When you deselect "Calc Dims" you are basically just changing or overwriting the displayed room size text in the space object that would normally reference the shape of the space. To change the size of the space object, just double click and edit the shape with the 2D reshape tool. Or if you have a space object in a room, just hit update boundary and it will fit it to the boundary of the room. That to me is very cool.

I don't agree with drawing at a 1:1 scale and then scaling the VPs. I typically draw in the intended VP scale in the design layer so that I can see the true line weights and place notes with the correct font size etc... as I draw them.
I know there are a lot of users still not using VPs because of habit or other reasons. But VPs allow the opportunity to compose a sheet with two different plans of a building without offsetting them in you design layers. ie you can have a 1st floor and second floor plan printed on the same sheet, while having the design layers of those plans line up vertically so that whole 3D models can be viewed, stairs can line up between levels, etc..
That functionality is what pushed us into using viewports initially. The rest of the functions of VPs are certainly very helpful now that we use VPs on all projects.

there is a 3rd party plugin on vectordepot.com . I have not tried it but it sound like what you might be interested in.
Prefix Classes
A menu item to rename all classes in the drawing with a user selected prefix by Patrick Higgins VW 11.5 or higher.

Make sure you are showing the constraints. Go to View-->Show-->Show Hide Constraints. This turns on/off those little red squares.

I wish there was a way to add elements the same way that you can clip. It should work the same way I can add a polygon or clip a polygon from a floor object or other polygon.

I think design layer viewports of a plan will cause it to count things in the viewports as well.
What's really nice, in VW2008, you can select an object from the worksheet. Just right click the row label and select item. Works great to find those stealth objects that are accidently added to the file.

Not sure how you could assign a depth of a tread for a winder since the treads are triangular or wedge shaped.

For the specific plugins that are causing problems, try reinserting them into your workspace. Go to the workspace editor and delete the tool or menu item. Then put it back in. I seem to get those errors when I import an old workspace. Even-though the tool is there my old workspace need to get updated as well.

I would work with the default symbols in the custom leaf symbol selection and edit the solids in those symbols. It looks like they are just simple generic solids.

In the settings of the door, in the parts tab, select the leaf from the parts pull down. If you can not get the panels to be what you want then select custom panel and edit the symbol as desired from the resource browser.
Be sure that you set the 3D detail level to high in the view tab.

Or modify --> convert to group to that you don't have a mess of lines to select. Both should work fine. I don't think there is anything majorly different with the stair tool in VW08

My last post is showing an image of a new unstyled wall in a blank new document. It does happen on occasion with the line tool as well and with multiple different people in our office.

Grid snap is not enabled. I copied a couple walls from my file into a blank document and it still happened. Again, it is not a consistent thing. I tried it with a wall created from scratch, unstyled and it still did it.

I have been. and I am doing it over and over the same exact way and it seems to be hit and miss. could this be a bug?

Has anyone noticed that when stretching the length of a wall while holding the shift key doesn't always keep the angle of the wall constrained?
Here's what I did. I selected the wall, clicked the endpoint and while holding the shift key, shortened the wall. I did this a few times to be sure that I am holding the shift key down when I lift the click to shorten the wall.
Others in our office have noticed the same thing on other computers, all using VW2008.
Is there something that I am missing.

Not sure how to deal with this but it a little bothersome. When you create a rectangle, and then rotate it 90 degrees, not only do the width and height values follow the corresponding rotated sides of the rectangle, but the anchor point diagram in the object info palette refers to the original rectangle before the rotation.
Perhaps a rectangle should not have a rotation value if it is still constrained in the x or y axis. i.e. if a rectangle is rotated a multiple of 90 degrees, then the "height" should still be the delta y value and the width should still be the delta x value, as it is drawn on the screen. Also the anchor point diagram should correspond with the points on the drawn rectangle, not the original.
Minor annoyances but annoying none the less.

For a highly repetitive element, I would go with a symbol but I can see that being an issue if the symbol lives a referenced file and is not updated. We should probably have a way to update symbols if they have been modified in a referenced file.
I think the intention here was to give people the option of printing from where ever they want, design layer or sheet layer. Although I think all presentable printing should be composed in sheet layers, in a pinch I do print from the design layers just to see what I'm drawing or to doodle on it.
For me, having VPs on a design layer makes for a useful tool to draw other drawings such as interior elevations at the same scale. You can not change the scale of multiple viewports that live on the same design layer so that would defeat the purpose. I would not use them to present other drawings.

In VW2008 Viewports are now able to be placed in design layers. I'm starting to realize that this could be quite useful for drawing 2D elevations and interior elevations without making copies of my original plans all over the place. Instead I would have copies of a viewport that is rotated for the elevation and always updated.
Just wondering how everyone else might be using this feature.

We recently upgraded to VW2008. Unfortunately two way worksheets will not work with items that are referenced. The worksheet pulldown list is just greyed out so you can not edit objects from the worksheet.
Additionally associated dimensions will not work with locked or referenced objects. This message is displayed.

I now see that rotated rectangles (among others) do retain the object as a rectangle. Very nice. Perhaps instead of "height" it should be "length" as to not contradict the z axis or real height value of 3D objects. It's just a bit confusing when drawings consist of both 2d and 3D objects on the same layer
Really, Kudos on adding the rotation aspect. That will be very helpful indeed.

∆x is now "width" and
∆y is now "height"
not to be confused with a ∆z which would be the real height. It just doesn't make any sense to separate the nomenclature between 2D drawings and 3D drawings.
Is it possible to change this back at the user end?

I am also interested in how WGR will act with these new features. Currently I also generate door and window schedules in a master file that has door/window objects on layers that are referenced in.

if its not there then add it by editing the current workspace. Tools->Workspace->Workspace Editor. it is called the remove wall breaks tool(i think it used to be called the heal wall tool). It looks like this:

What it should be is embedded in VW. Even a simplified version such as HEED would be great if it could be done inside of VW without any exporting. Afterall the building info is already there, its just a matter of plugging it in a few more equations.
