  1. Also the ability to have the leader line starting from the centre top & centre bottom of the callout
  2. Can we have callouts which can have more than one leader line please? It would help keep drawings uncluttered where a callout needs to be repeated.
  3. There is little that can be done with a dormer after creation apart from changing the position. We need to be able to edit the windows, roof thickness, eaves, pitch etc, etc.
  4. That looks great Phil. Any chance you could say how you did it or make a Quicktime screen recording?
  5. Interesting as the specs seems very similar, I see that an Intel HD card is still there. £760 was a good price!
  6. in case it didn't first time due to file size.......>
  7. I'd forgotten about the 3D Warehouse Jim, a great range of stuff but not quite what we need which is as attached
  8. Has anyone come across any 3D roof lanterns that can be used in VW. We're struggling a bit to model one- the Toblerone type of frameless unit with sloping ends like the Rooflights product.
  9. Thanks Jim, It sounds like you are saying that Nemetschek have not given good advice. What would their view be of my particular situation where I have now been informed that my Mac isn't suitable for running Vectorworks?
  10. Fine Jim, but most normal business people who may want to buy a Mac mini for Vectorworks wouldn't be wanting to concern themselves by delving into such esoteric research, and looking at geeky articles! I have already spent valuable business time investigating the issue, if those cards are not suitable for running Vectorworks then Nemetschek should make it crystal clear. As it stands we bought a Mac last September which you are saying is not suitable to run VW. I do find the whole situation rather confusing and unsatisfactory, again I repeat that my Macbook Pro with an Intel HD 4000 runs VW fine. I'm not sure where to go from here...
  11. Hi Jim, The article is dated 9/16/2014, the information given would appear to be confusing/contradictory as if you look into the history of Mac Minis, it's true that for a while they shipped with NVIDIA GeForce 320M, from mid 2011 they shipped with Intel HD Graphics 3000 or AMD Radeon HD 6630M. From late 2012 they started using the Intel HD4000 exclusively, this was used up until late 2014 when the switch was made to the Intel 5000 card. If all this is correct it means that the tech article advice falls short? You have quoted the previous paragragh of the article, however it doesn't mention the Intel HD 4000. My own Macbook Pro late 2012 with a 4000 card ran VW without any problems. If these type of cards are fine for gamers with fast action video graphics, then if they are not suited to simple tasks in Vectorworks then something must surely be wrong with the software. You also strongly advise staying away from integrated cards yet where do Nemetschek clearly state this as advice to VW users? Thanks Andrew
  12. Thanks Jim, It's a top spec Mac Mini, the graphics card is 1GB so hardly underpowered surely? It crashed 3 times yesterday when trying to stretch a wall in 2D so nothing complex. The specs of the MM have been the same for some years and this VW tech article http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1139/Video+Card+%7B47%7D+Graphics+Card+Guidelines+for+Vectorworks+-+9-16-2014 actually says "In early 2009, most MacBooks, Mac minis, and iMacs started shipping with much more capable ATI Radeon HD graphic accelerators. This card provides generally adequate speed and reliability when running Vectorworks. " We bought the MM last September for around £800, so I wouldn't be happy to be told now that it's not 100% suitable to run VW2015.
  13. We have had a few crashes with this late 2012 Mac mini only when using Vectorworks 2015. VSS say it's due to the integrated graphics card intel HD4000 1GB. Does anyone know if this sounds right as in all other respects it performs fine? thanks
  14. All sorted, The re-set procedure didn't work so I downloaded VW 2015 from the VSS server and dis a fresh instal. The service packs were all part of the download so it was quite quick- 15-20mins to download and instal. No red crosses now, the problem seems to have been caused by migration to a new Mac. Thanks
  15. Thanks Jim. Will this work with Yosemite as it's not listed?
  16. Thanks Jim. Will this work with Yosemite as it's not listed?
  17. yes it started without warning Jim, no OS upgrade or migration
  18. this just happened when I started up VW today, I also got a message to ask me to check that there is a plug-ins folder in VW2015 which there is. Any ideas?
  19. I've sort of figured it out now. I understand now about the window being placed in the wall according to how you draw, i.e. if you were to draw a series of walls in a rectangle shape and start at one corner then draw the walls in a clockwise direction, the outside of the windows will be on the outer face of the rectangle enclosed by the walls that you drew. The flipping works ok, it's the sill that's still US dedicated. In the UK the back face of the sill is in line with the back face of the window frame, I've worked out that the inner face of the US sill is fixed to the inner face of the wall for some reason, I'm guessing it's due to your timber frame preference for houses. To get round this I make the sill depth (No 4), the full depth of the wall and then add maybe 40mm for an external drip projection. Oh I reduce the sill height to 40mm as the default setting is a massive 152mm!! Yes I agree that the window tool needs the engineers to take a look!
  20. Thanks Peter, but whatever I do the casement still opens the same side as the stool nose. We don't have stool in the UK, is it meant to face the outside, or face into the room?
  21. I'm still not getting this. If I open a new document and bring a window in from the tool sets without altering the settings, it arrives without a sill. I go to a side view and the window shows fine, I click add sill, and the sill appears to the left side with the nose pointing left, (it's a bit lumpy but I guess that US style for cabins). I make the window a side hung casement, open angle 30º, click 3D open, but the window opens to the opposite side to the sill nose, i.e. inward opening. Is there something wrong here??
  22. Thanks, I made a new wall and have put a window in from the wall toolsets and now it opens the same side as the sill, I think my previous wall style must have been corrupt. What I'm struggling with now is trying to position the sill correctly. My window is offset in the wall by 50mm towards the outer face, but the sill seems to be locked to the inner face of the wall. Is it possible to lock it to the window do you know?
  23. Thanks both, I see what I was doing wrong now- clicking on the gable handle rather than the side pitch!
  24. When I add a sill to a window it seems to add it to the inside rather than the outside. I say this as if I show the hinged casement open in 3D as in the screenshot, it opens the opposite way to the sill nose. I thought it might be possible to select an inward or outward opening window to get around this, but that option doesn't appear.
