I initially tried to modify via wall preferences option in wall tools.
There are two places to edit fill; 'edit wall attributes', and under components, click on wood framing then the 'edit' button becomes available and 'wall component attributes' dialog opens. I edited in both places. This morning I navigated to this wall style via the resource browser and was able to make the edit and it showed up in drawing the way I expected.
Thanks, but I don't understand why setting the fill in the 'wall attributes' didn't seem to do anything, but 'wall component attributes' did.
Anyway, thanks again.

I would like to fill walls in plan view that were drawn without hatches or fills. I can't seem to edit them. I can change the wall style but it only affects new walls.
Do I have to re-create the walls ?

! AWESOME ! Thanks much. How easy is that!

I have a common situation, a column inside a wall. The col is wider /thicker than wall, what are good methods of modeling this condition ? I want the wall to be continuous and "bump out " at the col. Finish wall is 4.5" and at col it is 8", so I'm not sure what actual structure is. (It is an existing condition)

From the file menu, choose import, then the last option is "import sketch up".
There are a few settings and options to deal with but it works.

I see this is an old topic, but are there new / better method of creating roof trusses?
The pre-mfg. gang-nail type typically constructed of 2x4's and 2x6's?
It would be awesome if the roof framer had this as an option even if the webs were not 100% accurate.

Has anyone on the forum attended any Vectorworks training sessions?
Did you benefit? Were they worth it?
Thinking of attending one this summer.

It was the SILLS Class!
thanks

Okay I tried and this is what resulted. Thanks for trying. Is there a horizontal "cut-line" or plan section elevation that could be out of whack?

With the billion or so settings for windows I have somehow turned off the glazing line in plan view. Glazing is set to 'window class', visibility on.
Any ideas?
From the object info palette; Window in Wall..the 5th item down is Height. What does this height refer to? It is not the window itself, that is under General.
I have searched help, but well you know what on-line help is like..

how does one insert a door in a window wall? It is a typical storefront situation with mullion spacing of 6'. I want a 3' door in one of the bays.

Yes, of course you can move a viewport. What I meant was how to align with other viewports. I have objects in two separate viewports that I want aligned as if they were continuous. It is like a broken line situation.

Is it possible to move a viewport?

Thanks all. I need to master the custom control line mode so that my framed wall lines are the controlling dimension (unless doing a remodel like taoist mentioned).
Also for duplicating walls with offset i learned that I have to keep in mind the thickness of finishes!
Is there an advantage later in the process of having used wall styles with the finishes verses unstyled wall (just simple 2-lines)?
Will it make rendering the elevation simpler or does it matter?
-
Thanks that helps a lot. And speaking of dimensions, what is common practice?
Place them on the design layer or sheet layer?

Working on a residence and was wondering if most drafters use the various wall types with gyp bd, sht'g and siding or just simple unstyled walls.
One thing that bothers me with the styled walls is the control seems to be the face of finish. Normally I draw and dimension to face of stud. it makes offsetting and placing walls very tedious.
Still a newbie,
Thanks,
John

Okay, that seems like the way to do it. On a similar subject, what about when you want to print just a part of drawing. Maybe to test line weights or fonts or for whatever reason you need just a piece of the overall. I couldn't find a way to window the part I want to print. A marquee or something.

Is it possible to have different sheet sizes?
I routinely print prelim's at 50% or half-size. My full size sheets are 34x22 so 11x17 works well for half-size prints.
Or does having two sheet sizes wreck something?

Found it... select, right click & Send to....

I hatched a surface that had text on it, now the text is not visible.
Is it possible to set the text to be "on top" or the hatch "to bottom" or behind?

It is working now. I think was temp. confused as to which was on or off the dark or light button.
Thanks, have a good weekend.

Okay, so what is the secret to inserting a door in the center of a wall.
Should I measure the wall, draw a construction (temp) line, offset to center?
I have snap to object on but the only snap hints that show up is 'along line'
Is it possible to snap to mid point of a wall?

Thanks all for help and explanations.
Kevin the added file really helped. Now I get it!
What a great tool.

I am sure that I set the scale when creating the viewport.
And I placed the title on my sheet layer. Should it have been placed on the design layer instead?

When I got out of school we were still using led holders and parallel bars. We drew framed walls as only two parallel lines, a third if there was brick or stone or some other sizable veneer. Now we can add drywall, plywood, air, etc. because the software does it for us. Question is, do you use the complex wall types provided with VW or have you generated your own? I primarily do smallish wood and light steel frame buildings and at this point all 2-d (an old new VW user).
And each time I start a renovation/addition I ask myself how to draw the dang walls! Just the studs? Studs and drywall/plaster? Should I bother making the studs 3.5" or 3.75"(old stuff) or just use 4".
Anyone else ever bothered by these basic questions?
Thanks
JM
