Autoscroll layers list when repositioning a layer

P Retondo

Question

When I move a layer up or down in the layers list, I can lose track of where that layer is. The list should autoscroll so that as I am moving a layer up I always see two layers above its current location; and when I move a layer down, I should always see two layers below.

I do appreciate that we now have autoscrolling, it's just that I need to see what layers are near the layer I'm moving. In the past, we had to guess where in the list the layer was. It would also be nifty if by clicking and holding on the "down" or "up" button, we could continuously move the layer, similar to the way the nudge tool works.

The only problem with that is that it will then confuse you on layer stacking order.

There are some situations where layer stacking order is critical.

If you scroll thru the layers and the current selected layer is now the first in the list, you may be confused as to where in layer stacking order that layer falls.

Hi Katie, sorry for the confusion - I'm talking about when I'm repositioning a layer by clicking on the "down" and "up" buttons in the layer dialog box. If I'm moving a layer down, for example, the layer being moved is maintained at the top of window as it moves down, and I can't see the one or two layers immediately above it.
