  1. i also experience this problem with editting text. something that in my mind has been an issue in all versions of VW. certainly makes it difficult to have numerous individual lines of text the same length. example could be a title block. alistair quote: Originally posted by TiTaNiuM sAMuRai: 9.5 and b7 both showed display issues with editing text. The top half may be shifted over, shifted up, blanked out, whatever.
  2. when we plot in our office we use the preferences and convert to black and white only. we have a vectorscript for this so it's quite easy. only problem is that if you have any greyscale fills on your drawing you lose them. changing to black and white through the preferences i find works great when plotting to any device through HP_GL2. printing with greyscales through a raster and postscript that takes a few more steps in my experience. alistair
  3. any quick fix if you are already drawing the concentric arcs on an angle? alistair
  4. i'm haveing major problems with concentric arcs on an angle. try drawing concentric arcs start point 360, end point 180 then use the offset tool to the inside. you can see the arcs and you can select both. Now try to rotate this set of arcs. the arcs are still visible but i can't select them (sometimes one sometimes both). anyone else seen this? running VW 9.5 on a G4 450 under 9.2 with 768 megs of ram alistair
  5. correct me if i'm wrong but in previous releases of VW i don't think the arc required a fill in order to snap to it's center point. why do we have to fill the arc in order to find the center point now in 9.5? alistair
  6. Thanks for the input on the plotters. i have now discovered another oddity when printing to my Epson 3000 from VW 9.5 it would appear that when you try to change the media type in the print window (to same as specified on printer panel) you recieve an error in the epson monitor that the paper selected in the driver does not match the printer. you can either abort, ignor, retry. retry - same resultignor it will printabort your back to the drawing where if you try to print again your driver still has the original media type selected. this get funnier when if you hit ignor it prints but next time you go to the print window the media type you had previously selected which it said you didn't appears and you go throught the same process again. this has not happened before as it used to work flawlessly. for info, i am running VW 9.5 on G4 with 768 megs Ram, OS 9.2.1 and the latest epson drivers from there web site. any input? alistair
  7. has anyone else experienced this problem? in VW 9.5 draw three or four identical parallel lines (horizontal or vertical) select them all and then go to one end point and try to resize (lengthen or shorten) them all at once. it doesn't work for me. it worked in all previous releases i'm aware of and that's back to minicad 5 any input? alistair
  8. it started right after i upgraded to VW 9.5 i have not changed any settings for my os or for epson. so all fingers point to vw 9.5? unless i am missing an upgrade which i will look into. alistair quote: Originally posted by Matthew Giampapa: This really sounds like an OS/Driver issue and not VecotrWorks related. 9. Matthew i have jsut installed the 9.5 beta and have found that i can not print using the latest Macplot 5.1.2 to my hp750c plotter. once i have selected the plotter in the chooser and go to page set up the top line states that it is an unsupported plotter. is this a problem with trying to use hp-2gl instead of selecting the raster version. if so can we expect a fix from vw or will this again have to come from macplot. to be honest i'm getting tired of upgrading vw and then waiting for macplot to upgrade before i can print. any suggestions or clarification would be welcomed. alistair quote: Originally posted by Matthew Giampapa: Mike, If you are looking for a Mac based plotting solution, I would recommend a native PostScript plotter, or MacPlot and a MacPlot supported HPGL/2 printer. 10. is there a property line tool in vectoworks 9 similar to the one used in 8.5.2. perhaps i'm losing my touch but i can't find it anywhere. not in the program, the manual, nor this forum. any help? sorry for the stupid question (unless there isn't one) alistair
  11. quote: Originally posted by Archken: Just some commentary from me: I plot 180d using the printer driver whenever I can because it pushes the printable image towards the right, leaving natural space for the binding strip. My setup, however, is an ol' reliable MacPlot HPGL v5.0/ VW8.5.2/ MacOS8.6. For prints with greyscale graphics I find that only MacPlot Raster works (not MacPlot HPGL), but unfortunately it does not have 180 degrees, as mentioned. . i currently plot from VW9.01 to an HP750C thru mac plot 5.1.2. but were doing this fix for all previous versions of VW also. on your drawing ensure that the right hand edge of the paper size (grey line) is positioned on the right edge of your titleblock. you obviously can't snap to this when you move your page but just eyeballing it works. then ensure that on the left side of your page ensure that you have what looks to be a sizeable strip of paper between the left edge of the titleblock and the edge of paper (grey line) when you print this you will end up with a nice 1/2" strip of paper between you titleblock and edge of paper on the right side, and your set distance on the left side for binding. the long and short of that is don't centre your drawing in the page but rather push the drawing to the far right of the page. if you set it up correctly and do a few test plots you can adjust the top and bottom lines of the titleblock to ensure you have equal amounts of paper past your titleblock on all three sides while still maintaing the binding strip. if this makes sense, as i'm not sure i'm describing it clearly you'll never have to print 180 degree again. alistair
