  1. There is a couple of ways, i think. There is something called gimp print but I have never used it. We used to use a third party add on called x-rip, but we have since abandoned using plt files. We use pdf files now and with great success. The quality was greatly improved compared with the plt files. We normally print large format architectural drawings and set the dpi output to 300 and the line quality prints out perfectly. With the plt files, we used to get very jagged curves and now with pdfs they are more accurate.

  2. How about using the "sheet layers" and then creating viewports from your "design layers". You can set each sheet layer to have different print sizes and orientation. I believe "sheet layers" an d viewports are new to VW 11. go to organize-layers to create a sheet layer, set up your papersize etc and then create viewports placed in the sheet layer.

    Does that help?

  3. No, all our computers are macs. We store our VW files on a G4 that is also being used as a work station. So when another person wants to open a file from another computer via the network that is currently open on the "server", no warning shows to tell them it is currently being used.

Any thoughts, could there be a setting somewhere that needs to be adjusted?

    Thanks

  4. We have our VW12 files stored on a local computer (G4 OSX). We then connect from other workstations to that computer via the network to access the stored files to work on. The issue is the local G4 is also used as a workstation and frequently has VW12 files open on that computer and when someone else tries to open the same file on another workstation, the usual warning does not pop up saying "the file is being used and will open a read only file". This could be very dangerous if someone saves the file while someone else is working on it. Is there a setting somewhere to remedy this. I don't remember if this was also the case in VW11 but i suspect it might be new to VW12.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks in advance

  5. have also seen this message. As I recall, this happened with a particular file that, when was last saved, vector works had unexpectedly quit. Not much I could have done when VW quits while saving. Hope, there's an update very soon to make VW more stable. Fortunately I had a back up from the previous day.

  6. Is there any way to add a prefix or start the keynote numbering at 100 then again at 200, etc... We would like to use keynotes for noting elevations and we typically number the notes according to division. Any guidance or a work around would be appreciated.

We are using VW12 for mac

    Thanks in advance.

  7. I have noticed that having quartz imaging on affects text placement on my drawings slightly. This also is evident with printing. It seems to only affect certain fonts, I used BeLucianBook. The line spacing is dramatically different when turning the quartz imaging on. Not sure if BeLucianBook is a standard font, but we use it quite often. I have opted to have quartz imaging off at all times to avoid the hassle.

  8. mclaugh,

I haven't heard anything as of late but Delmer posted a very good suggestion as a temporary workaround this bug. What I did was created the arched cased opening (using the door tool) with no trim, no jamb etc...and used the wall depth to set the jamb depth. then I created it as a symbol, and then placed my arched window within the cased opening inside the symbol. that way if you need to move the window around within the wall that it is in you can do it realativly easy. That also gave me the offset that I needed to get the look of a window in a brick wall.

  9. I did try assigning the style glazing a texture as well. Originally I just had that class off. But that still didn't work. I have rendered the arched window many different times trying to figure out what might cause this and I have narrowed it down to two options in the Object Info Pallette; one, is the offset in wall option, and two is the "use wall depth" for the jamb size. Since the window in question is in a brick wall, both of these options are used. When I set the jamb to the wall depth and then set the offset to zero, then it renders fine with renderworks. Very odd! And I can not do that because it is not correct visually, I need that jamb to be less than the wall thickness and then offset to get the look of a window in a brick wall.

I have a call in with Katie, the tech support specialist, and she said its a new bug with version 11.5. She's going to have the software engineers look at it. We'll see what happens.

  10. I tried to render a number of windows with a segmented top shape, but the rendering would not show up. Rendering with open gl seemed to work fine and information like number of horizontal lites and devided lites etc were all visible. But when I rendered with renderworks, the entire window was blocked out as if the window was just extruded as a simple solid shape. None of the window openings or devided lites were rendered. The same thing happened when I set the window top shape to round. But rendering with a square or sloped top shape was fine with renderworks.

    please help.

    thanks in advance

  11. I did output a rendered image at 4050x3250 without any problems but another at 5400x4334 was corrupt, It seems that the CMKY layers are not translating properly at that large of an output.

what I'm after is a 20 to 30 megapixel image or larger if needed to print a very large billboard type application aproxximately 9 foot by 6 foot

Still scratching my head over this so any guidence would be much apprieciated

    thanks

  12. I need to produce a renderworks rendered image at an extremely large print size. The largest i have been able to output is 3888x3120 as a tiff and photoshop file. Anything larger tends to corrupt the image file and only shows odd horizontal colored lines.

Is there an export image size "limit" that i am aproaching or is it some other error. i have rendered a 5832x4680 image that was no good while the 3888x3120 image was not, so i know the range is between there.

I have tried saving the attempts as different file types and dpi setting while keeping the pixel count consistent.

I am running on a mac dual 1.25 Ghz with 1.25 gb of ram with OS X 10.3.5 and there is plenty of hard disk space so i don't think it a lack of power issue.

    please advise

    thanks in advance

  13. I did some forum searching and found that you must change the symbol in the resource browser to change the scale of the tags. Is this the only way or is there a more intuitive method I am just not getting?

  14. Is it possible to scale the actual door or window tag and not just the leader? I tried the scale tool as well as trying to change the font size but nothing happened.

Thanks in advance for any insight
