  1. VW 10.5.1 on PC 2.4GHz machine, 512 Ram windows XP professional, with all available updates. We have one machine on the network, which constantly prints out text with a black background. We have replaced the computer and it is now the fastest most powerful one in the office, re installed VW, and all other software, updated printer driver, replaced network cable but nothing will stop the black text background. Has anyone any ideas what is causing this, and why on only one machine, ven after replacing with new? PC support company is stumped. Colin Smart
  2. Robert I did what you suggested and got some interesting data: VW starts at 30,000K with drawing open moving about the drawing by panning, increases to 97,000K Edit symbol - 98,000K edit symbol within symbol - 101,000K exit symbol - 109,000K pan across drawing - 115,500K fit to window - 118,000K exit symbol - 128,000K fit to window - 130,000K zoom in - 136,000K edit symbol - 138,000K exit symbol - 148,000K fit to window - 172,000K zoom in - 175,000K fit to window - 178,000K edit symbol - 188,000K exit symbol - 184,000K pan across drawing - 188,000K zoom in - 189,000K fit to window - 192,000K leave for 5 minutes - down to 159,000K and stays there close drawing - CPU usage 100%, takes 5 minutes to close, then locks up VW (not responding) locks up MS Outlook (not responding) Closes down. Reboot - back to normal until I open VW again when the process starts again. Any help? COlin
  3. Have tried all recommendations, but no joy. I even put everything into separate classes and switched each off in turn (hatched walls, flat plan symbols, text, dimensions etc)but the same leaks occurred. Drawing file is only 4Mb in size, simple plans as symbols, with symbols within that symbol, but memory still leaking - so much so that even after VW is closed down (and it does so very slowly), the PC is almost locked up - reboot sorts it out for another short while. Colin
  4. Katie I have emailed Technical but had no response. I have checked all the machines in the office - some have 2.4GHz P4 processor and 512Mb memory, some 1.6GHz P4 processors and 256Mb memory - they all have the same problem. VW10 was not a problem with this, but did have a lot of runtime errors - since upgrading to V10.5, no runtime errors, but we do have this major slowing down of machines. Colin
  5. Katie It has all gone quiet on this problem. The problem is not going away, and is only since we upgraded to VW10 (having had VW since MCad5). We are having to close down our PC's every hour or so in order to keep working. Is there a solution to this? Colin
  6. My PC has the following: Pentium 4 1.9GHz processor 256Mb RAM Nvidea GeForce 2MX 64Mb graphics
  7. We have updated all the Windows Updates available, still no luck. The drawings are GA plans, with only plans in the file. We do have all the walls hatched - will this cause the problems?
  8. Katie All computers use Microsoft Outlook at the same time. It happens even if only VW and MS Outlook are running. Colin
  9. Katie I forgot - all computers also have WinFax Pro v110 ready to receive faxes, and Norton Antivirus running in background.we are also behind a FireWall, and all connected to a main server on a network. Colin
  10. using VW 10.5, on PC, Windows XP, after an hor or so of working in a drawing (and not too large a drawing), the whole system slows down and almost stops. It is the whole system, not just VW. When closing down, the close down takes 5 minutes or so, but when rebooted, all is fine for another hour. This is on all 6 PC's in the office, with varying processor speeds and graphics cards - it seems to make no difference. Any ideas?
  11. Katie I did that and found that it was a dimension. I could not delete it at all - crashed when I tried. The only way to resolve it was to turn off the dimension class, cut all other objects in the group and paste to a separate group, then to isolate the dimensions on a "damaged" layer. Resolved the problem, but it would be nice to know why a single dimension can corrupt. Colin
  12. I have a drawing which when I drag a group (floor plan with dimensions), I get a runtime error which causes major crashes on my computer. Other groups on the same drawings are fine (similar floor plans). I have tried to copy and paste onto a new blank drawing, which is fine until I copy and paste the one plan which when dragged to a new position causes the same runtime error. Any ideas (I could email the drawing file if you wish) I am using VW 9.5.1 on Pentium 4 computer, 1.9Ghz, 256 ram, windows XP. Colin Smart
  13. upgrading to VW 9.5.1 made no difference. It is just now and again that it happens, with no pattern to it: it could be the first print, the last or one in the middle of a small, or large run.
  14. Katie I have scanned images of the text if it would help, and if you let me know how I can post them on the site (or email) Colin Smart
  15. Katie It's a PC - Pentium 4, 1.9Gb, 256Ram, lots of disk space (about 2 months old) - good video card,Windows XP System fonts (the ones that come with Vectorworks) VW 9.5.1 being used (just downloaded patch the other day - problem spans v9.5 and v9.5.1) Problem never occurred with VW 8 or earlier versions of Minicad (we have had minicad since it first came out for PC) Colin
  16. When printing, drawings occasionally and sporadically come out with text blocks "bunched up" - the rest of the drawing is fine.We thought it was our old Calcomp Techjet printer and a memory problem, but we are having the same problem with our new HP Designjet 500PS, and new 1.9G computers.Any ideas what is causing this, and how it can be rectified? As I said, it is sporadic, and happens to no pattern - it can be a single print run, or one in the middle, start, or end of a larger run. Colin Smart
  17. I have VW 9.5 - people are referring to version 9.5.1 - where do I download the update, or is 9.5.1 the same as 9.5?
  18. It's the "position symbol in wall" dialogue box. I am using VW 9.5, Pentium IV, 1.9GHz, windows XP Professional, 256mB RAM, Colin
  19. thanks for the info - the "u" key works, but the return key on the keyboard does not confim move in dialogue box - I still have to use the mouse cursor to enter (no keyboard key works) Colin Smart
  20. We upgraded to v9.5, and seem to have lost some of the nice features which we found useful in v8.5, and wondered if they are lost forever, or whether they will be reintroduced, or whether we are doing something wrong, namely: you used to be able to toggle through the wall / polygon options (left, right, centre) by pressing the control key. when positioning symbol, or window in wall (dialogue box), you used to be able to press return on keyboard to OK, now you have to use the mouse over the button. Any help out there?
