  1. hi there, I have a worksheet with several reports on it, picking up space names and net areas correctly; net areas are in column B. but if I try to summarize the areas, for example with =B3 or =sum(B3) I get back the number of spaces, not the sum of the areas... so what is it i am missing...? thanks in advance, helmut
  2. thanks pat, but this would be the exact opposite of BIM, wouldn?t it ? here is another workaround I thought of: horizontal section through the upper parts with mergend cross section and dashed linetype of it... I did not try it yet. but such a solution again needs different viewports on top of another, a true horizontal section (as we all know) needs a vertical one in the first place... all this stuff seems to be more of a mess than a so called workflow - I highly appreciate vectorworks for it?s simple approach but what now ? thanks again helmut
  3. if extrudes cannot get dashed line overrides, how could I show any parts above my section plane correctly in plan...? unless I use a completely stupid workaround like this one: I want to show a roof slab above the section plane (which is an extrude) in dashed lines on my floor plan; therefor I create another 3d object which is large enough to cover the first one and not to show its contours within the viewport... then I could actually RENDER it with dashed hidden lines... JEEEZUS !?
  4. hello there, concerning VW arch 2010: I guess there must be something I am missing about overriding class attributes on sheet layer viewports: I have some 2d and some 3d objects (extrudes), all of them and their components as well on the same class - the one I want to override. the overriding of the color works properly for 2d and 3d objects - but the overriding of the line style - in this particular case from solid to dashed - does not: the 2ds affect the change, the 3ds remain solid. what is it I am missing ??? tanks in advance helmut
  5. joe, still no good news. at least, we are no longer alone with this problem (bad luck for you ;-) just half an hour ago I tried updating the printer drivers again - but as I said before there was nothing to update on this side; we had the most recent drivers already in use. I want comment and support by NEMETSCHEK !! helmut
  6. hello everybody, NNA in the first place, we just purchased our updates to VW architect 2009 and are now in kind of a test mode here in the office. up to 12.5.3 SP2 we were able to plot our patterns fine; just WYSIWYG as it should be and one of the reasons we had made the switch to VW. in 2008 SP1-SP3 suddenly no more patterns were printed or plotted as displayed: they always came out so small they looked like solid fills. in 2009 SP2 it is all the same now... I?m somewhat disappointed... "print patterns in on-screen resolution" did not help at all - it made the patterns much too bold, so this was no option at all. we have a MAC only environment with a HP T610 - of course with the latest drivers, by the way - I do not at all believe the problem is on the plotter?s side, because we get the same results on all our printers, too. any solutions would be highly appreciated, as we use patterns extensively; if only we could see them on paper again......!!! thanks in advance, helmut
  7. ok, i have to correct myself: patterns do not become solids, they are printed in a very small scale and therefore become much too dense (print in on-screen resolution makes no sense because pattern line thickness becomes much too bold then). it makes no difference if we produce a .PDF first instead of plotting directly out of VW2008, and, as i mentioned above, it is all the same on MACs and on PCs. so, to my mind, this has neither to do with leopard nor with any printer driver or setup - it seems to be definitely VW. any comments by nemetschek ? thanks, helmut
  8. we have pattern printing problems with our HP designjet 500 and VW 2008: all kinds of patterns become solids on paper, only the correct color is kept (but at least they are printed...) everything worked fine in 12.5.3, in 2008 it doesn?t work any more - neither on our macs nor on our PCs. we use the latest drivers, on macs those delivered with leopard; we also have the latest service packs (SP2 R3). as the problem is the same on both platforms i think this must be a vectorworks 2008 bug. thanks for suggestions. helmut
  9. just do not miss to install SP2... good luck, helmut
  10. hello mike, after several tests with different types of projects: your suggestion was really great. in fact it is almost the same workflow we had in 12.5 using layer links - but with the advantage of auto-updating viewports. thanks again ! as far as i understand for such an internal (or even external) reference we can have DLVPs (on design layers) and SLVPs (on sheet layers); but when working in a BIM environment the resulting section viewports are always SLVPs (on sheet layers) - why this ? helmut
  11. mike m oz, thanks for your suggestion. i?m going to try it and compare the two approaches. helmut
  12. ok, the following workaround seems to solve this problem: -- rotate plan to draw all sections/elevations heads-up -- change to a sheet layer -- create viewport for each sec/elev that has a different orientation from world coordinate system, which means is not upright on the design layer -- rotate these viewports to show them upright -- dimension the viewports (not the design layer) is this the workflow NNA intended ? thanks for a short comment helmut
  13. hi, we use the new rotate plan feature in 2008 extensively when drawing 2D-sections and elevations, because of course we like to draw them heads-up; in 12.5 we used layer links to do the same. now it seems when it comes to dimensioning such sections/elevations (upright on screen, but with rotated plan), the orientation of all dimension objects refers to the original but now rotated coordinate system, not to the display, therefor the numbers are - depending on the rotation angle - often shown on the wrong side of the dimension line and also 180 degr rotated, which means the whole dimension object 180 degr rotated... ist there any possibility - similar to the deselection of the "adjust flipped text"-feature, to draw dimensions correct according to the rotated plan angle/upright according to display and to keep them static when changing the plan rotation ? thanks in advance, helmut