  12. Peter my only suggestion is to get a copy of Virtual PC and install copies of autocadd 14 and 2000. while this is not a fix for vectorworks it will give you the ability to view the drawings in their native environment on your mac (i assume your using a mac). this helps in many ways as you can then bind any x-refs that may be on the drawings and also change the drawing to model space, save as new file name then import into vectorworks. it will also give you the ability to see the line work (dashes etc.) which does not translate well. this is the only solution i have found and use every time i recieve a drawing from a consultant. you can also use it the other way to see how your VW drawings translate for the consultants and make any adjustments as necessary. 13. tech support told me that the only solution is to give VW9 as much memory as possible. if this means turning on virtual memory so be it. how much you may ask? as much as it takes so you don't get this error anymore. as far as a fix goes they beleive that this memory load may be lightened slightly in 9.0.1 but can't guarantee. as the problem stems from (as i see it) VW and RW running within the same memory allocation. this may work better if they were separate as in VW8. of course this goes against the marketing speach that one has to listen to while on hold for tech support that states 'the integration of VW and RW allows for faster render times' lets hope 9.1 will guarantee, as i can't believe that we are expected to upgrade our machines to 1 gig of ram just to do simple renderings within this program. my 2 cents alistair
  14. i have tried your suggestion to the slow keys (as that is the reason it is slow) and i still say they are slow so have taken your advice and sent to bugsubmit. as for the double line comand and the option key it may have been a mistake but it was a good one. i will make a presumption that most people are right handed. thus use there mouse in the right hand leaving the left hand over the keys. if the left hand is over the keyboard, and in its normal position why would you make the default the U I O P keys. certianly worked better using the left hand side option key. i will admit i have not looked into using the U I O P keys any further and can only assume that they can be changed to suite the users personal preferences? thanks for the response. lets hope everyone gets there wishlist items on the next update. thanks alistair kirkwood
  15. i have found that using keystrokes within vectorworks 9 is very slow when compared to VW8.5 for example in vectorworks 8.5 i would select an object while holding OPTION key in order to duplicate it then i could move the duplicated opject with the mose and switch fingers to hold the SHIFT key in order to constrain the horz or vert movement. in VW9 it seems that for each of these steps i have to pause or unselect the object. this makes for very slow drawing, and i can't understand why this process would have been changed. also why can't we use our keys to flip between options within a tool. within the double line tool one could use the option and apple keys to flip between desired options. this is not possible within VW9 unless it is different keys? i suppose the only good thing about all this is while drafting you can almost feel like you are faster than your computer. on second thought i'd rather have the speed back than the ego trip. alistair
  16. i get the same error. even with a relativly simple model. as for the larger model (duplications of the previous) renderworks just bails out of this. i've tried running this on a G4 450 with 200 megs assigned to vectorworks and on a Ti G4 400 with 150 megs assigned and no luck whatsoever. i haven't changed my model making practices from 8.5 and these models do work within that version although somewhat slow. anybody got any bright ideas or do we all just revert back to 8.5 Alistair
  17. i am thinking of purchasing a new hp500 ps 42 plotter with the hope of using the hp rip software on a print server. has anyone got this type of set up? my real concern is the speed of the rip. we currently have a hp750c + and use macplot to send to the plotter. ideally with this new 500 i would omit the macplot step as i'm tired of waiting for the upgrades to all the drivers before able to use new software. any comments would be appreciated. ------------------
