out, it functions well as a whole. I think it's a way to see VW - as a Microstation light. That is at least how I want it to be, AC is too stumped for my liking (a good architects tool though no doubt) Why would NNA want to have 2 similar products with 2 different names and try to sell them for 2 different prices to the same people, now that sounds daft??
  15. Uhhhh..... just selected everything and did extrude, CPU is 100% ......has been for the last few minutes....?? Tough cookie.
  16. Hah there you are wrong my friend! 'Twas not I!
  17. Now you got one! Is it my turn to congratulate you now or...?
  18. Excuse me for being so forward, but wouldn't it be better to import the scanned drawing into VW directly and redraw with polygons and skip Corel?
  19. I'm not talking about education, VW is a tool, if this tool gives me the added possibility of checking and questioning any aspect of the building process in the same amount of time with the same tool, therefore creating a better end product, this is invaluable. Here i think an excellent example is the new ThermoRender capability developed in Japan. http://bldgsim.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/thermal-analysis-in-vectorworks-with-thermorender/ You can argue that thermodynamics is not part of an architects competence so why add it to VW, well with a click of the mouse it gives us the possibility to identify problems in which we have little competence and gives us the possibility to attack an otherwise invisible problem at an early stage, doesn't sound so daft to me. Nobody said anything about compromising specialization, the issue is what specialization(s) to concentrate on.
  20. I think it's a bit like the safety issue in F1 racing not really 'functional' in racing however essential non the less, the technology that develops from having a multiuser base in VW and their demands will make VW more flexible and more innovative (i believe). As an architect i have to have a certain amount of knowledge of all disciplines involved in building, if VW can help me with this it makes me a more competent architect. Part of the issue i'm guessing is that to continue competing on the same level with the other apps with only a fraction (i'm guessing) of the resources might force NNA to focus on only 1 or 2 disciplines. This would be a great shame! On the other hand having acquired Graphisoft might give them a short cut with regards to RD in developing VW building modeling aspects, leaving more funds for the rest?!
  21. Carl are you just posting here because you're waiting for the rendering to finish ?
  22. I don't know, but i choose to believe it's a positive thing, but i'm inclined to believe it's because i whined before for not having any........it was better without the stars, at least i didn't have to think about it ha ha. I think they should exchange the stars for frogs or so, more fun that way.
  23. Double click the extrude and check that the original polygon or shape has a solid fill. ....don't know about that one, but have a look at the different ways of mapping the texture. Select the wall, OIP>render>mapping
