Referenced Symbol Loses Data Upon Update

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm using Vectorworks 2008 Architect. I have a file that contains only my titleblock for a particular project. I want to be able to reference the titleblock symbol in each of my drawing files, place the symbol on each sheet, and then enter custom data like sheet names and numbers. So here's what I've done so far

1) Created a file called "TB.vwx" in this file is a symbol called "CustomTB". The symbol is tied to a record format called "TBData". Text within the symbol is linked to fields in that record format.

2) In my drawing files, via the Resource Browser, I reference the "CustomTB" symbol in the "TB.vwx" file.

3) I put the symbol down on a sheet in the drawing file.

4) In the Object Info palette I fill in the data fields for each sheet.

All of that works fine until I update the referenced file. If I update the "CustomTB" symbol in the "TB.vwx" file and then update the reference in all the drawing files, the data that I entered for all the symbol instances is lost. And, I can't reenter it despite the fact that the data record is still associated with each instance.

I've checked to make sure the text in the symbol file is still linked to the record by putting the symbol into a new file. And, it is still linked. It's just a problem in the files that were using the symbol reference before the update.

Has anyone seen this and is there a way I can get my symbols to do what I want them to do?

Thanks.

Fred,

There is an easier way to do this by adding the title block to your default content and using the Issue Manager.

Please view the following video tech tips:
