Yes, Text along path is much better, the path can be curved - the text can be rotated 90 to the plane of the path and both the path and the text (profile) can subsequently be edited not to mention editing properties on the fly via the object info palette.
Also - if you only need 3d text surfaces this too is an option - allowing texturing and the expected 3d behaviour.

No, I created a new crop object using the rectangle tool. and it worked once!

Thanks Michaelk,
You could be onto something there. In the end I just copied the content and pasted into the 2009 file. Ugly but true.
Maybe it's a July thing.
-
I tried it. It actually worked but I don't know how. However, why not just create different SLVPs and control the visibility from there?
-
What class are the DLVP's themselves assigned to.
Is it on?
-
Thanks Jonathan,
All good stuff - I see Dropbox if free up to 2GB so I'll definitely be using this.

I don't think so Ian. - Here's what I'm doing.
1>New VW2009 file
2>create new DLVP external external file.
3>move and rotate new DLVP
4>Save.
5>Export to VW12.
Open VW12 file (in VW12.5)
DLVP contents have been exported in the location & orientation they were before <3> move & rotate
Is this the expected behavior?
-
I wonder if I haven't reported my issue clearly or does anyone have a solution?
-
This is baffling me - I hope someone can help.
When I Export a 2009 drawing as VW 12 my externally referenced dlvp rotates and repositions its content to where it was in the original file.
Can anyone help.? What am I missing? Thanks

Have you tried Model>Create Image Prop. You can land this anywhere you like at any angle. Just be sure to uncheck - Auto Rotate to Viewer - You can also resize it in the Object Info Palette which can be very useful.

Hi Bruce, I use several ways to crop a viewport.
From a 3d view
4 - drag a rectangle - set line-weight to 0 View>Create Viewport.
This doesn't work in Stacked views so
From a 3d stacked view or saved view -
View>Create Viewport and then - as you are doing Edit Crop and drag a 2d shape around the crop area.
From a perspective window obtained via the Walkthrough tool - adjust the
corner handles to the crop area and View>Create Viewport.
btw, I also find that from the Sheet layer>Edit Crop is a very useful place to adjust the viewing angle of a model using the flyover tool.
All of which reminds me - I really should create a shortcut for View>Create Viewport, it will save a lot of time.

Thanks Ray, I must do that.

Hello - thanks for helping.
When I Include Hardware (a lever set) for a Swing Bi-part door the lever symbol fails to mirror as expected. Has anyone else had this issue - is there a fix / workaround. Thanks.

Hi Danielf,
No you're not over-thinking. The components of a wall can reside in different classes. Just turn off all component classes except the wall stud / core and run the auto-dimension command and all will be well.

HI GWS -
You can do this by pressing the enter key twice. There's probably an excellent reason for this, I wonder what it is.

Rotate 3d?
-
Hi Mac B,
Have you tried to edit the texture colour to filtered image - then set the filter colour to achieve the look you'd like?
-
Does anyone control class visibilities for Sheet Layers? I've been frustrated by viewports being hidden when I return to the Sheet Layer because their class is now hidden.
-
HI Jadler,
Have you thought about
Convert to 3d Polys then paste and Rotate 3d about the x axis to stand the plan view up into the x-z plane.

It will help to reduce the pdf size before importing / referencing. This seems to only effect the raster part of the pdf leaving the vector part intact. I know in
Acrobat Pro>Document>Reduce File Size this option exists, also, on a mac in Preview;
Preview>Save As>Quartz Filter>Reduce File Size.
There must be an equivalent in windows.

Have you considered Sketchup - it can dimension in 3d and has a handy push - pull feature to help. If you make you Carving block with sufficient faces you may have some success. It's an interesting concept.
In VW you may try fiddling with meshes and moving the nodes. I'd like to know if anyone would consider this sort of freeform modeling feasible in VW.
Good luck with it - let us know how you get on.

Hi JHEarcht,
it looks like a bug to me.
You can however get to use your image with a transparency by creating and applying it as a new texture or by using it to create an image prop and Use Mask >Create Mask > Transparent colour. / Alpha Channel.
You can even use a separate file as the mask.
Good luck with it.

You may find the symbol is comprised of objects with various classes.
You could edit the 2d element of the hybrid symbol from the Resource Browser and see if this helps.

ps - who starred me up > that was nice! thanks
Site Model Existing and Proposed

HI Blackknight, I believe when you create a site modifier you can set it to be applied to either the existing or the new DTM, Why not edit your existing SMs to apply to the existing - could this work for you?
