Import from Autocad

Not being an Autocad user, and not understanding the way things are generally saved out of autocad, I find it difficult to reconstruct what many other consultants (almost always engineers) have put together for drawing sets. Usually, I will get a folder full of .dwg files that have been x-ref'd together. What is the easiest way to put files which have been x-ref'd back together in vectorworks?

One way to simplify part of this process is to request that your engineers 'Bind' their xrefs before exporting. This pulls a copy of all the referenced files into the base file, and takes the burden of xrefing off of you. I often ask this whether I'm working on VW or Autocad because you often have to repath all the xrefs once they are on a different computer/server.
