  1. interesting. this symbol is a custom one i created. i started with a window object plug in (or windoor, i can't remember which), converted it to a group and then proceeded to make the roundtop louvre with extrudes and solid additions/subtractions. but i have also had the same problems when i create a custom window symbol using an intact windoor object and custom created 3d shutters grouped together. i haven't had this problem every time, but i have found that the problem occurs when the symbol contains some form of complicated solid addition/sutraction, etc. surprisingly enough, it seems like creating the false peaks midway along the rake makes the problem go away. thank you for that advice. at least that can be a workaround for now. i have submitted the drawing to bugsubmit to see what they think. thanks for taking the time to look at this.
  2. i have added another example to show what this problem looks like. the first image is a wall with a custom symbol in it (rendered in wireframe). the second image is the exact same wall, same camera angle, same everything, just rendered in open GL. notice how the "faces" of the wall contain the artifacts but the cavity of the wall is fine. hope that is a little more clear. http://www.freeimagedump.com/view.php?filename=SVa51650.png http://www.freeimagedump.com/view.php?filename=wQF51706.png
  3. well, here's the rub. the wall looks perfectly normal in wireframe, but when i use any rendering scheme, the two faces of the wall flare out to meet the edge of the wall but the center of the wall looks normal. take a closer look at the picture. it's as if the two *faces* of the wall (but not the cavity of the wall) cannot compute an angle in the wall when there is a custom 3d symbol in it and hence defaults to being vertically edged below the symbol. you can see this if you look at the picture closely.
  4. i guess i should have been a little more clear about the problem. the wall irregularities only occur when I place a *custom* symbol in a wall that has sloped sides. i found the problem occurred when i used a symbol composed of both a windoor object and custom (ie, hand-made) shutters (along with the 3d loci to indicate where to cut the wall), as well as when i used a completely handmade 3d symbol (ie, a custom roundtop louvre) and 3d loci. any thoughts?
  5. bump. anyone have any thoughts on this? i also get the wall artifacts when i create a custom symbol to be placed in the wall.
  6. I am trying to place a custom window symbol in a wall with sloped sides and I am getting some wall artifacts that I cannot get to go away. I've attached an image of the problem below. I am using 2d & 3d loci in the symbol to indicate where I would like the wall to be cut, but it seems like some of the left and right sides of the wall extend out beyond the sloped portion of the wall below the symbol. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this (or at least a workaround? FYI- the window is a windoor plug-in object, but the shutters are something i created. http://www.freeimagedump.com/view.php?filename=Vyy59229.png
  7. my problem is that i am importing a file (.dxf in this case) of a complicated 3D model and vw is automatically converting the object to mesh. as one would expect, the mesh is composed of 60,000 polygons and i cannot find a way to easily convert that to nurbs, or any other 3d format. any ideas? i have can access this file in other formats, if that matters. .3ds, and .dcd are the only ones that come to memory, but there are others. i wonder if it even matters.
  8. I posted this a little while ago in another section, but I didn't get any responses. I thought I'd try it again in the general discussion area. I know there is a mesh smoothing option in the document preferences, but it does not seem to affect the Hidden Line Renderings. Is there any way to smooth a mesh object in Hidden Line? Thanks

  10. thanks ray. i'll ask if he's tried that. any idea on why the workspaces become corrupt so often?
  11. hi nigel, did you find any solution to your problem? a person i work with ran into the same problem and has no idea on how to fix it. thanks
  12. katie, i sent you an email with the image attached. thanks!
  13. katie, this is the other pdf text thread i was refering to. apparently it wasn't under a different screenname. do you think this is a font selection issue?
  14. katie, yes, i had the same problem in tiger. i use the book antiqua font mostly, but occasionally it defaults to arial. like i said in an earlier post (under a different screenname), i am getting the double spaced font characters with symbols in front of each line of text (ie, a lowercase y with a horizontal colon over it, followed by a lowercase b with the bottom extended). i always use the export pdf feature within vectorworks.
  15. katie, i have experience the same thing, though i don't use myriad pro or any other font program. i am on a mac
  16. has anyone found that the titles for the sheet layers/viewports in exported pdfs (shown in the sidebar in preview on osx) are screwy? when i export a pdf, the all of the names of the sheet layers and the viewports contained within them appear on the sidebar, but the letters are spaced out from one another and each title is preceded by a (excuse my lack of knowledge of programming language) "y" with a horizontal semi-colon over it, and a lower-case b that has it's lower end extended. is there anything i am doing to cause this?
