  1. There is a contextual menu (right click or control-click on mac) available in the Navigation palette to do this. Also a button in the Organization window...
  2. I think the "Combine into Surface" command under the Modify menu does pretty much what you want.
  3. I had this exact problem. The advice being given here is right on. But you're right - it would be nice if there was a simple tool to find the opening in your polygon. This is possible in SketchUp via a Ruby plug-in; surely Vectorscript is up to the task?
  4. Thanks for the help. I ended up deleting the problematic viewport, turning the 3d class off in the design layer, orienting to the view I wanted, creating a new viewport... and voila, nice clean curves on the sheet layer. Probably not the best way to do it, but it worked.
  5. Thanks, Ray. That works OK, but the abiltity to make that setting then stick (subsequent presses of the spacebar call the flyover tool, not the pan tool) would still be more efficient for me.
  6. I noticed there have been a few posts before regarding this, but I thought I'd add my voice. I am a heavy SketchUp user, and one thing I find immensely frustrating regarding 3d in VW is the inability to adjust the view of your model while using another tool; the ability to "boomerang" the flyover tool in the same fashion as the pan tool would be hugely helpful.
  7. OK, I've managed to model my part in 3d, and have created a sheet layer to display different views of it. I've also created a section view and had great success in getting it to display the way I want on the sheet layer. My problem is that my top view viewport displays the faceted lines of the 3d object, and I want the clean 2d circles from which it is constructed to display there instead. I have the 2d and 3d geometry as separate classes on the same design layer. Any suggestions for Captain Newbie?
  8. Mike ? you rock. I had imported the outlines from Sketch-Up and traced over the curved parts with true arcs. Somehow managed to miss snapping to the existing geometry while doing so. Thanks for your help.
  9. I've just started using VW, and have run into a snag. I have 5 profiles that consist of straight lines and arcs that define shapes that I need to extrude into 3d. I've composed them each into a single outline, and all display the same ? solid fills, to me indicating good planar geometry (my Sketchup background is definitely infuencing me here). When I attempt to extrude them, some work as expected, while others only the edges extrude. I can't figure out why this is, and am deperate for answers. Any Ideas?
  10. Thanks for your input. After doing some more digging in the boards, I've read that VW comes with a 90 day money back guarantee. Is this true?
  11. I am interested in buying a license of Vectorworks, but have a couple questions first. 1. In my work as a sculptor, I need to produce 2d .dxf drawings of my 3d designs. Does Vectorworks include unfolding routines or, lacking that, are it's rotate tools capable of streamlining the process of manually manipulating 3d faces into flattened patterns? 2. Does Vectorworks unroll developable surfaces? 3. Do exported .dxf files maintain arc and circle definitions as such? (This is important for having patterns laser cut, as most lasercutting software only reads arcs and straight lines.) 4. Is it possible to combine 2 industry packages (like Vectorworks Landscape and Vectorworks Machine Design), as these 2 products are likely to include tools most useful to me in designing sculptures and sites to put them in, or do I need to purchase Designer in order to get all these tools. I have little need for architectural features such as walls and windows. 5.Is there a demo version of Designer available?
