  1. Good day Jeffroyer

I see now what you are trying to create.

At what scale will you be viewing these renderings? It will be maybe better just to use the texture as it would use up less memory.

It will be great to know if VW could do something like this, just to know if it is capable of it. I forsee a very complex symbol with nurbs and maybe using the reshape tool, depending which way will work. Will go see and play around with some tools.

Maybe now that you have added a pic of what you want, someone else will have a sulotion.

    Keep Well

  2. What distance will this be viewed from?

If it is to be a render of lets say a stage you will not see the actual holes, so the corrct amount of transparency will do.

I use a plain trancparency with logo's to resemble skrims for PA Towers. Looks grear.

If it will be a close up shot and in detail you will need to create a texture....

  3. I had a similar thing happen to me.

I worked on a drawing and handed it over to our lighting manager so he can place truss and lighting into it.

Other than me he referenced symbols from drawings, where I would have those drawings open and import the symbol directly into current document.

When he sent it back all the new and some of the other Sybols were there, but invisible as if the classes were turned off. I checked the classes relevend and still it was there in the Resource Browser but not able to see or select it in the drawing.

When opening the drawing it first gives a pop-up window saying:

{The reference file ************.mcd was not found.

    Please locate it using the next dialog box}

Select OK and find the file does not fix this

To select Cancel on the dialog box brings up another pop-up saying

    {An error or user cancellation while updating from the reference document "****.mcd"}

This does make all the symbols work as they should

I would think thatwhen you go find the drawing VW askes for it should work, not the other way around....

    *- all symbols were 3D

  4. In 1994 I was first introdused to drafting, using set-squares on wooden drawing tables. Our teasher had just got the latest printer with ink pens, wow! so amazing at the time. It was also my first year in high school. we never did ink on scool level, but at Tech we had intensive training using inked pens and started of with AutoCad14. from there we we tuaght a standerd even though we got the latest plotter at the time. Stadler pens and AC pen thicknesses went hand in hand with our studies, but more as to what you draw in certain thickness. Walls = 0.5(red), windows/doors = 0.18(cyan), furniture = 0.35(green)

  5. So I have done some surfing on other forums and found it could be one of many things that cuase the SYSTEM to run at 100% CPU usage. One was battery related, anothe is fualty drivers.... but not one with the same symtoms as me which are RAM related.

Need to wait for the IT guy to come in as we are not allowed to fiddle around on our PC's. I will show my findings to him and that just might help norrowing it down.

  6. There seems to be a problem with the System now, maybe a conflict, that there is to much RAM and the System tries and fix the problem.

In Task Manager there is a list of applications listed under Processes. Down at the Bottom you find System/SYSTEM with 236K mem usage. Normaly this runs at 0 and up to maybe 5 when opening app. It now at times run at 100%CPU and you are unable to do anything. This is so bad I can't ShutDown via Windows, but have to hold in the Power button on the PC.

This only happens when I have the new (4GB) RAM in.

  7. Good day

Micheal, it is not just with VW it has to do with my system. but thanks for the help.

Ian, thanks for coming to have a look here see.

What I understood is that he meant I need a larger CPU to handle the increased RAM memory....Maybe the RAM and my Motherboard is not compatiable as I do not know if it is DDR333 or DDR400 and knowhere does it show me, both are Kingston tho.

Will do all the checks for compatability.

Forgot to add this last time and might be vital to solving this.

The two new RAM sticks are not identical in size, when slotted the on is shorter in height. Also the black parts are not the same make although both are Kingston. (NANYA and ELPIDA) Not sure if this will cuase a conflict.

Thank you for the tip as to what to look for in google search.

    Never checked the Bios.

    Keep Well All

  8. Good day All

As you see I did upgrade my RAM, well I got more of it in the format of two 2GB RAM sticks. As predicted and been told on here only 2.99GB is shown by the System.

Ok so it works....well in some ways.

When Rendering in VW, I could have a multipile of applications open and the CPU was running at 50%. Compared to only VW being open and CPU at 100%. So that aspect is wonderful.

    Would anybody know why?

A friend mentioned that it is my RAM overshadowing my CPU.

Any comments are welcome as this is driving crazy.

  9. Hi michaelk

I also thought that VW would do that, but maybe it is becuase my defualt drawing has already 4 different backgrounds in the browser and have a layer set up to perspective view layer-linked to my PLAN view in which I would have the final drawing.

Always just a good thing to check that "Lit Fog" is selected on the Background before you do a render, don't just assume VW will do it just becuase there is a light which is set to lit fog.

  10. michealk

Just to add on here which you have not mentioned.

When selecting "Lit Fog", you need to do this in the light prop and also set the backgrond which will be rendered, to "Lit Fog"

    architectureofdeath,

Could you please add your OS and VW version in your Signature so we may help you with the right advice as VW differs in each version.

Hope you do come right with your lighting problem

  11. Thank you for your input and information

My NVidia GeForce 6800 series GPU is a PCI card. This is for the PC at work.

My personal PC at hame has the AGP.

For work I have now added more RAM to the setup, experiencing some problems where the PC freezes up on Startup etc. It has helped in that I can run more than two applications at the same time with out crashes or really slowing it down, but will need upgrade in the processor department for any speed differnce to show by the looks of it.

I must it is a world of knowledge in this little corner of the web.

  12. Good day billgore

I find it best to import an AC file to VW which indicates the side view of siad truss. Trace blocks and extrude. As MattG mentioned they are mostly I-beams. Normally all the beams are the same size and height. working from the plan view you determine the distance between beams/truss.

I unfortunatly have the task of drawing up the CTICC Exhibition halls. In one hall not one beam is at the same height and they do have different sizes in each hall. Oh and they are curved.

    Good luck

  13. Thank you all for clearing this up for me.

I was maybe hoping that if I change from my current PCI card to AGP it would improve the rendering in VW, but as it has been pointed out to me, that would not be feasible as the information I based this on is not current.

So no that, tah tis cleared up.....

I have been made an offer for a NVidia GeForce 8800 GT.

Would changing to this card give me so much more compared to my current NVidia GeForce 6800 GPU?

Ultimatly I know I should upgrade the whole PC to Quad Core.

    Thank you again to all.

  14. Thank you for explaining what the AGP is compared to PCI,

But this does not answer my Questions.

#1.Which is beter for VectorWorks? PCI or AGP?

#2.What is the difference between a Graphics and a Video Card? Or is it just another name for the same thing?

#3.Which card would be recommended on AGP for VW?

#4.are you able to use AGP in a PCI slot OR PCI in AGP?

    Regards.
